Wow, dude, you really helped me out with this! I had to setup Remote Desktop for my mom's computer (cause she asks for help way often). The one built in XP was a pain (firewalls, port forwarding etc.) Plus I'm on Ubuntu.
Teamviewer installed just fine on both systems and worked like a charm - no firewall or port forwarding hell. It's awesome to see software that just works as it should out of the box and is free. Made my day. Thanks so much for this advice! Will hook up my gf's computer too.
this is a great vid. i was just messing with my desktop (windows xp) from my ubuntu 10.10 laptop (i personally dont like 11.04) and it works great. now that i know how to use this i can help my friends much easier if they ever have a computer problem =D
this is not what i was looking for. I use this software with my clients and it is similar to VNC, except for this u don't need to tunnel any port on your firewall. And if i remember u can't use teamviewer from withen your network to your network. meaning if you are in the same subnet, it won't allow u to. What i am looking for, which I would go back to Ubuntu blog site is if there is anyway I can download RDP to my ubuntu and run it just like windows
@123456iambelial It will be if the speed of the connection is slow. But I use this with two computers that are on high speed cable and its not laggy for me.
What a fantastic piece of software. Perfect for running my Linux box Minecraft server without having to have a separate keyboard, mouse and monitor. Thanks for the heads up Linden940.
I used a site called " Letmein.com " to connect between my widows PC at work to my Windows laptop at home. I recently switched to Ubuntu at home, will this allow me to acces my Ubunto laptop at home with my windows PC at work??
@masonsushi yes it will...you just have to keep team viewer up and running...when you are at your home you just tap in the ID and passy and it will let you right in.
@linden940 : nope. You can download the source code (5.0.8888) and open it. It is totally based on wine. like i said, that is the reason it looks so ugly.
looks like a nice program, but I am looking to be able to control my home Ubuntu machine from work. It sounds like this program doesn't support that, right?
@enantiomer2000 Yes....before you go to work you have your computer turned on and turn on the program and note down the ID and pass word and go to work...open the program there and type in the ID and pass word and it will open right up..
I dont think it will be best for long term thing but if you just need to do it once in a wile..it works great for that.
happy this video was of help to you. If there are any other videos that you need to help you then please let me know and I will do what I can to help you out.

@123456iambelial There is no way of doing this that I know of.

@linden940 Thanks for the quick reply.
I am just wondering if we can add teamviewer to the startup application. I tried but I'm not sure how to use the command part.

How's the performance of teamviewer on Ubuntu?
Is it laggy when you are connected to Ubuntu from Windows?

actually, team viewer is build on wine. That is the reason why all the gui look so ugly. Hopefully, they will port it into pure linux version
trancaothai 1 year ago
@trancaothai this was not installed by wine. They do HAVE a pure ported version for Linux
