She was great acting as Rose and a pretty woman as well. I did not like the former actress who played Rose in the very first episodes but Mary Millar was just perfect. I enjoyed watching KUA and had such a laugh. i watched the series on BBC Prime (as i'm french). i wish we could have good and funny series like that in france.
All the actors were great... what lovely memories !!
Mary Millar will always sparkle like a flawless diamond. My fav show KUA. What a beautiful person.She is keeping my dad company in a wonderful place. I miss both of them,!
@dissident93 haha yeah i think there is the odd Yank who knows who she is, but yeah i think she was and still is really popular here, she was one of the most popular character on the show apart from the lead of Hyacinth. 1and i doubt it, im not one to make a load of videos lol! haha i cant believe its been 4 years since making this vid hehe :)
@Geezworld234 Somehow I doubt that Gee because according to the cast and crew of Keeping Up Appearances, the character of Rose and the two actresses that played her are the least popular, plus they never get any recognition or mention in any interviews.
Hyacinth, Richard, Elizabeth, Emmet, Daisy, Onslow and even the vicar get recognition but never Rose. Remember the Comedy Connections episode I uploaded? No hint or clue was given to the character of Rose or the two actresses that played her.
Just think . If she was still alive she would have been 74 today . 26/07/10 . And looking at her in Keeping Up Apearances when she was in her 50s but could pass for 40 then without doubt , the best looking 74 year old babe on the plannet .
@lail111 I'm sure a lot of people would kill for her body . There again if you talking what I think you are talking then there are things you can do . Don't accept defeat ; if you want a figure more like hers then do your best and go for it .
@ShatterLikeGlass Whoop heya Jen! awh thanks 4 watchin! haha it dnt matter! lol awsome to see you on here haha :) love yhooo :) ps have a great weekend lol tho ill probs text u bout eastenders lol xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
If you count the spin off episode in 1997 ''The Memoirs Of Hyacinth Bucket'' where it's just Daisy and Onslow narrating through all the best bits of the show, then really Mary died only a year later from the end of the show.
@TheNeonAngel Well T...N...A..., I 'ascribed' 2-Ur comment a 'thumbs-up,' cuz I always wondered -- & never saw innee'ware: Whatever DED become of the original Hyacinth's 'Adventurous' Sister?
I really dug her style & how she played this character, too. Plus she had a certain 'look' she'd infuse into the character which you 'knew' was HER interpretation -- not just sumpin' U-could 'write into a script.'
She was a beautiful Rose in more ways than one. She added so much to KUA with her character. She was so warm and likable and funny. A lovely, lovely person.
Mary will always be remembered by me as my all time favourite Mrs Potts. Her voice was ideal for the role, which she continued to play during her illness and treatments until she could no longer physically.
I agree with you there, but i love her in all her roles, she was always the right choice! :)
Thats why i admire her and her fighting spirt as she did not let her illness get the better of her for as long as she could! :) thanx 4 commentin xxxx
RIP Mary. You were great as was all the other actors/actresses in KUA. It is a wonderful gift to make people happy through laughter. My only regret is that there were not more episodes.
Mary Millar has truly touched my heart! I bought the boxset of Keeping Up Appearances on DVD in 2008 and towards the end of the boxset I was shocked to learn that she passed away. I felt so sad it was like a loved one dying, since then I have made my own video of her simply titled In Memory Mary Millar. It highlights her performance as Rose and has a catchy song to it called She'll Be Coming Around The Mountain. That song always reminds me of her and her legacy.
Not a day goes passed that I don't think about her for she was a remarkeble actress. I'm also sad that i'll never get to see her in the theatre or any other television shows. I love Patricia Routledge as an actress but I love Mary Millar even more! How can such a beautiful woman with every thing to live for pass away. She was only 62. She had a fantastic career in the theatre all through the decades but the 1990's will always be her best. Now I can only hope that she's gone to a better place!
True but Some fans think that her Beauty And The Beast role was her finest hour when she lit up the stage as Mrs Potts in 1996 just before she became ill. I think Mary playing Rose in K.U.A. was her greatest role and it also gave her the most recognition around the world. She had many theatre roles to her name but She will always be remembered as Hyacinth's youngest sister Rose. God Bless Her!!

Most Americans probably never heard of her, and I know I didn't.
But it seems like she is extremely popular in Europe and Australia.
I wonder how your video making skills have improved in nearly 4 years, Gee.

@2100Rose
she was 59 in some of the episodes hard to beleive she kept her figure and good looks.
in my opinion she looked younger than 40 you don't see many 40 year old women with a figure like hers.
i would kill 4 her body and i'm in my 20's.

When I was watching KUP, I had no idea Mary was in her mid to late 50's. She had a terrific figure. I would have guessed her to be 40ish.

I agree. I loved when she would get jilted by yet another lover and she would be all dramatic and plead with Onslow "Oh, please, give us a fag!"

You might be very interested to know that KPA is Mary Millar's 2nd finest hour.
Her first finest? She is the original Madame Giry of The Phantom of the Opera musical.
