  • @galacticman123 You should have received an email, to activate your account, then you must link that account to your preorder, the instructions are all on the site if you look for them. After that you can enter the secret pre order forum in which the weekly alpha downloads are posted as topics.

  • For a game about bunny wabbits, it has probably one of the most realistic physics engines I have ever seen.

  • @waffle652 I think that's kind of a good idea. Skydivers straighten themself and fall vertically to be faster and extend themself and fall horizontally to be slower.

  • Infinitely better than reaching a certain area and BAM HUGE WINDOW OBSCURING FACE COMPLETE WITH JARRING PAUSE saying "HEY YOU PRESS A TO JUMP CUZ YOU NEED TO JUMP"

  • You should add a script that halts your acceleration during a fall after a certain speed is reached (IE terminal Velocity). Then, add a mechanic through which you can control your aerodynamics, so you can somewhat control your speed. So, If you want to fall faster, you can, but you'd sustain greater injury from shorter falls. Or slower, so you can take less damage from greater falls.

    THEN add a flying squirrel race that has it's OWN gameplay based on gliding! Muahahahahaha!

  • @HellsAngels0012 What I heard they take "ABOUT" 25%. They actually buy licenses to sell a certain amount of games, like 250 000 for a certain amount of money. That's why they can have sales like that.

  • I really think the way the arms of the character all instantly stiffly at the sides when jumping looks odd, there is no movement and they're just sticking straight down, they're like this for almost the entire job. I'm currently taking a 3d education and it really bothers me xD... Love the ragdoll physics though, can't believe you've done this all by yourself.

    Actually show this to my fellow students and they were quite imoressed

  • @iiscotty91ii Because multi million dollar mainstream companies put up deadlines the development team constantly have to fight against. Because of this the games aren't always as polished as they could be. :(

  • @naitsabes314 Also, million dollar mainstream companies don't really care about polishing their games this much, as it isn't necessarily needed for them to make money... which, unfortunately, is all they really care about.

    Indie developers on the other hand, doesn't make money just for the sake of profit (of course they too want profit, as they need to live), but rather because it's fun to be creative and create and polish your work, not to create something very good, but to challenge yourself!

  • @RPGAlien92 I wouldn´t say they don´t care about polishing, but they most of the time don´t have the time to! Most game productions have tight deadlines since Game development costs a shitload of money and the publishers (employers) expect the developers (employees) to get their stuff out in time since they (publishers) already made contracts with retailers etc. and have to deliver the game in time! Indies don't have these restrains that much so they are able to polish their games a lot more!

    That's bullshit. You would not say that if million dollar devs were realeasing videos like this every week. I can assure you that alot of work goes behind creating an AA title, way more work than Overgrowth.

  • @iiscotty91ii The reason why multi-million dollar companies can't make ragdolls look as good is the uncanny valley, most are trying to look "realistic" and when we see someone in game behave even slightly unnatural (such as being a ragdoll), it looks very wrong, weird or silly to us.

  • @TheDominitri I don't think that's what he ment. You see, even in some AAA projects, you can see ragdolls fall into textures before floating up again, twitch rapidly and do other weird things, which doesn't seem to be the case here.

Indie developers are focused in doing a great job and THEN earning money with it. multi million dollar companies always focus ONLY in the money that their brand alone will bring, so they toss shit on our plates and expect we to eat just because it has a famous logo printed on the box.

This causes them to approve things as "Good enough, ship it". Very few AAA games have good looking ragdolls upon death, which is most likely some body template they have in their gamedev kit. On the flipside of this, look how much the Wolfire team is taking their sweet time on adding so many features, there is no hard deadline.

  • @iiscotty91ii Their games cost millions to make, and they have to get as much money back as they can, or their company dies, all within a certain timeline. Indies have much more freedom, so they do what they want, when they want, without much consequence. It's not a simple matter of greed, like others suggest.

    They can do so much with so little resources, if they were part of something bigger the quality of games would skyrocket for that company.

    Or maybe they can open an institute or something. As a gamer myself, I declare that they should be revolutionizing the game industry right after overgrowth.

    BUT, ragdoll physics are old and laughable, saints row uses ragdolls still.

    GTA uses euphoria.

    If you don't know what euphoria is, you should really look it up.

    Although euphoria is better then ragdolls, even euphoria is out of date, Endorphin is better.
