In double speed, it looks like he's walking at normal pace. I wonder if they recorded the music video while syncing it to the song played at double speed in order to produce a "slow-mo" effect while slowed down to normal speed again?

correct,although they can make the song faster without affecting the pitch. not sure which method they used though.
