Edge plays terrible lead and rythem licks his playing is more like sound effects than any real song formation my idea of a good guitarist is not someone who plays the same palm muted open string over a delay and chorus efect for 4 minutes long...NOT GOOD SONG STRUCTURE.... I hate the fact people think that guitarists are good ecause they are in big bands.just like kirk cobain he did get famous but he still couldnt play a guitar yet he was number 12 on rolling stones list wasnt edge like 15? hmmm
The palm muted delay on songs like "bad" is used to create a wall of sound that encompasses the song, not to stand away from it. Any thing more than root notes, an alternating melody and ringing high notes would ruin the strung out atmosphere of the song. And it can be tricky playing with delay, screw ups repeat 4 times.
#24, I have to agree with you on the rolling stone list. As big of a fan as I'm, Edge should be in the 90's. EVH is #70 yet Jack White is #17, horrible list.

This is the live solo from the Elevation tour, but the bluesy part towards the end is from the Popmart tour.
The original version on The Joshua Tree has a slide solo instead.

The solo is based on an E minor pentatonic blues scale. You can find the tab for the solo if you check "About This Video".
