you can get a pet dog... go to a place called meeko's shack just below solitude. you find the dog then he'll follow you. you can have him in addition to lydia and he's actually pretty good ... just an fyi. like so people can see this.

You can get Lydia back by going to Whiterun, enter the Hall of the Dead, then opening both iron doors she wud be in one of them. OR you can go get onmdum (think thats his name) the guy at the Winterhold College. Like so he can see this.

You're not healing lydia half the time, you're aiming at your enemy so sometimes you are actually healing the enemy although some of those enemies cant take healing so you're just wasting magicka. Also yea you are like Lydia's sidekick she does more than you do
