  • Neither pronunciations are wrong. The [ll] sounds are voiceless, lateral fricatives.

  • You need to add a fart sound at the end!

  • Why cant it just be called 'Bob'? lol

  • it's all wrong. I'm Icelandic, so I know what I'm talking about. Sorry, but you should ask an Icelandic person to teach you how to say it, there's no way that you'll find out on your own.

  • eyjafjallajokull

  • the second one is all most correct

  • im from iceland,, its way off

  • pardon me mr. IOL

    but its pru-nun-ciation n not pro-nounciation

secondly its very n not bhery.. similarly volcano n not bulcanoe...

oh i rem u just pronounced Eyja Fjatla Jökut... do i need to say that u failed completely

    -tc

  • @sudhanshu266 /care

  • Man you have too much time on your hands...wasting it trying to pronounce some Volcano in Icelandic.!

You can not even pronounce "volcano" correctly LOL start with that first!

  • @Makhecha oh i see... and you are obviously very busy doing important things like watching pointless videos on youtube and thinking you're better then other people because you don't have an accent when you speak english... asswipe...

  • what the fuck hahaha man learn english first and then try to say the name of volcano in iceland hahaha

  • @kirter89 LOL, what other languages can you speak? I'm English, but English speakers fail when they laugh at people speaking English when they themselves cannot speak another language or even bother to try.

  • the second one is right

    - an Icelander

  • I´m from Iceland and I want to tell you that the second version of the word is closer than the other ! Good job on that.

  • @Johanna2301

That is true.. i live on Iceland and the second was closer..

  • its cuz u cant pronounce ö u get it all wrong

  • You need to know the epicness off ÅÄÖ!!!

  • I heard that in their language, the 'll' is pronounced 'tll'.

  • Eyja Fjatla Jökutl,. thats how you should pronounce it correctly

  • it's Ay-yah-fyah-tla-yoh-kuhtl :D

  • i'm icelander and the last one is very close :) cause icelandic is a hard language :] so you did a very good job on that :D

  • the second kinda rigth best i ever heard

  • very good second ;)

  • you say æjafjbajökudul in the first one LOL

  • not A it´s E

  • @AlexDisel92

not for me. it is damn hard to say.

  • Wow the 2nd one is really close

  • ey-yaf-yat-la-yoh-kult

  • The second one was pretty close.

  • later is much better (almost flawless)

  • The last one is almost right :) Well done!

  • Both are wrong. The first one is hillarius - very funny lol

the latter is closer but also wrong mostly too hard on k in jökull

the name means Islands mountain glassier eyja - islands, fjalla -mountains and jökull is the iclandic name/word for glassier.

  • pretty damn well done on the second part.. and yeah Odinn put out a good point just follow that and you should get it in a few tries

  • And iamanass4listening to you

  • The second one is prytty close to it :) but the first one is far from it....lol

  • im from iceland and the second one i very good, aspecially for a non-icelandic person......good job

  • haha it's not that hard to pronounce eyjafjallajökull ...

  • the second one is almost right just keep practicing

  • The second one was closest :)

  • Last one is close, very close. But we like to make a good pronunciation on our "r's" and "L's"

  • I am from the Faroe Islands, that little group of ISlands just south of Iceland. THe Icelandic and Faroese languages are similar, but still not the same... I can tell you, that the last one was very close.

  • i think your not nearly xP im from iceland too .. (:

  • the first one is completely wrong.. but the second one is bearable :) !

  • u pronounced it so close the second one good job

  • the second one is good. in stead of saying ull udl. Often when we write 2 L together you pronounce them as DL

  • The last one is very close! just divide the word- you are pronouncing too many letters in the early one you said - Eyjafallajokudull - you should say - Ey-ja Fja-lla - jo- kull

  • @odinncool thanks for the suggestion.

  • Bhat bulkano?

  • Aya-feyapa-yer-kUDOOL! Lol.

    Aya-feyala-yoKULL! Lol.

How about eiyya-fyetla-yok-yitl? Try saying that you'd be a lot closer.

  • You are doing it wrong !

    But a fun video!

  • The second one is damn good! Well done you! :)

  • The second one is close.

  • the second one is pretty close

  • Bulcano

  • first one is way off, second one sounds alright, if you said that to an icelandic person they would understand you.. i'm icelandic btw

  • The second one was correctly pronounced.

  • 2nd one is correctish but ofcourse needs the accent

  • I'm icelandic and the last one is actually very close to be perfect!

  • @olafuringi1 haha so it is not as difficult as I assumed earlier.

  • I think you should learn English first lol hahah

  • the 2nd one is pretty close!:) im icelandic

  • second one is not correct , but more corret :)

  • Second one! :)

  • It is NEITHER, my friend. Here is the PROPER pronunciation. Pay close attention to how the END is pronounced. It is very tricky...

    /watch?v=hSo_ND41-6g

  • The second one was good..

  • Instead of the Ay, use Eh (with a sharp E, more like ey). Put somewhat of an edge on the h in Yah, the fyah-lah is quite good, but a sharper pronounciation of the L, can be fixed by putting a D in front of the L, so it'd look something like "Fyah-dlah", and again a sharp tone on the "DL".

Then the Yoh-kuul, which is quite nice, actually, but try the same thing as with "Fyah-lah", and but a D in front of the L.

So something like: Ey-Yah-Fyah-dla-YOH-kuudl (one pronounciation of many, though)

  • Where the two L-s are you should read it like it would be a T before them: "Eyjafjatlajokutl" Now if you want to be perfect, you should read the EY as the letter A in English: A-afjatlajokutl.

  • I've heard worse! The second one is very close :)

  • Its not a volcainu x'''D Its a glacier,, dooh

  • yup, second one was reaally good. haha good job ;)

  • the 2nd one is really, really well pronounced!

  • The second one is pretty damn good.. The best pronounciation I've heard so far, except of course for the Icelandic people.. I am Icelandic btw.

  • @bboyleftfoot thanks for the confirmation that I could closely pronounce as a non-icelandic.

  • 2nd was really close...

  • the second one sounded more correct than everything else we've heard lately....still not completely correct but of course it's a difficult language :P

  • A message from an Icelander, the correct pronunciation of Eyjafjallajokull: ?v=hSo_ND41-6g

  • This guys is actually quite close to it in his 2nd pronounciation :)

    Im icelandic btw

  • Hahah aww :)

You're second try is almost right..

  • The name of what? Bulcanoe?

  • The name of what? Bulcanoe?

  • @masterplano Volcano.

  • My countrymen should not be bragging and laughing about this: I would lik to see them pronounce the Greenlandic word for departure which is something like 25 letters with 4 a's 6 q's, 4 i's in a row and so on. Or even an arabic or indian word. Then they would not have the last laugh. :D

  • I am Icelandic. Your later pronouncement is closer to the right one. Actually pretty good. I recommend that people just stop trying to pronounce this correctly and just translate what it means and call it ISLANDS MOUNTAINS GLACIER. Eyja: Islands; Fjalla: Mountains; Jokull: Glacier.

I understand people have great fun cracking this nut though . Specially while waiting in airports. That's a positive thing. Something to take your mind of the seriousness of the matter. Excellent try.

  • @prakkari thanks for confirming that the second one is almost right.

  • @prakkari já nákvæmlega

  • hahahaa.... the second one is closer...

  • The 2nd one was alomst right =) and im from ICELAND !!

  • the second one was pretty close, Eyh-A-Fyat-La-Jo-Cool is as close as you might get i think.

  • The second is really close... Good work :) and yeah I'm Icelandic

  • Hehe osom! The second one pretty much sounds correct. I'm from iceland btw! :D

  • Eye Ya Fella You Cool!

  • Perfect ! now they know how to pronounce it in Iceland

  • 2nd one is closer ;)

  • Hahaha you are saying it all wrong xD hahah i´m probably the only one who finds this video to be funny but that is just because i´m from iceland and I know how to say it correctly

  • hahaa i´m probably the only one laughing at this video because i´m from Iceland and the way you are saying it is just wrong xD but nice try though :D

  • HAHA try to set captions on the video ;D

U will get some funny sentence :b

  • @opvaskemiddel I notices that it seems like some random captions or it does not get my accent remotely. Anyway, it is funny. Thanks for pointing this out.

  • is he an authority?

  • Yes I heard that the second one was correct as well. Someone called in on a radio show and pronounced it like the second. The first one doesn't make much sense honestly because the "j" is pronounced "y".

  • second one is pretty much it:)

  • most difficult password ever Eyjafjallajokull :)

  • May I ask, with all due respect, why you would post a video about how to pronounce a word that you, in fact, do not know how to pronounce? Even though the second one is closer, it's still not right. I just don't see the point of this.

  • @jevicci As you say the second one is closer, doesn't it serve the purpose. It is a difficult name and I tried. You acknowledged that I nearly passed and this was the purpose of the video. Thanks.

  • @IOLTVChannel No, not really. If the purpose is to instruct people on how to pronounce a word, how does giving them two incorrect guesses serve that purpose, even if one is closer? I agree, it is a hard word to pronounce, and I give you credit for trying, but again, how does this serve the purpose? Unless I'm misunderstanding the purpose of this video and it's just to showcase you trying to pronounce a difficult word, in which case, the title is misleading.

  • The second one is as good as right. Quite good actually!

  • I think the key is that the double L indicates a glottal stop (similar to Italian), where you cut the flow of air before continuing. So it sounds a bit like "dl" or "tl" but really it's a glottal stop followed by an L sound that is joined to whatever comes after (or just air when it's at the end of the word).

  • The last one was more like it :)

    Harpa Dís (icelander)

  • The second one is the more accurate one.

  • @azimiut I have every right to delete your comment and block you but I am sparing you from such decision and let the people know what kind of person you are. Bless you.

  • yaar what you are saying?

  • EH-ya fee-YAT-la YOH-kootl

  • @jayloganyt I read these following two

    Ay-yah-FYAH-plah-yer-kuh-duhl

    or

    AY-yah-fyah-lah-YOH-kuul

  • thanks for the video !

strange name... who ever gave such a name :D

  • @HELLENIGMA They might have never thought that it would be world famous volcano one day

  • @IOLTVChannel actuly its a glacer :D

  • @HELLENIGMA The name means "island mountain glacier" in Icelandic, a perfectly reasonable name. LOL @ them naming it something else if they knew it would be famous someday.

  • @HELLENIGMA Some visioner who thought; When the technology will be so good that people all over the world can see this volcano/glacier erupt I will have given it an unpronounceable name so that Icelanders can laugh at their attempts to pronounce the name, especially in a crise like this :D

  • you are horrifically wrong, type "icleand volcano pigeon" into youtube and you will find out how!

  • I have notices some of the reporters just say "this volcano" or "Iceland volcano" etc.

  • The second was more correct than the first one. Good that you are trying, the news in US dont even try. =)
