  • How does this give you an advantage? Like... I don't understand what you gain from doing this... if you run over a nail, your tire is still going to pop, and you won't even be able to take it off. Plus you would have to replace the tread, and those a a lot more expensive than tubes.... Not trying to be an ass here, I just don't understand... please explain why someone would want to do this?

  • the second i saw he was chinese i left

  • I've read many times to use motor oil or grease instead of soap and water to lube and seat the tire due to internal corrosion issues though this is all related to automotive tires so it may not apply here. I still suspect an oil or grease will seat it better. You could even use a cooking oil.....

  • so if i have a 20 inch rim i need a 18 inch tube

  • and after alllll that u catch a flat outdoors and ur fucked

  • what's the point of this system? is it actually lighter than a regular tube? do you have to use a tubeless tire?

  • @R1200cPhoenix If you are running rim brakes you need to cut it.

  • what if i dont put any sealant in?

  • @litomeanbear if there will be any puncture, the air will escape

  • In the time that it took do do all this, the dogs completed the singletrack loop, gulped back a beer, and had sex.

  • Thank you very much, great tutorial! I have two questions:

    1. Are all MTB tyres suitable for this method?

    2. Are puncture protection sealants suitable?

  • So for a "tubeless" setup you have to use a tube. Interesting. ha ha. Very good video. You explained everything very clearly.

  • Thanks so much, very usefull tutorial.

  • my stock rims have some sort of tape it fells like it woven nylon or some thing do i take it off and then seat the beed

  • do you recommend a high quality tube or can you use a light weight one that is very cheep

  • @R1200cPhoenix by leaving the extra hanging out would get in the way of the brakes on most bikes unless they have disc breaks.

  • TURN THE SOUND UP, DARTH VADER IS THE CAMERA GUY. LOLZ

  • I have a question:can i use the same way for NON tubeless tires with NON tubeless rims?Maxxis Minion DH Front Tyre - 3C Compound

  • Green slime seals it all.

  • do i need to to have kevlar tyre or i can make that with tyre with a wire?

  • What's the point of doing that why not just use a tube in your tire wouldnt it be so much easier? what's the purpose of it all is a tubeless tire better?

  • u layed it on the same die again

  • is some one sleeping i here noise .... i got question this is wired question but if my tubless got big hole can i patch them and put tube in it and use it? as normal

  • Does it work with a cheap tire and tube? or should it be a good quality tire/tube. Also i have a pinched tube can i use this one to get it gheto?

  • Hy. Great videos!

Just a question, it's necessary to change or add the sealant with regularity ?

    Thanks!

  • please tell me, what is this all good for? I just don t get it, no offense !

  • I love my tube tires. I can mount and dismount them by hand, with no levers, and can change a flat tube instead of patching a tire. I can patch the tube at home while watching youtube/netflix, and ride them another day. I can air them down as much as you can with yours. I don't see the advantage, but if it makes you happy, good riding and may the trail be clear.

  • If you are breaking plastic standard levers, you are doing it wrong! Use 1-3 plastic levers, close together, after sinking the tire opposite the levers down into the rim channel. Should be easy!

  • whats the whole point of this?

  • @brianszmitko I wonder that too. It's obviously not weightloss. I'd much rather just put a Mr Tuffy tyre (tire USA) liner in it.

  • @brianszmitko At least for Mtn bikes, the point is to be able to run with less air pressure. With tubes, the limit on how low you can go is that point where you get pinch flats -- no tube, no pinch flats.

Also, because of the sealant, small punctures just seal themselves, so much less likely that you will have to fix flats on the trail.

  • Bravo.

  • You are the man , thanks for The info

  • That's pretty good but that's a lot more work than just buying a tubeless rim. Nevertheless, thank you for sharing.

  • Good vid bro. Do you shake the tire, with the sealant (around 4:48 ) with the tire pressure still around 60 lbs?

  • Great Vid, LOL at Dog snoring at 2:00 mins

  • I wonder how you can do anything in that mess of a garage :P

  • ouch first thing... i wouldn't use a metal tire lever. Would you rather ruin an inexpensive tool or an expensive rim...

second- if its not a true tubeless UST rim + tire it WILL burp air when you hit rocks, stumps, roots, etc.

Use true tubeless equipment with Bontrager Super Juice

Super juice requires less juice than Stan's so it is lighter, and does not break down rubber like Stan's can.

    Good Luck

  • did u use a ust or non ust tyre?

  • @R1200cPhoenix

ive been able to reuse the liner over and over again for about 3 years now. cutting down the excess is to cut out the weight, and for aesthetics. i can imagine the excess tube hanging out getting caught on stuff too.

but if you want to leave the tube, by all means go for it.

  • Great video with easy to follow steps.

  • se a pegao un peoooo jajaja q inutilll jajajajxDDdxdXSJDFKSShahahahha pedo epdo depo

  • mooooooooooooooo!!!

  • Thanks Linga. One question, do you have troubles with the sealant blocking the valve so you can't get air in the tire? Thanks.

  • @Chandriko

never had trouble getting air through the valve. been using this system for 3 years now. still on original strips from the video.

  • @linga115 Do I just go to the hardware and ask for sealant? I'm not sure what that is. Can you give me some more specifics? Is it something directly related to bike tires?

  • Nice one Linga a good guide, i just got a kit before seeing your vid. But it's still good advice as it's the same technique. Many thanks from the UK.

  • & I thought I "knew it all" never thought off that - great vid!

  • congradulation, thanks for share you knowledge.

  • Excellent tutorial, have a question:

At the point in which you add the sealant, I can't get the tyre to inflate. Don't have access to a compressor, if I take it to garage they won't fit a presta valve.

Any tips and tricks or should I have tried seating the tyre before adding the rim?

    Cheers

    Mick

  • 5:08 = fart//lol

  • Can you still get flats from riding over glass and stuff?

  • do these only work once? What I mean is do you have to do it again after you change your tire?

  • Buen vídeo, lo intentare esta semana. Muchas gracias por publicarlo.

  • I might try this clever trick.

  • Buen trabajo, amigo.

  • good vid man. well done.

  • and whats the point of all that?

  • what kind of sealant is used, just any brand? does anyone know, or have tried, if this works on road wheels? does the sealant do any cosmetic damage to the rim?

great video, better than the other one I just watched.

  • @joerdm1991

i use stans no tubes sealant. there are tubless road wheelset / combos out in existence. however i have not tried using this method on any road combo what so ever. so i cant say how well it works for road wheels.

  • Very nice tutorial!

  • This is a excellent video on going tubeless for mounting bikes.

  • Very useful, now I will change my tyres. Thanks

  • thx bro, just realised that the vid is back dated in 2008, wish i had seen it earlier, im gonna try tubeless for the first time very soon!

  • will this still work for a bmx wheel???

  • @bike4life1515 it should but i have not tried it personally. so i cant comment too much on it

  • @bike4life1515 , My friend used this method on his BMX, It worked out fine.

  • Great vid, helped HEAPS

  • WOW! Great Vid bud. I am about to start trail riding so this will help out. Thanks! One question.. will slime green work or do i have to use the sealant you used? can they both be used?

  • slime makes a tubeless version of their product. i have no used their stuff before so i cant say if it will work or not. i dont see why it wouldnt work tho.

  • Step 5 goes wrong by me =(

    WHY?

  • excellent vid, Linga!

  • i assume the sealant continues to circulate when in use & seals any holes you may pick up while riding ? is there a maximum PSI ? i m running DMR moto RT tires @ 50psi. Also what are the main benefits of going tubeless ?

  • yes, the sealant does pick up any holes that you may get while riding. its great when in thorn country. the max psi should be on the tire. however the highest ive taken this system to was about 70psi. but when i ride i run about 25-30psi. for the advantages of tubeless see the description

  • Great vid, well explained I will try this out on my commuter then on my Trance if all goes well.

  • That was one fine demo - Congrats on the good work there - I first heard about ghetto tubeless at a bike show a few months back & think I'll try it. Your video answers about every question I may have had & showed me how to avoid some real annoying failures - Thanks!!

  • great video, and cute pups

  • Great vid, Im going to be attempting my first tubless setup on a new wheelset soon. Was torn between UST and regualr wheels, but I think I'll just use ghetto and standard wheelset :)

  • don't diss the mutt!

    good vid man. 5/5

  • thats was cool =)

  • I just wanted to say this is an awesome video, and a great help! I was getting frustrated at first because the tire wasn't inflating but i realized there was some pressure on the side of the tire (it was touching the floor) that was causing the bead not to seat properly, once i figured it out, it turned out awesome. Thanks!

  • Do I need a UST tire? The guy at the bike store today told me I needed a UST tire or it would not work. Is that true?

  • not true, any tire with any rim should work. some combo's are harder than others but will work if done properly

  • nice work

  • That's nice...but all that...I would rather use tubes...

  • Great viddy. I'm guessing you have to use new tube every time you change a tire, or can you fungle with the already cut one?

  • ive actually been able to reuse the rim strip while changing tires. many others have also had success reusing the strips.

  • can't you use a basic contact cement on the inside of the tube when you first install the tube so as to hold it in place for future tire changes?

  • Very helpful and well explained.

  • why didn't you put the sealant through the valve?

  • i didnt have the syringe at the time.

  • mnie się to udało zrobić na normalnej oponie drutowej kenda koyote 26x 1,95 z tym że trochę się namęczyłem zanim opona się uszczelniła z tą dętką i teraz trzyma dobrze powietrze

    felga z mavica xc 317

    dętka 24 kenda wentyl samochodowy

    opaska na obręcz schwable niebieska

  • can i use fix-a-flat sealant?

  • never had any experience with that type of sealant. so it would be hard for me to say. my guess would be as long as it seals the bead to the rim you should be alright.

  • I found it easier to cut away the excess tube with sharp scissors, then with a knife.

I have only used Scwhalbe tyres, but 2 have blown of the rims at just below the maximum recommended 40psi. So i suggest to not go over 35psi on Scwalbes.

  • @Axabraxa hello Ax; i ride two schwalbe 26" 2.35; it's the super moto and is based on the big apple tire. the recommend pressure on mine is 90 lb! with the min. 40lb. all schwalbe's are not created equal are they? on my tire it's written in "bars" 6 i think max. did i seriously goof on my bar to psi conversion?

just looking for some input; ping me on this when u can and thanks.

  • @KingdomUploader

It was the old version of BigBetty that blew off. Don't know about other Swalbes. 90lb sounds alot for a 2,35! U better check that.

You can find several good Bar to Psi convertors on the web..

  • @Axabraxa Hey, thanks for the feedback; i appreciate you for that. since i wasn't quite sure i started with 60psi so maybe i'll be okay but i'm about to find the conversion chart that u mentioned as well as contact a schwalbe dealer. what i hear is that the min. psi on these balloon tires are for shock absorption but then i started worrying about flats so bumped it up.

live long and prosper even as your soul prospers

  • great video. do you work at a bike shop or just alot of trial and error?

  • ive applied to almost every bike shop in my college city (davis) and got rejected by every single one. i just do trial and error

  • i use stans sealant.

i buy it off jensons. but a google search would tell you where it is the cheapest for you. check your LBS they might cut you a deal on it as well.

  • If you look up patent number 7,055,569 on the USPTO US patent website you will find the ingredients for stan's notube sealant. Making it before the patent expires is a civil tort.

  • u farted on 5:09

  • its the creak of the tripod we were using to film this

  • thats a lot of work - im stickin to tubes

  • Ghetto Spooge

1.5 part mold builder (liquid latex)

1 part Slime (the type for car tires)

    2 part water

1 part cheep antifreeze w/Ethelyn Glycol

and some glitter to clog bigger holes.

Careful inflating over 40psi on my setup. The tire violently blew off the rim while in my hands. I also had air leaking from around the stem. The tube was cut w/tire lever and allowed air to pass through. Why tubeless? Lower pressure = Lower rolling resistance and better traction.

  • to Quarterpanel - lower pressure does not equal lower rolling resistance however it does mean better traction as you stated

  • Thanks! I'm going try it. Excellent job at making this video

  • Shaking or riding I guess is the same. Important thing is dont ride too much stairs on the first day. The last time I used Highrollers with ghetto and no flats for 1 year. I tell you I used a lot of ghetto in my life and messed up a lot and learned about. Sometimes it ts frustrating though.

  • the bead surely locks in place once you bang the maximum pressure in the tire. Okay, I lost the air today after setting up the tire I rode a lot o stairs up and down until no air was left. Should have waited a day until the sealant gets thicker.

  • this is exactly the reason you need to do the leak test and the shake down method. riding the tires, rolling it, spinning it. that will not get the side walls sealed. its the shake down and laying it on the side thats gonna get the tire sealed properly. i highly suggest using the soap and leak test as well. that way you can target the area thats leaking and seal it with the sealant. not to be a dick or anything, but was wondering how well and how long your method would hold up.

  • I dont use soap, instead I clean the tube with alcohol. I dont do the leak-finding procedure as well, just put in maximum pressure, shake a little bit, and ride some stairs. Its easier to put in the sealant via the valve. Kevlar tires no good they burp too much on rocky DH. Maxxis is very good,Nokian is good but now I tried to mount Geax, the tire is out of shape and very difficult to get airtight :-/

  • the purpose of the soap is to get the bead to lock in place so you can have a better seal. but whatever works for you man.

  • Robota pre zebraka

  • The first time I went toobless I popped it on a brick! And i'm hearing people that hadn't had a flat for 4 years. But THEY ARE AWESOME!

  • I love your dog

  • nice job, I had no idea what this was before watching. Learned something new.

  • Very good and thurogh video. Have you tried it with 2 ply rims? At least for my wheel the tires are unusually and painfully tight on the rim (no joke) and I'm afraid I won't be able to mount the tire without the small tube staying on the outside and between the rim and tire?

  • great, just finished my first tire !!! going for the rear one now !

    Thanks dude

  • I dont ride.. but i love ur dedication...

  • after you cut the air chamber! Doest you take the excess of rubber to fit well, wit onl ruber inside the rim .. ??

  • sorry but i have no idea what you are trying to ask me.

  • Ya, I would think that trimming the rubber would allow it to pull back into the rim and break the seal between the tube and the tire.

You'd have to redo a new tube anytime you took the tire off or it went flat I'd imagine.

    Awesome cheap trick though.

  • Will any standard tire work or will I need a Tubeless tire?

  • you can use any tire with any rim. does not have to be ust rim or ust tire. my current set up has a non ust tire with a non ust rim. no problems. the purpose of the first inflate test is to see if it inflates and seats in the rim. if it does then it will work. that way you dont waste any sealant if it does not work.

  • dangerous dont use tubeless tires. the kevlar tires may explode with the crash on a rock.

  • The kevlar has nothing to do with the tire. The kevlar is the bead, which will likely never break unless you run over something sharp and get it through the tire and against the rim.

I've never heard of a tubeless doing anything worse than a tubed one. They're much more reliable.

I've raced tubeless for 4 years now, and never flatted at a race or training.

  • Hey, thanks for the great video! Have you had any luck with cyclocross tires? I only know one person whose tried it, and he said his tire was burping air at really low pressures. Thanks again!

  • i havent tried this for CX tires. mainly because i dont ride cx.

burping tires is usually due to running to low of pressure for your weight. im a light person (135lbs) and i can get away with as little as 23 psi

  • Thanks for the video. Interesting, but I think I'm too lazy to go through extra hassle to mount a tire. I'd like to be able to change tires or fix flats easily. I've never run tubeless though so maybe I don't know what I'm missing... I don't get pinch flats though.

  • less weight on the outer most part of your tire = less rolling resistance.

lower pressure in tire = better traction and a smoother ride

running sealant in tire = protection against puncture flats.

the whole process only takes like 10-20 minutes per tire once you get rolling. ive done both tires are the same time and i was done in 30 minutes

  • Tubeless = never flat again. Unless you get super light ones. Accept a little extra weight and then just trash through rock gardens with no worry.

  • Shoot I don't have a mascot!

  • The "LE-vurrr" ha ha ha.

    Yankees. :=P

  • what is that sealt stuff? is that like slime, or is it like a glue? anyway good video

  • dont wanna do a product placement here. but in the video i used stans tubeless tire sealant. you can get it at almost any bike shop. i bought mine off jenson usa.

it is like slime but a hell of a lot better. people have used slime while doing this and it still leaked air pressure.

  • can you do this with road tyres

  • yes, i havent done it myself. but i do know that there are people out there who have done tubeless with road tires. im not too sure how well the ghetto method would hold up to road tire pressures tho. should be fine

  • I wouldn't try it. Road tires are 100psi, and you're risking a major blowout as the bead is smaller on road.

  • yea, I read an article that says road tires have to be special for that

  • I just don't get it ?, I have put Slime in my tyres which only costs £3.99 whats the point in all that hastle ?, is it meant to be better ?

  • Tubeless allows you to run a lot lower pressures that your tube would pinch flat at. slime in a tube will prevent punctures good but doesn't really work with pinch flats to well

  • Just finished my first attempt. I have some leaks around the valve stem, but the sealant seems to be doing the trick.

Thanks for the tutorial!! Hopefully it will seal up just fine.

  • i had the same problem. you just gotta try to manuver the sealant into the hole so it can sit and plug it up.

  • Dontuse tyre lrvers to get you tyre on as it will damage your rim. Try and get as much on with your hands.

  • Same deal I did. But to be truly ghetto, we gotta use something cheaper than Stan's($22), such as some liquid latex ($5). I saw it almost immediately after I finished my set-up (in DirtRag, maybe?).....of course, I can't find it now.
