  • I always loved richard. What happened to him in the end? Because he wasn't with the rest of them in the church so did he live?

  • @xpledgeturnprestigex no it was just suppose to be who was on the plane but they made exeptions to people like penny

  • richard is so god damn sexy <3

  • i know the answer

  • He's Herb alpert's brother. Can he play a trumpet? Hell yeah!

  • 2nd theory colsed.

  • its not eyeliner

  • richard was a "guy" who didnt "die"

  • @rinho08 actually Alpert must have died but he could move on earlier than the other main characters.

He starts to age in Season 6 when he got his first gray hair.

  • @alwynnan I didn't mean that he he didnt die, I just said because... you know, "guy" - "die"

  • Richard wuz a prisoner not captain ( as all that follow lost know by now)

  • its fun watching these theories... you almost feel like the writers.

  • @AnubisSeig Agreed ahaha, now it's all over, you know why everything happened

  • "Ricardo" wasnt the captain but instead, a slave.

  • I think its a tv show watched through the eyes of hurley.

  • i think we know everything about richard alpert now there are no more secrets from him. im very excited to see what role he, ben, and miles will play in the series finale.

  • 1) He was on the black rock - as a slave, not a captain.

    2) He met jacob, the smoke monster and thought he was dead.

    3) Jacob "gifted" him immortality.

  • richard was actually a slave on that ship and he was given the gift too live forever by jacob

  • i recently went to see clash of the titans where i saw men tearing down a statue of zues which just left the statue foot (losts statue?) and showed haydies turn into black smoke when attacking people ( black smoke? mib?) just a thought

  • @kickboards i noticed the same thing when i went to see clash o the titans...haha thats funny how now everyone relates everything back to lost

  • all theories wrong

  • Ben goes up to jack, shoots him in the head! Locke Gorws wings (help with the lsland) and goes to get walt back. kate died in episode 1 the hole time.(it was the smoke monster) and ben poops out candy. Thats my Theorie

  • "ab aeterno" is a candidate for my favorite Lost episode, being closely followed by "the constant". desmond's and richard's suffering are pretty similar, aren't they.

richard alpert the definition of awesome

  • well you just got it hehe

  • LMAOOOO man were you off

  • pretty good for being from 9 months ago.....!!

  • @YaknowItdo

    damn true.

  • Richard 5'11? I don't know bout that. Matt Fox is 6'2" and he looks way shorter than him.

  • we're finally going to get the truth about richard next week! it makes so much sense that richard came to the island on the black rock.

  • O WHERE THE FUCK IS MY COMMENT!

  • Richard is a slave from black rock ship. or might be a captain but i bet his a slave. becous floke said ''hello richard nice to see you without your chains..'' plus richard visits black rock ship the slave compartment in that ship

  • @egdqv13234 " nice to see you without your chains" is a metaphor for not being bound to Jacob,

  • yah that could mean too but richard is defently a slave who was chained in black rock ship. he was a slave

  • have u cn the last episode?

    @egdqv13234 is right!

  • Yup yup... I'm with you. he was a slave.

  • the guy that plays richard does not wear eye-liner, he said he has been teased his entire life because of the dark area around his eyes. they even try to cover it with make up on lost!

  • @erl4nd0 I think it makes him badass. I bet those who made fun of him regret it now!

  • @erl4nd0 what is the dark stuff around his eyes?

  • @llHyRaXll dark hair

  • @llHyRaXll

    Nothing, his eyes are dark.

  • is richard a candidate too, i mean he said jacob touched him.

  • he was touched, but that's not the same as being a candidate.

it just means that in some time/place in Richard's life, he was touched.

  • @canigetsomevideos Nope he wished he wouldnt die so jacob gave him that wish coz he killed a doctor to save his wife for some medicine but he was to late and she died to and he was arrested and put on a ship and sent to somewhere but they crashed into the statue and marooned on the lost island where smoke monster ate all his friend cept for him and he was left last to kill jacob but he didnt BAD LUCK lol

  • richard alpert came on the black rock he was a prisoner, maybe he died but im not sure on that.

  • duh... you are really master of theories, especially after yesterday episode :))

  • cant wait to see a dedicated Richard-episode revealing all the answers around this fellow.

  • ab aeterno is the richard episode

  • @roger767 Guess things with Richard was explained this week.

  • Can anyone tell me is this stuff just gibberish or is there meaning to it? It seems to me if you remove as many rules as the Lost writers have, you end up creating a world with no meaning. Therefore, answers given to their enigmas will have no meaning. Example: Richard being Ra. Does that have any meaning? We already know he is supernatural, what significance is there in which God he is?

  • nah Richard is egyptian i mean look at him eye shadow, everything. they most of showed the ahnk like 20 times that thing that was is hurlys guitar case and that means immortal in egyptian so hes been there alot longer then jacob i think

  • he probably was a slave but i think its funny to imagin him in a lil pirate hat with an earing, and a parrot on his shoulder, it would suit him :P

  • Yeah prisoner not slave coz its seems like every one that enters or goes to the island for some reason or other is, their life on the real world sucks or is about to turn really sucky so the island brings them for a better purpose at least im sure of that much. So Richard had to be a prisoner or done something wrong or was going towards being killed path when Jacob brang him.

  • LOL richard came from the black rock a slave ship coz nemesis said good to see u out of the chains so he was a slave, jacob has a a cave that has names on it, ppl that he brings to the island so they can take his place. i think richard was ment to take his place but then got scared SOOOO.... thats why he is imortal

  • I'm not assuming Richard was a slave from the Black Rock, just yet. The Black Rock "sailed" in the 1840's, the British had already abolished slavery by early 1800's and the slave trade at that time(America and Caribbean) dealt with African slaves. The slaves of that time were Black. If he was on the Black Rock, I'm thinking that Richard was probably a prisoner rather than a slave since Britain, at that time, sent prisoners to Australia.

  • @rpgfantatic it makes sense

  • @JawJee23Q maybe he means that Richard is out of Jacobs "chains", that since Jacob death Richard is free. Or it could mean something else but I dont think that Richard was a slave.

    I could be wrong ;)

  • maybe jacob is the bad guy and he comes back in sayids body? thats why he told hurley to take him to the temple

  • @SharkyRoll maybe, but jacob was already on the island and the people in the temple seems to be familiar with he and his precense on the temple, so makes no sense take sayid bodie to enter the temple, he seems to go there when he want

  • MIB (Locke) told Richard at the end of S06E02 that "it was nice to see him out of his chains....". so that probably mean that he was pprobably part of the crew of the Black Rock slave ship.......

  • MIB has been more active in everything from the beginning than Jacob, and I think he actually may not be as bad as people think. Ilana said that the cabin in the woods had not been used by Jacob for a long time. And yet that's where everyone seemed to think he was. The ash around the parimeter was disturbed so obviously MIB was there, and manipulating things all along. Maybe he hates Jacob cause Jacob keeps bringing people there and putting them through hell while MIB tries to fix things. ???

  • FLP Man, how do you explain Flocke saying "I'm sorry you had to see me like that" or whatever he says to that effect when Smokey kills all of Jacob's "bodyguards"?

And I like the Richard/Black Rock theory.

  • well its clear richard was on the black rock as a slave my reason for this is smokey says nice to see you out of those chains

  • I just wanna know why Richard is always wearing dress pants and a dress shirt while living in the damn jungle.

  • his "eye liner" isnt eye liner, it would be mascara, but thats not it either, his eyes are just naturally dark

  • This is what I got on Richard so far. Ok, so...Richard told Fake Locke(thinking he was Locke), that Jacob made him the way he was, obviously meaning not able to age. I assume it was because Jacob trusted Richard of being the island's leader's advisor. In s6xe2, Flocke went out of the foot to the beach and said to him something about Richard not being in chains anymore. So either Richard was imprisoned by Esau in the 1700s or Richard was a slave in the Black Rock. S6xE9 is about Richard.

  • who the hell is Esau?

  • I also think Richard was probably part of the Black Rock.....

  • @DietyZiex:

Actually, what Richard told "Locke" was : "I'm this way because of Jacob", he did not say: "Jacob made me this way". The writers of the show obviously chose the character's words carefully. Those two statements are not necessarily the same thing and Richard's actual meaning is probably something no one (viewers) expects.

  • i love how different the theories are.

is richard a god? a slave? is jacob really his helper, posing as "the one" for richard's safety (the queen amidala/patimae theory)

and one thing many people say is that Man In black, AKA NotLocke, AKA Flocke, AKA unlocke is the smoke monster.. .NOT TRUE

if it was blatantly true.. we should've seen him blatantly turn into him but we dont'

he runs away, in comes smokey, comes back.. never the two are in the same room (hannah montana theory) lol

  • @FLPman - i call the new locke the Man in Blocke

  • your fucking stupid

  • he said "I'm sorry you had to see me like that" i think that explains itself

  • i think richard isnt a god!!! he was young only bcuz of jacob! thats wat he said in one of the episodes. think he is gonna get old suddenly n die soon after jacob being killed.

  • I think Richard might have been the captain of the Black Rock. I think he might've been someone who was truly good and that's why Jacob gave him an extended, ageless life. At the 2009 Comic Con, Damon and Carlton said there is a good chance we'll be seeing Richard's backstory during the final season of LOST.

  • he was a slave on the ship

  • oooh! well that would make sense...with the whole chains thing

  • That now seems to be what he was. We'll see more soon for sure.

  • I have a big theory, Richard and Jack are gays.

  • I feel pretty safe in guessing that Richard was on the Black Rock. Maybe he was even born on the island.

  • Jack IS a jerk! He was willing to blow everyone up and sacrifice their lives and happiness because he didn't have the balls to ask or work for Kate's forgiveness. What a fucking baby!

  • hooray,kill jack,incarnate john,sawyer replaces jaco b nails claire daily,raises aaron,sawyer and claire r the skeletons

  • there's more to the island "dan dis"

  • it wassent jacks plan to detonate jughead it was daniel farriday's idea

  • i recently received the new lost season 5dharma initiative orientation kit, it comes with the truace letter that horace and richard signed and agreed on and the weird thing is that richard signed his name as RA. hmmmm

  • Mm, Richard...he is one part of Lost that I hope the show never explains. In fact, I hope he gets more mysterious; I'm pretty sure there's some explanation involving interference from Jacob/Esau and/or time travel, but I'm really hoping that he's just immortal and awesome, period.

  • Well, if the Island is Eden, then Richard's reference to getting his gift of eternal youth from Jacob, could have involved Jacob having taken him into the Temple where the Tree of Life might be ;)

  • That sounds cute but what a load of erroneous guesswork...

  • Generally, Jacob & Noname (aka Enlil & Enki), are two sides of God. One is the bright side (the holy spirit, Enki, Apollo and all the mythological figures of light - are merely masks of Jacob), the other dark side (Yaveh the destroyer of the Old Testament Enlil generally "death").

They are not good or bad, they are just destruction and creation, life and death. The villain of the story is well hidden, and it ... the smoke monster!

  • which is the smoke monster? He has a kind of snake it is a special island, its main role is to judge? well I refer you to the definition of Satan, whose original role was to judge on behalf of God! Smokey is Satan whose dark side of God (MIB) is seeking an ally. The island is just the garden of Eden, to which Jacob (Enki) guided Richard (Noah) to make the guide of the elect (he wants back into the garden of Eden before the equation Valenzetti aka the Apocalypse).

  • The smoke monster is probably just an instruments that one of these two Entities use to judge and weight the soul of some islanders in the purpose to protect this Eden Garden from bad intentions that could destroy it.

  • I'm right there with you Mazeron. I think the Smoke Monster is in fact the Angel that God put to protect the Tree of Life in the garden from sinful men (hence, why it killed Ecko.) In the book of Exodus, the Angel of the Lord appears as a Pillar of Cloud (Smoke?) by day. Did the creators of LOST imagine the "security system" God put to protect the Tree of Life (now in the Temple?) as "Smoke" like in Exodus? And did Jacob allow Richard to eat from the Tree of Life? ;)

  • YO! Idiots! if you see on the back of the black rock

is wrote PORTSMOUTH and the same TOWN in england

was under command of King Richard I i think that is the best answer cause king richard went to the sacred land and i think the sacred land or palestine, is the island! devolve upon JACOB!

  • King Richard was 1100's. "The Black Rock" sailed in the 1800's. Nice try tho.

  • Eko never killed Juliets love, who was called GOODWIN btw, it was Anan lucia who killed him when she discovered he was an Other in season 2. Juliet was actually having an affair with Goodwin and he was married to the Others' psychotherapist who was named Harper.

And of course Juliet isnt the smoke monster my god man what are you saying!! How can she be the smoke monster yet at the same time be behind the sonic fence which saved her life from it from it as it chased her and Kate?? Just no. No.

  • I like the theory that alpert is Ra but it seems that he serves jacob and Ra was the king god so that doesnt make sense. But the egyptian thing does make sense of the eyeliner.

  • If he is Ra, it would depend on the "why" he seems to serve Jacob. One of the theories out there is that Jacob may be Horus (and The Man in Black may be Seth.) Ra was grandfather of Horus. (side note: Richard told "UnLocke, thinking he was Locke: "I'm this way because of Jacob." is not necessarily the same as saying "Jacob made me this way".)

  • Its not eyeliner, he has thick eyelashes. Why cant no one see that lol.

  • Yeah, Richard and some of his people came on the Black Rock. I don't think he's a true native of the island... then I guess he's not a human being )). And he doesn't apply eyeliner lol.

Some people call that man in black antiJacob.

  • richard is the smoke monster

  • I think the smoke monster is juliette

  • that make sence, but why would she kill eko ?

  • because it was his time. His brother died when he should have. So she as the smoke monster made it be.

Oh and BTW i think all the people dead people who've appeared on the island are all MAN #2.

  • so wessidecali you are saying juliette nuked herself to become the smoke monster and killed eko because he killed her loveone in the first attack on the crash ?

  • I don't think she did it on purpose, but if you listen to all the sounds just before the nuke blows up, you'll notice they are the same noises.

i didn't even think of the fact that eko killed juiliette's man(goodwell i think)

  • no i was wrong, he did kill alot of the others, but i was trying to think about wessidecali theory, that juliette is the smoke monster. That ultra sound fence was it allready in the plans of the dharma initiative ?

  • Richard was definately on the black rock, why else would they show it's arrival in the beginning!

  • Well my guess is that scene it is part of a flashback epiosde involving Jacob, antiJacob and the black rock that we will see in season 6(they have done that type of thing i the past with other characters). But yea Richard probably is from the black rock because we know he has been there for hundreds of years and since the black rock came in the 1800s it fits. If he was RA them why would he have an American accent.

  • "If he was RA them why would he have an American accent."

Probably for the same reason most aliens, vampires, and mythical creatures on tv have one..cause the actor's playing them do :P

Tho seriously, The Black Rock was an British ship that sailed from Portsmouth (mentioned in the episode where Widmore buys the ship's log at auction and shown on the ship itself), so the question you may want to ask is: Why does Richard not have a English accent?

  • @rpgfantatic Well if he was from the Black rock it may have possible for an American to have been on it since the American war of independence had well ended by 1845. But if he was RA there is no way he would have an American accent since unlike most american shows there is a number of main characters who are not American, and many of those put on the accent they have on the show.

  • because he is not English. Richard is an alias of course. His real name is Noah and his arrival with the black rock is far from being the first on the island.

The island is the Garden of Eden, Jacob is Lucifer and Satan is Noname. two faces of evil. This is subtle, is that this is not the "good against evil," but a form of evil against another form of evil.

  • The idea is that Satan and Lucifer are not the same creatures. Noname Satan is evil for evil, Lucifer Jacob is the necessary evil for God to move to regain the lost paradise that was in us.

  • Sorry, but having actually done biblical studies in my younger years, the biblical theories out there don't quite "wash" in my opinion. Eden was over by the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers in Syria/Iraq not the ocean.

Also:1. Eden is not part of the egyptian, greco-roman, or hindu influences that are also obviously present in the show. 2. Noah (as well as Jacob & Esau) is stated as having DIED in both biblical and rabbinical teachings, 3. Lucifer was Satan's name before he was cast out of heaven.

  • sorry, but it is that you understand. The legend of Noah predates the Bible and from myths Mesopotamians (under the names of Uta-Napishtim or Ziusudra). In the legend of origin, he was granted immortality by the gods.

  • The origin of Eden is in Mesopotamia. But the island of LOST is moving, and after the Fall, Jacob has brought many civilizations on the island, including the Egyptian, Asian, black rock next, then the planes.

  • What you describe about Lucifer is generally acquired the vision that we have of him. Yet the gnostic writings and many commentators indicate that Lucifer and Satan are different. That this demonization of Lucifer is just a manipulation of Satan. In this light, Lucifer is none other than the Holy Spirit (the dove) came to help mankind to return to God.

  • ricardus is jacobs servant. he might be from the black rock because of the bottole scene and he had lock take his father to the boat to have him killed. the eye liner could be from the African tribs that he enslaved. but if anything I have to know why he wears eye liner.

  • I really think Richard came of the Black Rock

  • Richard came on the black rock (not sure if he was the captain or not) and brought to the island by Jacob to protect him for the man in black because he is the smoke monster and he can appear to people as anyone dead (such as 'alive' Locke in the final season 5 episodes, that's why Jacob and 'Locke' knew each other). in my opinion that's all Richard is, except from the none aging thing of course.

  • i think that Richard Alpert and the orininal others came on the ship because Jacob brought them there which pissed off Esua. And either Esua is the black smoke or controls it. And those random peeps on the island like Water Walt and The Horse r either Esua or Smokey. Maybe Locke is gona have super powers next :O.

  • people have been calling Jack jerk for ever...old news. There's a lot of Jack haters out there.

  • I think the Final Season will beguin in the Black Rock in XIX century!!!!!

And Jack, Kate, LaFleur, Hurley and Juliet will wake up on the ship!!!!! :0

  • Richard Alpert is the KEY to the whole show (not Jacob!!!!).

I think Richard is the only TRUE NATIVE of the Island!!!!

That's why he's "immune" to passing of Time!!!!!

  • I though from day one on the island that Lock was the key, but then lock died and then i was cleuless, my other favorite was eko died aswell, now well hurley my big friend you are blessed and my lost hope, its time to reveal your powers.

  • Mr. Eyeliner came on the ship Black Rock, and come to meet Jacob and Man in Black. The wardrobe and ship looked to be about 17 or 18 hundereds. Somehow Jacob knew someone would try to kill him so he needed people to be body vessals aka Richard. Which is why somehow Jacob blessed him with eternal life.

  • jacob and richard are brothers. thier family once lived on the island and was "ruled" by nobody. then jacob, being the bad boy of the town decided he wanted to rule. so he killed everyone and spared his brother richard if he agreed to be his servent. the rucus and termoil of caused the island to switch things up. so richard and jacob never age. which would also explain why jacob told ben to kill all of his people. to prove he could lead.

  • So is Flocke really on the good side? He promised Sun he needed to save our people and return her to her husban?

  • dude.... we didn't know about 2 locke's until may 13. when they found the dead body. there is one richard in 2007, and one in 1977. and there isn't 2 locke's. one of them (living) is the smoke monster. when alex (actually smoke monster) told ben to do anything locke says, (in the temple, this season) she wanted the other part of the smoke monster to get his way. maybe smoky here wants jacob out of the way so he can be the new leader of the island... hmmmmmmmmmmm..................................

  • @jakeatollah We had 2 Lockes: one is the one that time-jumps and is healed by Richard, while the Locke (we still thought he was really Locke at that time) is watching the scene with Ben, hiding in the Jungle

  • nope i dnt agree :D

if we think like that... hmm its not only about locke , then there is another one of everyone!! lol confusing...

  • I think Smokey, or Stormy as I like to call it (on account of the flashes) deals justice... and almost seems like it was designed for it. Such a creature would have a instinctive need to kill someone like Jacob...

When forced to choose a side, we always hope to be on the side of "light/good" rather than 'dark/bad", but usually they're both as bad as each other...

Jacob told Ben he had a choice, maybe the right thing to do what not to choose at all?

Living is easy with eyes closed.

  • lol charlies tattoo.

  • agreed.

  • I think "The Smoke Monster" is Jacob's Enemy.

  • jacob and esaw (other gray hair guy with jacob) are the jacob and esaw from the bible.

    jacob is dead? Y/N

  • (my cats name is Stormy and she looks like a cow xD) Charlie ^ ^

  • My theory is that Richard Alpert was one of the crew members from the Black Rock

  • ya and was on that boat jacob saw in the season 5 finale

  • Richard Alpert is an amazing character and an enigma...can't wait to see what or who he really is

  • yes yes and yes

  • I have a theory abour Richard Alpert. I believe Richad Alpert Might be "Jacob"

  • richard is not jacob

  • While I admit its not likely, I just don't see many realistic reasons Richard is seamingly immortal.

  • reason i say this is coz jacob is been played by a guy who hasnt been in lost yet

  • after this week

    whhy is jacks dad there?

  • dont get what you mean

  • Jacob is Jacks grandfathers father. Hands down.

  • il have to disagree with ya der mate

  • i dont follow

  • where did you get that...? lol

  • Lost is the greatest show ever produced!
