@Geeljasjes cheers G, just a bit of fun, some of the beggining section is nicked from 'Mark King at the Expohal' solo bass thing! The rest is random slappage!!
@MrOxipower cheers mate, just a bit of fun! Check out my latest solo video, I'm hoping I've got a bit better! That bass was a Status-Washburn series 1000, good little basses and a good price for an entry level Status!
@zarigunn Hi mate, its one of the characterisics of the the series 1000 status basses, plus I was playing through hifi speakers!! Check out my last few vids for an improved sound
This is just a few of Mark Kings and my riffs thrown together - just a bit of fun! Check out some of my other vids, this was done when I wasn't used to doing the vids!
It all depends on what slap style a person prefers, I grew up listening to Mark King and my style, though not as good his, leans towards the rythmic style as he does.
I have never practiced bass or had a lesson., I've just picked things up over time, listening and learning songs by ear.
A low end all depends on what you want with a bass, status basses are known for their hifi punchy sound, I'd rather play them than a fender, just my taste
@jonannlou You say you "have never practiced bass or had a lesson."
Wow, how can you be so skilled without having practiced?
Do you think you could do a favor for us unskilled players and please make a tutorial video sometime, showing in detail your techniques slowed down, so some of us can pick it up. I'm really interested in seeing what techniques you are using to achieve such fast riffs. I myself, and I'm sure others, would be really grateful. =)
@Solaphar I'll have to think of doing one, but I might be doing everything wrong :) Alot of my technique is down to listening to Level 42/Mark King, look up a video on here called mark king bass technique and you'll see Mark say how he does the triplet thing... For any help just ask!
@jonannlou "I'll have to think of doing one, but I might be doing everything wrong :)"
I would appreciate if you would. You may think your technique is wrong, but I believe there's no wrong technique (although some ways can be more likely to cause long-term injury - CTS). I think it's the sound that matters and I like your sound.
I do already know the basic SHP (slap-hammer-pop) technique for triplets, but I would very much like to see a detailed overview of *your* technique, not Mr.King's. =)
@Solaphar Cheers! One of the things I try to do is minimise movement from the elbow to the hand. Imagine turning a key in a door, for most slap thats all you need, where people move from the elbow its usually a bad habit or showmanship, but it slows you down alot! I have another solo vid oin here from a couple of months ago, check that out too..

a few nice tricks but not convincing enough to take it seriously.
A fast slap isn't hard to do...everyone can do this after some intensive practise!
It's the slow steady slap with a nice low end, lots of push en few notes that makes a slap a real kick ass slap.
Never the less, keep it up....most people love to see this ;-)

monarchmovies 2 years ago
whats that supposed to mean!
jonannlou 2 years ago
It means your video says "look how technically fast I can play regardless of how musical it sounds or how melodic it might be!"
StereoEarth 2 years ago
all I did was a few of Mark King and my own bass excersizes put together. If mark kings solos are that to you then thats your opinion.
jonannlou 2 years ago
That was implied in the headline. You're just "farting around." I was just reinterpreting monarchmovies' quote, and not trying to add my thoughts.
I think you're highly skilled, and I wish I had your technical skills. I do not.
StereoEarth 2 years ago
sorry stereoearth, wasn't trying to be nasty, just sometimes you can get real idiots on here and they leave all the nasty messages!
Not sure about technical skills - I'm self taught! Thanks alot though
