not true, lightning bolts are hotter than the sun and the stuff around lightning strikes arent vaporized. but if a meteor was burning in the atmosphere and was big enough, it would be much hotter. not red hot, not blue hot, not white hot, but sheer friction would be producing xray and that would incinerate everything within a thousand miles.
