  • coulda been good, but apps can get you points of interest and all that stuff.

  • A 10 rocks thoe

  • I think it looks better than the i phone.

  • really?! wow it looks like crap compared 2 the iPhone (I still hate the iPhone because I love Blackberry's waaay better). This phone doesnt have any apps

  • no bat life... terribleee garmin just... terrible... next time just buy stocks...

  • is this phone better then the iphone 3gs?

  • yes

  • you can get a great deal on Garmin Gps systems without paying for any service - you can't make a phone call from it though.

  • it looks like a waste of money

  • is the virtual keyboard like the iphones or do u have to flip the phone over?

  • do u need to pay more than just for the phone service to use any of the other fetures?

  • yeah u pay a monthly subscription for the gps

  • r u sure? thts the biggest ripoff ever

  • thats what i read. i guess they could change it later but i read that in an article.

  • no you dont

  • how much is it!

  • VERY GOOD

  • You are such an expert at the menus. Goddamit!! lets see this thing in actual use!! Lets the the gps map screen!!

  • Customisation is never really a 'THE' reason people buy a product.

I think, consumers only know how it feels when a product presented to them is good, and not how to make the product good. Good generic usability is more important than trying satisfying 'specific wants' of individuals. Palm solved it by having a proprietory OS with 'add-ons'. Apple picked up on it too.

  • garmin proprietary BS as usual. no customization allowed. Probably no SDK neither

  • definitely better than IPhone!!

  • nothing's working yet...

  • Are you speaking Mandarin or Cantonese...?

  • what the fuck are you saying if your going to speak english speak it clearly and correctly... tard

  • the nokia n97 wins look in phonearena

  • it very underpowered jusr 400mhz processor

  • what is underpowered ? n97 ??

then tell me whats the fastest phone ?

  • n97 has only 400 adn a bit mhz processor which is very slow for such a multimedia monster.

well the fastest phone that will come out are :

    1. asus P565 with 800mhz processor

    2. Toshiba tg01 with 1ghz processor

  • i know this is a REALLY long TIME to reply you but those are windows mobile and n97 is not a windows mobile now that proves n97 is the best well i kinda like that idou phone can u please help me doing a research on whats the best phone idou[satio] or n97 ? cuz i made the toughest search and i only saw 3 or 4 phones there idou,n97,omnia < hate it !, 5800 help please my cousin bought ultra touch and my bro used it he says it got incredible Lag ! so please help and see if idou or n97 lag like it.
  • i would really like a nokia n97, because it has 32gb of memory + mem card but just a bit over 400mhz processor is really low. even if os won't lag i doubt that it's really enought and it's just a bit more powerful than 5800 which was cheap piece of shit.

Sony ericssn satio(idou) should run the same symbian 9.4

it will have 12.1 mpix cam. and im not sure but it should have more powerful processor. and i'm getting it :P

  • soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo me too im waiting for satio too .

should i buy a phone right now while waiting for it ? my phone got really major bugs ..

    i need a touch phone should i buy 5800 ?

  • if you really need it then yes, but i think it would be clever to buy something cheap of ebay as it's not a very long time till q4 of this year.

i don't think that you should buy 5800 as it's not relly any good, it doesn't even feel like nokia it feels like a cheap piece of shit

i think that g1, magic, iphone, touch hd are quite good i had a g1+iphone myself :D

  • the fastest phone imo is the nokia n900...

  • :D im gonna compare this with N97

  • Never mind the phone I love the accent

  • hahahahahhahahah well said, well said.

    free point fy inch desplay

  • if the GPS works without paying a fee to AT&T and give voice commands I would buy it over the IPhone too, and I think it will. Otherwise it has no chance against the Iphone, that's its real selling point.

  • will it be available for tmobile?

  • how much izz this phone?? it's wayy better than my phone ~ the lg vu.

  • samsung omnia is the best iphone killer !!!

  • where's this phone ended up??

    :(

  • It's currently under FCC approval. To be released under AT&T hopefully by 1st Qtr 2009

  • i hope this comes out soon i want it so bad!!!! this phone is gunna rock!

  • Does the GPS require a data connection?

I hate GPS phones that does not have its own maps.

  • I highly doubt it, it is Garmin remember, and GPS is their thing, and GPS doesn't cost when you buy a normal GPS device, so I assume it wouldn't require a data connection.

  • great!

iphone requires a data connection. the apple sdk license forbids full gps function on the iphone.

  • Fuck you

  • when is this coming out?

  • Yar i dont think should be comparing this phone to the iphone JUST yet. Iphone has been studying handheld devices for a long time while garmin just introduced this new device. Its like paring a pro player with a joe. I think this phone will be closest to the iphone and hopefully isnt made from the cheap parts like the iphone is. The OS does seem pretty laggy but its not final and i know it will be much faster on final release. Overall im thinking about getting this phone.

  • as am I, iPhone is soooooo played out now, something new for a change

  • it looks pretty good, but the OS just wont have enough backing, therefore im liking the looks of google android better, or maybe the new Palm OS, whenever that comes out. ive always been a big fan of palm OS

  • Garmin Nuvifone Fans club at

    w w w. Garmin-Nuvifone. o r g

  • anyone knows how much it costs?

  • 'It's very beautiful' :) How many times does this guy have to say 'beautiful' or 'beauty'! And he avoids that key question on cost.

  • The iPhone 3.5G or Nuvifone 3.5G? In the UK the original iPhone's 2G was too slow for our 3G networks. Now Nuvifone is tooting it's the next big thing. However, iPhone 3G has come out much earlier than Nuvifone. And cheaper.

iPhone 3G - $199, Nuvifone - $500ish. iPhone - GPS, Nuvifone - Garmin's revered GPS system, iPhone's very promising 3rd party applications, Nuvifone - ??, plays Flash sites - iPhone still NO, Nuvifone ??, Camera - iPhone 2mp (archaic), Nuvifone 3mp Geotagged with Google

  • holy shit, in belgium Iphone 3g is just released and its about 550€

    (550 € = 872.90500 US$)

  • Actually the iPhone also geotags photos now with the 2.0 update

  • the iPhone is $199 with a 2 year contract. The Nuvifone was just delayed due to contracts with wireless carriers. Originally, the $500 was WITHOUT contract. It is expected that this price will drop substantially as wireless carriers will take the hit on part of the equipment fee in exchange long term contracts.

  • so how much will it be?

  • When will manufacturers stop touting touchscreen or same resolution/size etc of their products as making them iPhone killers?! The iPhone wins on user experience, UI, SOFTWARE!!!! You can stuff an intel atom into this Nuviphone, with no CoreAnimation etc it's wasted. When Jobs said at the Keynote that they were five years ahead, this was due to Mac OS X on the iPhone, as opposed to this Win Mobile/proprietary OS nonsense. When the competition writes a decent OS, I'll have a look.

  • I've read somewhere that this is a WinMobile 6.1 device so there are no problems in obtaining new software (maybe more than what you can find for the iPhone)

  • you guys cant compare this to the iphone just because its a touch screen phone

iphone is for multimedia purposes, germin is known for their global positioning system engineering

  • throwing a car mount in the box doesnt make this phone better then an iphone lol.. omg a car mount?!! i havee to buy this phone

  • haha this was a funny post

  • I am impressed of the fact that other mobile phone developers still can't reach the iPhone in terms of interface usability. All they do is copy almost the entire way the interface works, but still it feels like the "old" iPhone is the newer device...weird...never thought that Apple would be SO far ahead with their development.

  • I would buy this over the iphone if the GPS could work on it's own. In other words I don't want to pay 10 bucks a month to ATT to use my own GPS

  • the GPS on the nüvifone works on it's own, it is an actual GPS receiver like the one in Garmin's nüvi PND's

  • looks nice... but again... 3rd party applications etc. are going to be a pain... its better to use a phone thats more popular!

  • Indeed it's Garmin's own OS so that is my only small hesitation, on the other hand, I would just want that phone to do the core functions really good (phone, GPS, email, calendar, webbrowsing) and the nüvifone looks promising

I have a HTC Touch now and apart from a solitaire once in a while I only use it for the above mentioned functions without GPS.

  • Yeah. I too own a HTC Touch Dual. I totally enjoy using it. However, it still doesnt have iPhones beautiful interface. I love it. The Nuvi looks good. But, the iPhone can do what ever the Nuvi does and more! So, I would still put my money at the iPhone... especially since it has 3g, gps and everything now!

  • I disagree, the iPhone you still have to load navigation software to really navigate, you could use Google maps but that cuts out when there is no cellphone signal plus it generates data traffic (and does that have spoken directions?).

I also do not think the iPhone comes standard with a car mount, the nüviphone does.

I think just plain out of the box the nüviphone will win, if you have add-on needs then the iPhone is more open and already has a base of software/hardware it can build on.

  • Yeah. True. You could get directions with Google Maps but you dont get a car mount and voice assisted directions. It doesnt use data for location based services. The new iPhone has built in GPS and that lets you know where you are. But again, the iPhone doesnt aim on being a full fledged GPS device. So, I guess it all depends on personal requirement.

  • Indeed ;-)

  • i disagree with u.. the iphone (standard) isnt a full flegged gps even though it has gps built in but because of the 3rd party apps that will be generated i 100% garuntee that programmers will create software for iphone that will probally turn the iphone into a gps device as functional and intuitive as this device if not better, not to mention everything the iphone has :) the app store will turn the iphone into the "everything youve ever wanted" device

  • although i forgot to mention this device is VERY impressive.. i just think iphone is a little bit more well rounded thats all.. its hard to look at this phone and not think they are playing off the iphone (using many of the same technologies)

  • I agree with you! Thats what I said... the Nuvi is impressive... Its more like a phone in a GPS device while the iPhone is the other way around... dont you think?

  • damn, they aren't able of course! :D

  • its okay. but i'm not convinced! these firms and developers just are aible to reach the style, level, functionality of the iphone. in the video he even sais that it has no button at all on the front and is better than the iphone.. what? i love the button :D

  • its a nice interface, but I don't see web-browser, real images or music yet.

This is far greatest iPhone competition so far. I do worry about apple filing a law-suite against the name Nuviphone, because it has "iphone" in it.

  • Its "nüviFONE" not nuviphone.

It has a webbrowser, it has a media player, image and movie.

It also comes with a car mount, does the iPhone?
