now that I hear this song the way it was supposed to sound, with all the added parts in there (I only ever knew the abbreviated version - without the acapella thing at the beginning, without the cantina, etc) I finally understand why there was so much hype around this whole "Smile" project that was never finished. I never saw what the big deal about Heroes and Villains until now. In its entirety it all makes much more sense musically. It's like a little journey, not just a pop song...

Could someone give some info on the footage that is used for this video, I mean some REAL info. Where does it come from? Is it a movie? Is it a couple of different movies? Is it a dream sequence in a movie? What year is it from? Is it a real '60s "celebration of the old west" gathering where kids were allowed to pretend they were killing one another?

@sirpaisley I hope thats the case because from what I've heard, Mrs.O'leary's Cow is so intense Brian called it "Bad Vibrations" and that would be a shame if he destroyed most of the tapes. I have chosen to not listen to most of the SMiLE bootlegs and Smiley Smile so when I do get the version they release, i can listen to it as a whole, kinda like Sgt Pepper or Tommy should be listened to.

@robotorb They seem to be living in the past and think that you either buy the CD or if you're not, you must be buying an illegal copy, not realizing that in the 21st century, listening to something on the internet is no different than listening to it on the radio or at the library, since nobody's profiting from it, except ironically, the people who are trying to bully people into paying money for MP3s or CDs. I wonder if they also want radio to become pay-to-listen.

Is the intro really a Beach Boys recording? 'Cause I've never heard it and sounds just like in Brian's Smile solo version, as if this was recorded after and modeled after Brian's 2004 recording, then put together with the 1967 BB's version of Heroes and Villains. (also remixed to fit Brian's 2004 version)

@begbieboy The intro is from the "Good Vibrations" 5-disc set, which was released in 1993. (It was part of a long track called "Heroes and Villains Sections".) ALL of Brian's 2004 remake, save for the little flourish that leads into (ahem) "Roll Plymouth Rock", exists in Beach Boys form.

Not a very good video--too much violence, and the children shooting guns is in very poor taste: but the music editing is excellent! The only thing is, the "At three score and five" segment was omitted. That's a fairly essential peice of the song, don't you think? I know it isn't on the finished product, but it went well with the rest of it.
