All realtors are salesmen. Period. Their only incentive is to maximize their commissions. Why would a buyer's agent EVER try to talk the seller DOWN?
@etnin They show the buyer they are a good negotiator instead of trying to hustle the bigger dollar from one sale. A good buyers agent is looking for repeat business not the bigger commission check which could lead to failure for his/her career.
Any given market has price differentials of greater than 3% many much more. If you are working with an honest/local agent you will have good information to make the better choices. 3% is a small amount in the larger picture. Conversely a bad agent will just add another hand in the cookie jar. There is a service aspect to this equasion as well. Lastly the way listing agreements are generally written the listing agent is intitled to the full 6% if you buy a home without your own buyers agent.
My question is, Does redfin provide any added value in order to justify there 1% of the commission. Is redfin just the middleman in the transaction. A buyer is doing all of the work, and taking all of the risk in the transaction when he or she were to use a redfin agent. Why would a buyer even use a redfin agent if he can save himself the 1% commission. I think redfin is on a wall street venture capitalist funding shopping spree. They might probably go out of business like foxtons.
say what you want about real estate agents... we've been around for over a hundred years... if you think it's so easy, then become one... or follow me around for a day I'll show you how easy it is.
How many years of experience does the average REDFIN agent have? How many homes does the average REDFIN agent show a year? Their information schedule offers a choice of paying per showing! Who is going to pick that? Why can 2 similar size homes on the same street vary in price by $200,000? The experienced Realtors who actually SHOW homes and KNOW neighborhoods have the answers.
This day and age realtors do nothing more than unlock doors and tell you where to sign your name. They have not had to keep up with technology, most agents do not even know how to send an email. If you want to pay 6% on hundreds of thousands of dollars to retard/realestate agents go ahead. I will be saving money with someone that knows how to send an email and is not going to take thousands of dollars from me when I need it the most. Bye bye realestate retards, the scam is up.
Realtors are dumb.... trust me. When someone thinks "right clicking" a PC mouse is clicking the mouse with their right hand, ummmmm..... boy..... that falls under the retarded catagory.(like the mouse knows what hand you are clicking with, come on) Are there smart realtors out there, yes. Just not many. Take care and have a nice day realtor.
realtors are dumb, period, i know i was one... dumb brainwashed morons, in the DC area the MRIS website is called matrix, I chose the other pill... I hope Redfin and other companies destroy the NAR
Dalton's assumption is wrong. For instance, in the case of a realtor getting both sides of a transaction, the broker is incentivized to have the seller sell to his buyer no matter what the price. If lower works, so be it, as long as the agent can collect all 6.0% rather than just 3.0% if he sells to an outside buyer willing to pay more. So the broker will hide higher bids, or else lie to the seller-- telling him the buyer is "no good" (credit, stability, not serious about the bid, etc...)
Your assumptions are totally incorrect. First of all the sellers decides which offer they will take. It is illegal to hide any offer from a seller. What code of ethics do you follow. I would not buy any real estate from, or through you, if you think that is how the process works.
Exactly my point, I wouldn't buy or sell RE from some one that is incentivized by money to misdirect me.
I am not an agent-- obviously.
Felix, obviously you ARE an agent, or else you'd understand how the system works and accept it, instead of trying to convince the public these things are not true.
dalton is an ass, just like the majority of the money grubbing realtors his organization represents. The problem with the real estate industry is that the realtors drive up the price of houses, far beyond the worth, just to justify a genorous commission. Much respect to redfin for breaking into the industry and structuring a fee schedule that is more in tune with what a consumer should be paying.
What a bunch of nonsense. Realtors don't drive up housing prices a strong economy and low-rates does. If Realtors have the power, why are so many of them struggling as homes stay on the market and keep going down in value huh? Bribing a customer to buy doesn't serve homeowners. Any jerk can do that. Allan Dalton represents Realtor dot com NOT the NAR. The internet allows people like you to make uninformed opinions and without the least bit of respect!
What country or planet are you from? I suppose the realtors also drive prices down and that is why current market prices are dropping. Maybe you should go back to school and relearn the law of supply and demand.
Crazyjam you make personal attacks against Dalton but you have nothing to say about his argument which is totally correct. You are just reaffirming he is correct, which he is because Redfin can't promise a home buyer that they will save money buying their home compared to a transaction with a skilled agent that could potentially negotiate an even better savings then just having some commission handed back.
Dalton does come across as a jerk, but then again, how would you behave if industry was under threat because customers are cutting out the middle man?

Real Realtors make great money because they know how to properly represent their clients and effectively negotiate contracts. You're a f-ing jackass.
