  • They are from my town, classic song.

  • seriously a magical song. just reminds me of happy times.

  • Why are people always talking about other bands that the ones you are listen to right now?!

Some bands are better than the other. But none of them sucks! cmon. some people listen to that. Maybe some people like bands you totally hate!! So what?! That person enjoys it! Just shut up and talk about The Verve. Cuz this is a song by The Verve.. and no other great band

  • @HapOntbijtkoek

i salute you, finally someone normal!

  • @HapOntbijtkoek This should be a top comment! Thanks for the words. And visit my channel if you want, it could be a pleasure for both = )

  • urban hymns is my favorite cd of all time, like it more than morning glory even, and I'm a bigger Oasis fan than the Verve

  • how can you not feel the hook pulling you into the emotions of this song? one person in love, the other not. what angst! i love this song so much. it's not my very favorite verve song but recently it is my now favorite. when i wear out on this song and catching the butterfly i'll go back to the a storm in heaven album!

  • i fucking love this album

  • carewear installing...please wait.....

  • Brings back memories!! I listened to this album over and over again at one point! I have to listen to it again! Thanks!

  • Richard is a genius. His music moves me in so many different ways. :3

  • @Canadian789119 Noel Gallagher himself was a big fan of Richard Ashcroft!

  • @lyonslaforet And Noel is a Genius as well. haha. Of course he is a fan He wrote "cast no shadow" dedicated to the man :D

  • i meet richard ashcroft on a flight to majorca back in in 2002, apart from having my son the best day of my life

  • For me no doubt about this one , it's just their best song.

  • This brings back some AMAZING memories for me-I went to see The Verve headline Slane Castle in 1997, when I was only 15!!! That weekend was amazing... Richard Ashcroft is one of the most gifted musicians alive-EVER! He's a brillaint song writer, and his voice is truly unique & stunning! Im gonna dig my old Verve CD's out, and have a listen tonight-Along with a lot of booze lol-Now that it's legal :P

  • Great song!!!!!!!

  • 35 years old, gonna be late tomoro, had to listen ti this and remind me of this album.....hope u youngsters like it too: 0)

  • More people need to open their ears and minds to The Verve and the genius that is Richard Ashcroft! One of the best songwriters ever. Definetly in my lifetime anyway.

  • awesome

  • How this song didn't make it on to their "greatest hits" or whatever you wanna call it album I will never know, it's a great tune!!

  • thumbs up if you love all music for what it is and you love the verve.... peace bros

  • good taste!!!! =)

  • @Uzzie101 Oh my god you did not just say that.

  • Always back to this song.

  • music has suffered because artists and record companies have become all about a dollar and it has sucked away all of the creative talent and uniqueness that once created great music the verve will always be one of the greatest bands of all time and I dont care if they are not on anyones great list they are on my great list

  • wonderful

  • Chulada''

  • amazing, just fucking amazing..

  • una de mis canciones favoritas de toda la vida.

  • oasis and the verve are different bands. whats the point in comparing them? anyway love this song

  • Had to smoke a bowl to this. Thanks for posting.

  • Best track on the album!

  • THESE GUYS ARE BETTER THAN DYLAN

  • @buzzardsbay30 hahaha LOL

  • @buzzardsbay30 sorry mate i have to disagree there, The Verve were a great band and Ashcroft is a superb talent (i think he's one of the best vocalists of all time) but they do not touch Dylan, Dylan is the god of all things music

  • this is the biz. Standard!!!

  • Oasis wass fucking brilliant but urban hymns is no less than what's the story morning glory or definitely maybe...

  • @ntshgpt92 shut up u goon no album in the nineties came close 2 definitley maybe it defined the music scene in the nineties an gave indie music a whole new direction

  • @ryanvenny80 Sorry mate but definately maybe was practically written by the real people. Chris griff even has a songwriting credit on rockin chair. along with a few other bits of columbia and supersonic. Oasis just ripped them off completely, just like they do with all their music and the realies threatened court action. The verve were far more unique and live are completely untouchable. The better band by far. A Northern soul is just legendary.

  • Fuck what these Oasis people say. I was a mad Oasis fan in the day but have despised them since standing on the shoulders.

I have never enjoyed the music of Ashcroft and co. as much as I have now and it hasn't really dated at all. Next tour dates TBA? Missed them at T in the Park a wee while back due to intoxicated circumstances.

    OOOOOps

  • CHILLS AT 3:07

  • Verve and oasis are comparable just for hair style.

    Verve rocks!!!!

  • @220massimo both are positive rock bands with bad ass music, there's no need to compare anything, it only causes argument and internet keyboard gangsters to emerge from their bunkers

  • 8 people can't hear a shit.

  • one of the best albums you could have in your collection , sounds crisp 2011 as it did back in the day, oasis in the same catergory, lets all get real and stop judgeing who is the best, MUSIC IS IN OUR EARS LETS ENJOY ! regards Vic 47 on sunday. wavey fingers

  • BEST ALBUM ! PROPER MUSIC . VIC 47 ON SUNDAY !

  • They are just a brilliant band!:)

I`ve listen bittersweet symphony since i was 2!:)

  • The Verve was more of a artsy band compared with Oasis. I've listened to both, although Oasis had more hits, the Verve came up with more creative songs. It's too bad "Bittersweet Symphony" is considered a one hit wonder in the U.S. because ti takes away from the originallity of the rest of the songs on Urban Hymns.

  • @todmills nah man, Oasis was more creative, just listen to songs such as born on a different cloud.

  • einer meiner Lieblings-Alben aller Zeiten-wohl der beste Song

  • I am sorry guys, don't want to compare them or whatever, just would like to say I was into both in same time (more than 10 yrs ago..) .just one thing which links them is they have good singers who lead through song and colourfull music

  • one of the top 10 albums of the 90's

  • @keykoo123 It's in my top 5 albums of all time!

  • My favourite tune off Urban Hymns

  • I had forgotten this one. So brilliant. Please: just don´t mention Oasis the same day, they had the attitude, ok, but talent, really...

  • I had forgotten this one. Just don´t mention Oasis the same day. Attitude: yes.

    Talent : well...

  • I love this album! I wanna relive my 90s years!

  • Oasis are fucking brill but nothing compares to the lryical beauty that is the Verve

  • There is no space and time....

  • this is just one of those songs were you turn the volume up as soon as you hear it

  • i dont want to get caught up in a bullshit arguement but fuck sake, oasis who?

  • They should have released this as a single instead of Lucky Man - I think this would have been a much bigger hit.

  • @picklerwoof I doubt it

  • I don't.

It pisses all over Lucky Man.

  • @picklerwoof Yea I respect your opinion but I just believe that Lucky man is a more commercial, "single-like" song therefore resulting in it being more succesful

  • RICHARD ASHCROFT TE AMO!!!

a pesar de ser bien varón, la verdad es que cada cancion de este TU album es todo un viaje. gracias.

  • verve CRUSHES oasis .....sorry puffer

  • are u kidding---kills oasis-----best song ive ever heard .....

  • why does everyone compare oasis to the verve. their both two great musicial talents.

  • how can u dislike this? 7 tossers

  • Energy sources without the need for fuel or energy input exist ,But the Oil companies want these technologies unknown to the masses,Check this free energy magnet motor at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM ,Free yourself!

  • One of the best albums ever made each track on the album is strong.

  • I'm not sure why there all these comparisons to Oasis. The Verve is infinitely better than Oasis.

  • @Ptrgamb YES!

  • This song hits me 4 some reason. It makes me think of the times I was in a dark place but never gave up and here I am.... back to the person I always been. Always keep ur head up cuz the flame is always there it never dies out.. the drive 4 life

  • @Ha7oc Nice comment

  • @LordRassy :)

  • Wow this song is incredible

  • this man is a poet

  • When i first heard this tune , I was drawn straight into it like a film, and i thought he would release it straight away tells a story, classic, and so addictive to play on guitar, has england got any talent left like they once had man, when you hear richards voice sing and soar on this record, i doubt that the teenagers that lived through the 90's lol me and many others will ever hear anything like this again...but it might happen...lol.lol. i doubt it, richards talent just flows without trying

  • @stevenlennon1979 "...doubt that the teenagers that lived through the 90's lol me and many others will ever hear anything like this again...but it might happen..." (Sadly it will never happen again. If you want great music, you have to go back in time. Roots is where it's at, not these new seedling bands)

  • that's right turborapist2

  • i just love all the songs from this cd ...best of lucks for the band and i m sending all my love for u..from Brasil Babi

  • better than oasis and coldplay!

  • This is actually my favourite track off Urban Hymns.

  • Wanted to put a comment but realized im on my mums account, although im quite liking the fact that i can make it look like mary was rocking to the verve I JUST CANT MAKE IT ALOOONE ha

  • PLEASE TELL ME THE MEANIG TO THIS SONG, PLEASE RESPOND

  • 2% of the people dont have bRainto the music ¬¬

  • so beautiful....

  • wouldnt say it was better than oasis but defo a good tune xx

  • this album is just epic... i can't even name a song in it that I don't like...

  • you make me happy!

  • son mejores que oasis aguante the verve qu evengan a ARGENTINA

  • reminds me of driving in the middle of pennsylvania. I wonder why.

  • Fab!!

  • great band

  • Why do people have to compare them to Oasis? Both, the Verve and Oasis, made brilliant music.

  • @Mue7 If you were running to president of anything you would have my vote.

  • @Catpotato Thank you very much :D

  • @Mue7 i like the verve the most, oasis is iight, but the verve couldn't stay together. oasis fault a lot but they got through it, i think that why they are compared all the time

  • @Mue7 I don't get it too, Ashcrofts lyrics are class Noels lyrics were never his strongest point. Plus Nick Mccabe on guitar just bought something different to the Verve no other band had.

  • The Verve were so underated until they split up. Although they reformed, it's not the same but Ashcroft's legend will live on.

Listen to the reverb on the bit when he sings 'aint got no lullaby'

    Sheer brilliance

  • I took the 90's off. Im now now 46 yrs old and these guys rock. The talent has come along ways since the 70's and 80's. I would even go so far as to say the year 2000 to 2010 havent produced this level of talent. And im just a dumb american.

  • @MissyMicole23 you may be a dumb american but you are down right... with a few good exceptions, good music stopped being done in 1999

  • @MissyMicole23 : a dump Moroccan here XD

i'm not sure .. i had that idea too but i think there is always some smart guys somewhere to produce some good stuff.

  • @MissyMicole23 I'd say Muse comes pretty close

  • @MissyMicole23 Talent in the 60's and 70's soared, and then in the 90's music got a quick breath of talent once again before plummeting. Now music is just about social images, and what looks cool. As a 16 year old, I can tell you the majority of the music from my generation SUCKS. This here is from a time when music meant something deeper. I'd say music hasn't came a long way from the 60's-90's, and instead it's fallen.

  • @P47ThunderboltJug Shut up you boring little cunt. You expect good music to fall into your lap from the mainstream well guess what the NEVER happened. There's 1000s of amazing bands out there, Mumford and Sons, Fleet Foxes, I Am Kloot, Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Muse,TV on the Radio and countless others like them are making some of the most breathtakingly unique music, and if you want to give the older gens. the middle finger trying listening to deadmau5 (cos dubstep is the new punk) now GTFO

  • @Uzzie101 Agreed, there's still good music in the 21st Century, like the bands you've just listed.

  • @JeffS904 thanks! I'm sick of these people who always whine about being born at the wrong time -_-

  • @Uzzie101 Deadmau5 very rarely does dubstep anything. More of progressive/house/electro. But otherwise spot on.

  • @P47ThunderboltJug perhaps it has fallen in musical substance and i wont deny that earlier generations of music were more badass than many of the stuf out htere today. but if ur willing to generalize ENTIRE bands and genres of music from todays time as bad then i take u as a bit ignorant. i beleive theyr will always be ppl that know good music and that can therefore MAKE good music regardless of time period.

  • @P47ThunderboltJug It's all a matter of perspective I think. The reason music from past generations seems SO amazingly awesome is because we only remember the amazingly awesome artists. Music in the 70s was just as image-centered and shallow as it is now, music has been a major industry for a looong time. But we don't think of those bands when we think of the 70s, we think of Zeppelin and Floyd. Good music is still out there, I promise you! You just have to find it :)

  • @P47ThunderboltJug Or wait a few decades until all we remember are the awesome bands from the present and we forget about the nonsense.

  • @P47ThunderboltJug have you discovered Radiohead yet?

  • @P47ThunderboltJug i agree with you up until about 2 to 3 years ago i think music has gotten that breath again we have bands that are getting really popular like Tame Impala and Edward Sharpe, and then some less well known stuff like The growlers and The Soundcarriers that are so incredible. And thats just to name a few. I think it goes up and down like a wave and right now i think were peaking again, look into some of the new psychedelic underground music that is coming up now it really is good

  • @P47ThunderboltJug I think people want to hear authentic music that they can somehow identify with. This album is a great example of that. There are stacks of bands that fall into this category as well. Maybe not the same caliber as the Verve, but still great music. Dont stop searching brother.

  • @P47ThunderboltJug i disagree, i am a musician and im not like that... and there are many

  • WRONG AGAIN! Mainstream is society's bitch. You and so many others say stupid comments like this because you need to digg deeper, and not just base your opinion off Propaganda's box. I'd say you should try broadening what you know. There are so many underrated artists today that are not being advertised by "Ellen" or "x factor". If anything learn another language, this will open windows to understanding as well.

I am 20 and can easily make a list of talented souls right now.

  • @soulrunswild I don't care how old you are. Your'e the one who needs to quit basing your opinions off propaganda.

  • @P47ThunderboltJug Huh, being a music critic for years I have to both agree and disagree to your statement. I agree when it comes to your personal "flow", but I disagree when it comes to "social images & what looks cool" : It's all about what people relate to more and for many shit like Flo Rida is the real deal and reflects all their desires as for many bands like these do - it's all about the inside of a listener... :D

  • @MissyMicole23 I heartily agree with you in that this last decade has in no way produced this level of talent. In fact I would go as far to say that this last decade has been utter shit, in terms of producing great music talent.

  • es una extraordinaria rola de los verve, cheers from mexico.

  • i just can make it alone .................yeah everybody must it great song

  • The Verve > Oasis

  • why cant there be more amazing songs like this in the world?

  • He sounds like Bono!

  • @Wlodar10 Bono wishes he could sound as sincere as Richard Ashcroft!

  • @Theoneandonlykop that's just a stupid thing to say.

  • epic.... the verve at their best.....

  • Anything is possible if you want it bad enough.

  • nice song muy chevre

  • Better than 34 comments is the 74,000 spins. Class music like this speaks for itself!

  • Great track. Great album!!

  • my mate made that pic! ha ha

  • actually LOVE this

  • @ squick lol,, dude sing my own shit all the time with verve,,,but what a song,

  • The Verve go The Byrds - Improved a brilliant moment, the whole LP is a timeless effort!

  • I saw them in Chicago on the Urban Hymns tour-lucky me-only a few dates. Nick was not there due to "exhaustion" so I was freaking the show wouldn't be the same. Out comes Richard with a Gibson ES 335 and proceeds to blow my head off by playing every part note for note and perfect vocals. Best show ever to this day. My all time favorite album.. They transcend normal human capacity for creating music. Today's Mozart(s)

  • @JethroSpeedo Lucky man well said man bless

  • Before this album came out I only knew of Richard's dedication on Cast No Shadow, and when this album came out and I began to research more into Richard, I thought "wow, he is an amazingly talented artist". He's a hero to me, because he expressed all those emotions and feelings I was going through when I couldn't find the right words, that album and much of their early stuff was the soundtrack to my college years.

  • "We have existence and it's all we share" the absolute best line in the song, and one I've quoted many times.

  • They dont come much better than Richard

  • 0:58 ! That beautiful! "

Oh, can you just tell me

It's all right (It's all right)

    Let me sleep tonight

    Oh, can you comfort me

    Tonight (It's all right)

    Make it all seem fine

  • @squick1842 lol i always thought it was

"let me see you tonight" but i think your right "let me sleep tonight"..

  • @Redbirdgirl88, hehe i also thought it was "let me sleep tonight" and im still going too(even though it aint' =)

I just copy-past'ed the lyrics from the web =S

  • @squick1842 lol! i always sing what i want to even when i know it's not right..it can get pretty hilarious :)

  • cool

  • Will music ever be this beautiful again?

  • @zwanwan Tie yourself to the mast my friend and the storm will end..........................(you'll hear the music again)...

  • the dogsbollocks!! lovely!

  • @modsheff1 ..how very nicely put.. you took the words right out of my mind..pure class of a song..

  • The Verves' music is medicine for the mind and soul, brings us back to nature and reminds us that true love is the purpose of this short life and that spirit is eternal so don't worry. :-)

  • @BabylonFading2012

    totally agree!

    u rock!

  • One of the great albums of all time. S&T arguably the best track of them all - even better than BSS

  • @MrBradleyKerr

Well said, this is by far the undiscovered gem of Urban Hymns. Pure pure class
