So that's what I did and I observed as the first squirrel approached the spicy bird seeds. He ate a little. Paused, rubbed his face, ate a little more, rubbed his head on the ground and continued eating a little bit then left in hurry.
Victory!
...
The little sucker was back again for more within minutes!
The little dirtbag developed a taste for super spicy bird seed!
Squirrels are evil! I warn you! They are evil masterminds who will steal your soul!
Which leads researchers to believe that capsaicin is actually a defense mechanism against species who do not help spread the chile pepper seeds.
Meaning that if I put a coat of my home-made roasted scotch bonnet chile pepper powder on aforementioned bird seeds that the squirrels were stealing, the birds could continue eating them unharmed but the squirrels would be detered from eating them.
I was pretty intense into hot chiles and was reading books on them and everything and discovered that birds are immune to capsaicin which is the active component of chili peppers, that acts as an irritant for mammals only and produces a sensation of burning in any tissue with which it comes into contact.
You see the interesting thing is that mammals have the ability to digest the chile pepper seeds whereas birds do not. They poop the seeds.
There were some squirrels at the house I lived at before. They would eat too much bird seeds. The squirrels were more greedy than Larfleeze! So anyway, at the time I had a Scotch Bonnet tree which died in the move. I would roast the chiles and make a mind-expandingly hot powder.
SQUIRRELS WILL TAKE OVER.
BEWARE.
