when i first saw this chapter i knew that in the thing before shippuden he used tskuyomi on sasuke and then he was caught in jirayas frog stomache thing then he used amaterasu to get out which means he has been using mangekyou for a while,which makes him blind so i thought he was trying to take out sasukes and was blind and missed but later revealed in manga he was passing all his eye techniques to sauske

and since sasuke didnt know about these powers itachi implanted it so that when he saw tobis sharigan he would fire an amaterasu but itachi killed the clan to protect sasuke because of leaf orders and leaf knew that uchihas were killing each other and ripping each others eyes out so he wanted to save sauske and he always made it look like he hated sauske but really he just wanted to save his little brother to become stronger then him and eventually try to kill madara with new sharigan

Madara is behind it all I suspect. Itachi was just a piece on the chess board. A powerful piece. Madara probably convinced him to kill his best friend, blackmailed him, eliminated the entire clan, but left Sasuke alone at Itachi's request. Itachi may have been pushing Sasuke all of this time in order that one of them would gain enough strength to kill Madara. Just a thought. In any case, the next few chapters are going to be about figuring out exactly what was Itachi's motives.
