  • bugger....clearly i guessed wrong

  • Part 2/2 furthermore, without her, that would be one less man in the fight. Atleast the Spartans got it right by respecting the mothers of warriors, some how I guess we fell short from history, seems like everyday we lose a little more sanity and gain more stupidity. Regardless, if she voted for Obama or McCain we still would have been in Iraq and transition into Afghan (not to mention they only win by electoral vote, who is to say she voted for a 3rd party)

  • Jesus guys, Come on! her son got back from Iraq and she is expressing her deepest emotions to the world about how excited she is for him coming home; Why can she not enjoy that instead of having to deal with you guys making rude comments about a video she made. Besides, her son is fighting for freedom and so am I so she can do this video for her son's home coming and doubly be able to express her opinions on the war. Have some heart, maturity and respect for a mother of a soldier. part 1/2

  • Poetivity..I have always wondered if your son made it back home safe. I remember watching your poem on your channel and feeling the pain you felt in having your son there.I cant even imagine the pain he felt. He is a good man and I salute him. God did take care of him as well as his people..I hope that someday soon they all can come back.Take care .I am breathing a sigh of relief. and he came back over a year ago.

  • I know this is late but YAY that your son is home :)

  • You bet I'll be reading some more of Bukowski. Thanks for this very real yet nicely artful video. And (belated) congratulations on this happy moment.

  • Everyone should read more Bukowski!! The book I bought is a watered down version of his poetry, many pieces are missing some of the starkest and most crucial lines..as I discovered when I watched Bono read "The Crush (2)" Bono's version of it had some absolutely brilliant lines that the version I read had, for some ungodly reason, edited out.

    So yes!! MORE BUKOWSKI.

I firmly believe that I could forgive anyone anything if they sent me the apology with a book of Bukowski.

  • Oh, I'm sorry, I didnt realize President Bush FORCED your son to join the military. My sympathies to you and your son!

Shame on the president of the USA for forcing your son of all people to do such a thing.

    Shame, shame, shame on him!

I cant believe our president would expect the US military to fight for and defend the USA! What was that man thinking?!

  • We are not defending the USA in Iraq...we are, in fact, creating a dangerous and unstable world for US citizens.

Wake up and smell the reality...

and a soldier will do whatever he is ordered...part of being a soldier...that being the case..it's the job of the guys in charge to make sure they never order anything immoral....such as the war in Iraq.

  • @Poetivity So your doing this just for US Citizens, Huh, So your attitude says stuff your allies. So you don't give a shit about the British, Canadian armed forces and all our allied troops.

  • Paul, You are obviously angry. I don't know what to say. I hated the war, never wanted my son there...and don't want anyone else's son there either.

  • @Poetivity you just dont get it do you. You say your creating a dangerous and unstable world for US citizens. WHAT ABOUT YOUR ALLIES, BRITAIN, CANADA,, since all this shit started I cant even use my camera in London without muppet cops wanting to now why I am taking photos. The point of my comment was, YOU GUYS THINK THIS SHIT WAR IS ALL ABOUT THE US, and stuff the Brits, Canadians and all our Allies. This is not all about just Uncle Sam

  • I hope he didnt kill anyone over there LOL!

What would you do as his mother if he did?

Go on youtube and tell the world how he murdered people for oil?

  • My son is over there just because of an idiot president. He is doing the job he has been assigned and is doing a fine job of it. Just because I do not support his conflict, does not mean that I do not support my son.

There are lots of other people on YouTube...go find them...some of the fine posters from deep conservative Bush-loving South may agree with your point of view...go find them.

  • Poetivity,

You say you support Obama, but you're not aware that his homepage says "Expand Military Power by adding 60,000 Soldiers and 20,000 Marines"..... you weren't aware that Obama and the Mainstream Congress have no moral conflict with starting a fight with Iran (psst....now we want their natural gas, we got Iraq's Oil.....). Honestly, did you know that about Obama?

  • BTW, I am happy to hear your son made it home...

  • I'm touched....I really am. I'm SO glad I found your channel. I was thinking, "What is normal?" And then I found your video on that. I saw A LOT of response vids and your the ONLY one who gave an answer. Thank you. To function is GOOD normal. Your soft and gentle words and spirit remind me of my mom who passed untimely. My name is James also and hope ONLY the best for you and your loved ones.

  • Welcome James.

  • Over the past three years, I have played some role in training hundreds of men and women on their way to the war. I always wonder whether, after they clear my lane, whether I have passed on anything that will help them come home safely. I dread those little thumbnail photos in the newspaper.

I'm glad to hear that, for you at least, there was a safe return.

Do bear in mind that there will be wounds great or small that don't always show up. Be there for him. It makes a difference.

  • he's got some hideous experiences. So far he's very open about sharing them...I'm very worried about him...I hope he finds a way to deal with it all.

  • Having someone with some insight, who will not judge him harshly, and who will warn him gently of signs that he needs help is, in itself, helpful. Your idea of doing volunteer work at VA is a good idea, too.

If it gets heavy, just call it a learning experience. You're a writer. Your place in the grand scheme of things is to look at what the rest of society have not looked at or grasped.

  • I sent my son to Iraq and nothing happened.

    What an idea.

    Love to you both.

  • It's not to say nothing happened...a great deal happened....but he lived through it all...and that is a very good thing.

  • i'm glad for your son's safe return. it's good to find joy in the face of this war. also, thanks for the poem and introduction to bukowski. i agree, it was pretty much perfect. i'm sure you have a much better sense of the fit. i found your postings on youtube a couple of months ago after being introduced to raymond carver in a class one day, and i was searching for more of his work. now i can add a new poet to my inventory. thank you again. i hope your welcome home is pretty much perfect too.

  • Thank you. We are very happy he's home.

So many poets!! I hope you fall in love with them all....as I have.

    Thanks for subscribing.

  • hey miss kim, i am so happy for you. i am glad he's home. yay!!! i am so glad he got home safe and i bet you two are going to spend some sweet time together. yay mama!! take care. ((hugs)) ciao for now.

    *tori*

  • Hi Tori,

Thanks for the good wishes. hope you are doing well also.

    Take care.

  • thanks NWM. It's good to have him home.

  • great news! keep praying for the rest of them out there!

  • always.

  • that is great to hear-hes home safe.

    nice poem!

  • Thanks Benzone...it was an emotiplosion seeing him...

  • I'm delighted for you! May the war end soon and everyone else come home.

  • Largo...I'm with you on this....my son is scheduled to go to Afghanistan in February...I hope everything ends and he stays safe.

  • I have mixed emotions about this. I think of how wonderful you must feel yet I think of the tragedy that some of the other mothers are feeling right now. Your son won this first deployment and if luck is with him he'll win the next race as well. If I had my way they all would be back tomorrow on as many airbuses that the world could spare.

  • I think of those mothers too pongman. I have vowed that should my son return home safely from his next tour...I will spend an hour a week volunteering at a veteran's hospital helping the injured soldiers with whatever they may need...I can't do it now...I'm still in the suspension of it could be my son...far too painful to see those kids just yet.

  • Wonderful news, Kim. I celebrate with you and your family, and wish your son the very best. Excellent choice with the Bukowski piece.

  • It's good he's here safe. One more tour...one more tour...

  • I'm very happy for you and your son. :)

  • Thank you.

  • I'm so happy for you that your son made it back! I love your choice for a poem... have a great weekend!

  • Fell open to that page...but Bukowski is so beautiful...any page would have worked.
