@dragefyr LOL, that's not what real scientists are saying. That's only what fake scientists on youtube are saying. The only "rock" that we know about even coming close to Earth, is going to be in 2029. It will come in between the moon and Earth, and it is not expected to hit at all... Most near-Earth events don't even get recognized until after the event takes place.

@dragefyr Also to note, there are many "predictions" on what will happen in 2012, but as history has shown... ALL predictions of the "end date" have been wrong. Don't believe anyone if they tell you such a date. Then again, they only have to be right once! ;) (There is also the story "The boy who cried wolf", and eventually it will happen too.) The only REAL situation that could be a global catastrophe -around- 2012 is a solar flare which can happen ANYTIME.

I don't know much about a solar flare either but by the looks of it the white spectacle at the top left of the sun is most likely the solar flare, you can also see it get bigger in the last second of the video.

yeah, it certainly is a little troubling. The sun is supposed to be going through an 11 year cycle now, or at least starting. Apparently the sun and earth goes through similar cycles around the same time. I'm thinking it has to do with our magnetosphere switching poles (which happens every 780,000 years) which some think correlates with 2012, but I dunno. Tho the sun goes through cycles frequently.

It takes 24 hours for Earth to rotate 360 degrees. It takes 365 days (most of the time) for Earth to make one complete revolution. (Earth going around the sun)
They are an indicator of a hotter sun, even though they themselves are cooler. They are eddies in the flow of matter/energy which, as in a river, become more prevalent the faster it flows. So the reason we are afraid of 2012 is that there is a SMALL CHANCE that our magnetic feild is going to flip in 2012 of all years. And in 2012 the sun is at solar maximum. So if a big solar storm hits us when we shortly have no magnetic feild, we are in trouble. We will go back to the Dark Ages. NOT THE END OF THE WORLD.

@dean000000001 the solar cycle peaks every 11 years but the cycle is continuous and it peaks on 2012 the year we slip over th ecliptic ..who knows what will happen my guess is a polarity shift where our solar system is flung into chaos ..a galaxy is polarised just like a battery positive and negative this dictates the direction of rotation of nearly everything in the galaxy..the passing of the ecliptic is a big deal

This is a tiny flare just wait a while - much bigger ones to come. The cycle (24) has only just started.
Flares of this size have no measurable effect on Earth. Besdies it occurred on the far side of the Sun so the aerth never felt any effect from it (this video was captured by NASA STEREO B spacecraft).

there have been some cases in smaller eruptions that canadian substations went down (since the electro magnetical pole were still there (since it is now near Norway i fear that europe may be hit hard

@dragefyr LOL, that's not what real scientists are saying. That's only what fake scientists on youtube are saying. The only "rock" that we know about even coming close to Earth, is going to be in 2029. It will come in between the moon and Earth, and it is not expected to hit at all... Most near-Earth events don't even get recognized until after the event takes place.
Anyway, my comment to you was directed towards what you said directly to me about believing a rock was going to hit the Earth.

@dragefyr Also to note, there are many "predictions" on what will happen in 2012, but as history has shown... ALL predictions of the "end date" have been wrong. Don't believe anyone if they tell you such a date. Then again, they only have to be right once! ;) (There is also the story "The boy who cried wolf", and eventually it will happen too.) The only REAL situation that could be a global catastrophe -around- 2012 is a solar flare which can happen ANYTIME.

...but to kind of answer your question(?)... Scientists know less that people think... There have been reports of meteorites coming within smacking distance of the Earth.. and scientists didn't find out until after the fact. I wouldn't trust what any "scientist" will tell you, as they bend the truth to fit "their" side of the story.

Why so pessimistic everyone? lol The mayans did the whole 12/12/2012 thing, but it is also been studied that nothing will happen on that day. They also say that the calender just starts over on that day. And added to that, a lot of researchers say that day will be the beginning of an intellectual time where the world is at peace. almost 100 years? from what I've heard, the reason the poles flip are because of being above or below the gelactic equator. which is supposedly every 780,000 years. But alls well. I also heard gamma rays are nassssty tho. all this talk is making me want to research more into it, hehe. yeah, it certainly is a little troubling. The sun is supposed to be going through an 11 year cycle now, or at least starting. Apparently the sun and earth goes through similar cycles around the same time. I'm thinking it has to do with our magnetosphere switching poles (which happens every 780,000 years) which some think correlates with 2012, but I dunno. Tho the sun goes through cycles frequently.

well, I've heard a few resources that the point at 12/21/2012 is actually when the solar system reaches the equator of our galaxy, which is what is supposed to cause our magnetosphere to flip, as well as every planet in our solar system and the sun itself. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
But with that, the suns poles flip along with our poles flipping, but we'll get creamed by gamma rays from the black hole in the center of our galaxy. PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong.

It takes 24 hours for Earth to rotate 360 degrees. It takes 365 days (most of the time) for Earth to make one complete revolution. (Earth going around the sun)

Sunspots are points of cooler areas on the sun. They're associated with strong magnetic forces.

More sunspots = more magnetic activity on the sun. Which causes more solar wind hitting our magnetic field

They are an indicator of a hotter sun, even though they themselves are cooler. They are eddies in the flow of matter/energy which, as in a river, become more prevalent the faster it flows. No sunspots (such as we've had a disturbingly many days of still, despite this one event), indicate low activity/heat.

A sunspot appears dark because it represents a cooler part of the suns' crust..thats why they appear that way :)
