Am I right in saying that if I get a better Power supply it will be more stable? allowing the voltage to be incresed in the CPU that is, and im getting a new heat-sink soon so lower tempratures will also ahve an effect on how high i can clock it? :)
@rockeeben The power supply depends on what you currently have and what the CPU requires from the power supply. Increasing the voltage will also increase stability of the overclock to a point, again you can check the specific voltage capacity by googling the CPU and going to the Intel/AMD website.
Overclocking the CPU will generate more heat so any extra cooling you can get for it will be perfect. Sounds like you pretty much know what you're doing :)
Hi there, so tried changing the cpu clock ratio to 8x (6.66 default) and added 0.2 to the 1.4 cpu vcore(too much?). So after doing that, i couldnt access the bios and the windows its self, had to pull the motherboard's battery out and back in to make it work and well, what've i done wrong if i may ask?...
@kingofking532 The whole point of the video is to help. Did you even watch the video or follow any of the advice given? If you can be more specific with the help needed that would be useful so I can try and help you
@yoya1993zg You wont see a faster PC in general most likely. You'll get the extra performance in CPU intensive tasks. For general PC speed upgrading RAM and the hard disk your OS is installed on are the big things.
I've tried overclocking both my CPU and GPU and ran FurMark to test the temperatures and they were all fine. I tried restarting my computer and as soon as I logged on to my account my PC crashed. I tried going on the guest account and it worked like nothing had ever happened. I didn't overclock them too much so surely it shouldn't make a PC crash? Please help, I want to get even more performance out of my PC.
@BTVOTmurderdolls I had the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro installed when I made this video which was great but after taking it off and on a few times it no longer fitted so when I upgraded to an i7 I got the Corsair Hydro H60. Would definitely recommend replacing the stock fan if you plan on overclocking. Both of the coolers mentioned would be very suitable (as long as they fit your cpu)
@TheMineskiInfinity Atom is a notebook or netbook processor. You can't overclock laptops because their BIOS is locked to stop it overheating and damaging the laptop.
@paddymac81 No, sorry. I was using the Q9400 in this video, stock frequency is 2.66 GHz and I overclocked to 3.30 GHz. Do a search for Q9400 in google and you can see its stock frequency is 2.66 GHz.

@OneTimeProfile Hey, unfortunately laptop providers lock their BIOS down to stop you overclocking the CPU. This is because generally you can't provide enough cooling for it and it could damage the laptop. Sorry to be bring you bad news!
@Viper117x Yeah, that's sad. But I guess they are right because already like this it is so hot that it sometimes hurts my fingers ON THE KEYBOARD! Imagine that! Anyhow, thank you for your answer, it means a lot.
@Viper117x Before you get confused, I must say that OneTimeProfile is my third channel. robertdevald is my main channel, but I'm the same person, so don't get confused by the answers. Thanks again.
@DarknessGeass Hey, usually the save and exit button is F10 for settings in the BIOS but this may be different depending on the manufacturer of the motherboard.
You could also try doing a bios update. If you do a search for your motherboard make and BIOS update there should be some information about that. I think with my Gigabyte one I had to update the bios before it worked the first time.
@DarknessGeass You can also try overclocking in small steps to see if you are making too big of a jump in the clock settings, this can cause it to fail sometimes.
Also it might be worth changing a setting which isn't to do with the CPU, such as something to do with USB peripherals or boot priority, leaving everything else as default. This could determine if only overclocking is restricted on this version of the BIOS or all settings are.
Hope this is of some help and post back with any news!
@Viper117x They finally managed to save in BIOS but it doesn't show my new clocks when I right click my "Computer" , it just says 2.93 , 2.93 GHz again. There was a program for Intel CPUs I think that shows you the clocks and temperature but I can't exactly remember it. Could you remind me if you know of any ?
@DarknessGeass Great, well done :) The program to show the cpu clock is CPU-Z and the program for temperature is Realtemp. Both very good programs, free as well!
@Viper117x Thanks , I managed after a friend told me about it. However , despite my new clocks working , they sometimes drop to Multiplier 6 and 1700 MHz ... Any way to fix this ? Or did I make a mistake while OC-ing. I am trying to fix this for Battlefield 3 as the CPU is quite a bottleneck to my new graphics card
@DarknessGeass Is this when the computer is not very active? This could be one of the motherboard settings trying to save power and lower temperatures when the CPU isn't doing much. If you can monitor them during the game they will probably be at what you set them to. Try setting Battlefield 3 to windowed mode and keep CPU-Z open, or if you have a second monitor keep CPU-Z up on that one.
@Viper117x Yeah , I've tried that and it truly is lowering when my PC ain't active. Thanks for all the tips and advice ,they sure were helpful for a newbie at overclocking
i have amd phenom ii X2 550 3.1Ghz processor i jst had unlock my cores x2 to x4 but its not working properly after updating the x4 entirely system was hanging like idol within few minutes. @mikeiscoold You probably wouldn't frie your CPU. Most if not all motherboards will not boot if the cpu is clocked too high. If you have good enough cooling then go for it. You can use programs like RealTemp so see how hot your CPU is getting. And also some motherbords have an option to force shutdown if the temperature rises to much.
@mikeiscoold Do you have any options that says anything about the CPU, Clock settings, FSB, or anything advanced? Might be worth looking in there. Go through all the menus till you find something similar to my screen. It probably wont be identical layout but the method is still the same.

@Bas383 Great question. This really depends on the RAM that you have. If you have RAM that is designed to run at higher mhz this will be fine. What I'm wondering is that if I overclock it, does the maximum amount I can overclock it to depend on the cooler I have and how much clock speed I begin with?
Total90Football4 10 months ago
@Total90Football4 THe cooler and original clock speed does effect how much you can do with it.
If your CPU does get too hot most computers will shut down to prevent damage.
Also some CPUs will overclock better than others. If you have an unlocked CPU multiplier it would overclock very well.
The motherboard and the frequencies that you can use with it restricts it too. Also the voltage is a factor.
Also the voltage that you're able to use to support the overclock is another factor.

But I have 1 qeustion,
Your memory also overclocks when you OC the FSB right like from 333 to 413
Your memory went from 800mhz to 991 or something.
Is this dangerous or could it hurt your computer/RAM?

@Bas383 Great question. This really depends on the RAM that you have. If you have RAM that is designed to run at higher mhz this will be fine.
