There was a lot of debate about that in the beginning. I hold firm that pistol switching is allowed because it adds another dimension to the game. It takes more skill to weapon switch between shots than to just let the weapon reload. Similar things like this have occurred in the past such as Smash Bro's Melee (power sliding). What happened because of the power slide? Tournaments, players with higher twitch abilities, and a sequel. Sometimes it's things like these that make a game great.
