This is Marguerite's Jewel Song from Faust and it sounds a lot better in the original French. But even as such, it's magnificent. She was young enough in 1949 to sound like Marguerite, innocent, young and in love. There's a bright bloom in her voice and that high note was amazing.
Although Renata is singing it in Italian instead of the original French (something her rival Maria Callas was able to do), it does sound gorgeous. It's bell-like, crystalline, charming. She sounds romantic and youthful. Very beautiful interpretation. Marguerite's character comes out in this aria. I love it.
Hmmm. Tebaldi totally lacks a trill. This is too painfully evident. Comes to show that it takes much more, so much more, than a mere beautiful voice to make things work.

Perfetta tenuta di fiati, legato inappuntabile, volumi decisamente siderali se paragonati a quelli emessi di norma dai soprani di coloratura.
Hai perfettamente ragione, spesso i soprani di coloratura, in favore dell'agilità dimeticano il volume e la pienezza del suono, Renata è stata grande anche nelle parti con coloratura come Marguerite, Violetta, Cleopatra e Leonora in "Trovatore"
il trillo iniziale si sentiva proprio tutto......ahiahiahi...la voce è quanto di più bello si sia mai sentito .....ma l'indifferenza e la solita e tribunizia linea interpretativa buona per tutti i personaggi e autori...in un imbarazzante indifferenza espressiva è l'altra faccia della medaglia di una delle voci piu belle di tutti i tempi
sul trillo iniziale posso convenire... anche se si dovrebbe dare una spiegazione... ma non è qui il momento... sul concetto di indifferenza espressiva, avrei telmente tanto da obiettare che mi occorrerebbe un trattato... qui c'è la differenza che intrercorre fra la bellezza di un quadro impressionista e la perfezione marmorea, levigata, assoluta, estatica della oietà di Michelangelo.

She was only 27 when she sang this, hence, the girlishness. She does sound wonderful, though.
