@nostalgicimpromptu. Actually the song was a compilation between Alan & Marilyn Bergman and Dave Grusin. The Bergman's wrote the lyrics and Grusin wrote the music. Grusin wrote many tv theme songs most popular for the theme to the show St. Elsewhere.

I was at this premier at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood. On the outside looking in though. Everyone arrived in limos except Barbra Streisand who arrived in an older Mercedes. When Barbra got out she ran into the theatre like she was terrified. I was later told that is because she is terrified of crowds.

Dorothy is called TOOTSIE by Ron, the show's director, whom she despises totally. She immediately points out to him that everyone else has a name and that hers is D-O-R-O-T-H-Y. Dorothy then walks over to the funeral set to cool off after exploding.
