  • Hi Ben how do I get a copy of your written "Riffs"..and BTW I listened to your explaination on David Sprunger's riff that he plays..I have his CD but you showed me better on what he does..Many Thanks...Janet

  • Hi Ben. Thank you for taking the time to notate these riffs. Know it's a labor intensive task, but very valuable to your many students. Please do more of these for us. As a former teacher once told me, "Nothing is yours until you share it". From this students point of view, you have shared so very much - 'You Now Own The World'

  • I love this video. I also appreciate all of the dialog in the comments area. This helps us all learn faster. I wish this medium was around when I was a kid.

    Keep groovin'

  • Thank you very much. I practice these riffs with different left hand patterns and it's just great. Your videos are very helpful, and your talent is appreciated.

  • kool riffs

  • Thanks for the written riffs. It helps alot! Hope you do this with other lessons.

  • Thank you, but I got crazy trying to repeat. You are playing 1 extra note in the first riff :)

  • hmmm...

  • Hi from NYC Ben! The first time I tired to write you I don't think it posted properly. Anyway, you do great stuff here and you're very nice to post it. Oddly, some players don't want to share their stuff.. They don't get it - its not so much about the licks - its about what you put into the song - your soul and style, which isn't easily copied. I'm a pretty experienced player, though mostly by ear, and I'm getting a lot from you. So thanks again. Tom PS I'm hoping to post a vid or 2.

  • Hey Tom,

Thanks for the comment. I'm more than happy to share my riffs!

Glad the videos are helping :)

    Keep playing!

    Ben

  • thanks!

  • Hey very cool stuff!!

    But please doublecheck the notations:

    riff1.: you're playing a "c" on "3" which is not in the notation. Sure that "1" is'nt a pickup?

oher riffs.: you sometimes replace the notes with the particular ornaments. If you notate it the way you play it, it's much easyer to read.

  • Ben! Thank you so much for every single one of your instructive videos.

    Brilliant and a true talent!

  • The notation is super helpful Ben. You are so talented - when will you make a CD? Thank you for your great work. More notation please!

  • You are my best youtube musicteacher ;) Thank you so much friend :)

  • Hi Ben: Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe that the notation for Riff # 3 is what you are actually playing?

    Bruce

  • yes it's not quite correct

  • the ornament B is a Bb

  • Ronaldo!!

  • thanks friend! I'm learning piano as a hobby. and the truth that only interests me to play blues and rock, and wanted to say thanks to people like you, I can learn .... because I do not have time to go to any school. time when you come into my channel and see what I composed, greeting from argentina !!!!

  • Ben, could you give me an advise. I'm a beginner and because of my budget I should choose one of these:

    - Roland HP-203;

    - Kawai CA51;

    - Yamaha CLP 330

    - anything in that price range.

What would you buy ? Thanks a lot.

  • merci vous êtes mon prof

    Clark

  • you're a fucking king bro

  • Hi Ben

U are a great teacher buth u think u can show me how to play Live and let die over YouTube?

    Remi

  • you are the greatest teacher in the world!!!

  • Hi Ben

I am a pianoplayer myself, you have made some mistakes in your notations.

Riff 1) it is a triplet on beat 3 (Bb-g-g)

Riff 3) It is a triplet on beat 3 also (c+e-g-Bb+d) landing on beat 4 (b-d-)

Great riffs I must say, and I enjoy watching your videoes once in a while.

    Jesper, Denmark

  • Hey Jesper,

I appreciate the comment. It's difficult for me to exactly notate my riffs beat for beat seeing as they riffs I've made up, not from any original score. The score is there as a guideline, as is the audio clip I accompanied the riff with. I don't want my subscribers to turn into a copy of me; I believe Musicians should be unique with their playing.

Thanks for the comment but this is just a guideline, not an exact representation of my playing.

    All the best,

    Ben

  • @Jazzper79 thanks for the little tweeks. In riff #3 the grace note triple seems like c-Bb-g. B-a-g as notated "just don't make no sense". However, I'm no expert.

  • @Jazzper79

or riff #3 grace triple sounds good as C#-C-Bb

  • This is great man! Thanks for taking the time to post it, it's very helpful! Peace!

  • Pretty cool

  • Thanks!

  • Very decent man. Loving the Riff 4, btw is that a new microphone. lol.

  • Indeed it is, Alex. Well spotted :p

  • Wow nice
