Dave Wise created some amazing music for this version of the game, but the soundtrack was so unfocused and out-of-place.
Honestly though, I like this song infinitely more than almost any track from the original DKC soundtrack - I just wish his talent was better placed on a game that could have benefited from more somber music like this.
This sounds a lot like another DKC track but I'm having trouble placing it. Any ideas? The GBA soundtrack was so vastly different, even in tone. It's a much less jolly and serious sound. It's very hard to pick one over the other because they're too different.
It's a good tune, but I don't think it matches the levels theme of the game well at all. I prefer the SNES version over the GBA remake, which is weird to say because David Wise did the remake.
Even though I haven't played the GBA version, same here. Why? Well, the SNES had better sound than the GBA. Compare the FFs on the SNES with the Advance ones on the GBA.
I'm heavily doubting that, say, Mother 3's soundtrack would have had better sound quality on the SNES than GBA. I think that sound quality may depend on the game just as much as the system.
A game like Mother 3 truly shows what a GBA can pump out but I'm positive it would have sounded even better on the SNES. I'd say some instruments sound way superior on the GBA but the general sound quality suffers from over compression, making the overall sound feel a bit "scratchy", hard to explain! :P
(Theory alert) I think filters are the difference here. The SNES uses more filters than the GBA, but doesn't sound a but scratchy like the GBA. But filters still can obscure notes, so even without the scratching, it may be harder to make a decent instrument set. That or some notes and sounds just can't be possible on the SNES. It's proven that SNES music can be used on GBA with no change (A Link to the Past), so why should there be a discussion?
@Epicish I think A Link to the Past's music was simpler, as it came out many years before DKC3 did. DKC3 probably pushed the SNES's sound capabilities further, meaning it would be harder to translate to the GBA.
Some original games, particularly late-gen, incorporated the GBA's synth limitations into their composition. Better Mega Drive games such as Sonic 3 did this as well, however AFAIK SNES's chip ultimately has the greater potential.
There are 2 songs from the GBA version that I find very solid, which is this one and Water World. While I like both Water World versions, I vastly prefer this version over SNES' Stilt Village.
to me, the stilt village theme on SNES was really catchy, this one has more of a mysterious feel, as for the water world themes, theyre both really good, besides that, the gba version most definitely had some annoying and some out-of place songs ( map screen )
@SupraDarky Another good one was the boss theme used for Arich and Kroctopus. I don't know why they didn't just use that one for the main GBA boss theme instead of the bland and cruddy one they used for the rest of them (Even Kaos and K.roolenstein)
Incroyable parie reussi au moins pour cette musique de s'elever a la hauteur des l'OST de la version SNES !

Correct me if i'm wrong, but, isn't it other guy that places the musics in their apropriate stages? Then, STOP BLAMING DAVID WISE!!!

This isn't too bad. I don't like it as much as the snes version though. The snes version was way more catchy. This one kept the DKC style to it.

I like both versions of Stilt Village.
I think this 1 fits better in a level found only in the Game Boy Advance version. That would be the Stormy Sea level I think it's called.
All I know is that it's not in the Super Nintendo version.

1:33 - 1:50 does this song for me! just as good as snes!

It does fit the stage, and very well in my opinion.

think how awesome this could be fully orchastrated!!
first time hearing this, i thought the soundtrack wasn't so good but it definately can compete with the original!

Did the guy who composed the SNES version's music also compose this?

Where can I find the full soundtrack for the GBA version?

This song woulda fit better in the gloomy atmosphere that was featured in DKC 2. DKC 3 had a more cheerful tone, in both music and the colors used.

I think this song is better, but it doesn't fit the stage as well as the song in the SNES version does.

Yeah, I think the cheery nautical theme fits it better as well.
Still, the GBA song for it is a damn good song.

This song IS a lot better than the one on the SNES. IMO is pretty much the only one uncontested on that.

I also think that Stilt Village and Water World are the most noteworthy songs from this game (and for me, that includes the SNES version).

This song is nothing like the original SNES version of "Stilt Village". Why did they use the same title?
Awesome song, anyway. Thanks for another great upload, Darky!

Parts of this song almost sound like "Hail From the Past" from Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. I'd never heard this song before. I like it!

I definitely agree, the SNES and GBA were very similar in their graphical style but their sound quality differs greatly.
