For all of you that say "if chevy supercharged their ss...", who cares? Chevy didn't and it's their loss, if you're going to build a super truck, do it right, Ford did.

That is a great race between a stock Lightning and a heavily modified 6.0L, check out the ET, no stock truck has ever hit a 12.60 at 107, i don't care who makes it!
Just please remind and correct me if im wrong but ive found articals online stating the 2001 lightnings where rated a just over 350 hp with the supercharger power numbers were not higher till the Srt10 came out. Just thought id throw that out there.

Had an 89 5.0 mustang conv and fuk it was a dog. 'ol woman in a wheel chair were faster than me. Gas mpg was kinda shitty but not bad. 1/4 mi was a blazing 16 sec @ 84 mph. Think I needed a helmet for that one

The stock heads on windor engines (302 / 351) were designed to pass emissions, not to make power.

Here are just a few examples; 2UR-GSE 4969 cc 417 hp 373 ft.lb torque, 3UR-FE 5.7-liter (5663 cc) 383 hp 401 ft.lb torque, Nissan VK45DE 4.5 liter v8 490 hp 380 ft.lb, reportedly capable of 790hp without homologation restrictions. There are no GM or Ford v8 engines that can achieve these performance numbers from the factory. Should have gone Japanese...

In fact the Toyota 2UR-GSE would be putting out 500+ horsepower from less than 5 liters if the Yamaha engineers had their way; it was Toyota that insisted on 200k + reliability. The simple truth is that any given displacement or configuration of engine from a Japanese manufacturer is more efficient and powerful than its American counterpart. That's not an opinion, that's fact.

The new 5.0 engine is up to 446HP now. (It was 412hp) And Ford once had a 6.2 liter N/A 620 HP V10, when they built their Ford Shelby GR-1 concept car.
Take the best example of any Japanese 4, 6, 8, or 10 cylinder vehicle of a given displacement and compare it to the best American example. Every time, the Japanese engine will have more horsepower throughout its RPM range than a comparable American engine; that is no accident. The Japanese are more meticulous when it comes to engineering automobiles than the Americans. Whether you like it or not, that is the plain and simple truth.
Just take a look at the 4.8 liter v10 in the Toyota LFA; it makes 550 hp and 390 ft.lbs of torque from only 4.8 liters. Can you imagine what Toyota or Honda could do with a 8.4 liter engine like that in the Viper? Dodge can only manage 600 hp from an engine nearly twice as big as the 4.8 liter in the Toyota. Both are great trucks. Driven both. Yes you could mod a stock Silverado SS and that would kick a stock lightnings ass, But then you could just mod the Stock lightning and it would smoke the Chevy. I'm a fan of Ford and Chevy, but i like Fords more! In this battle The lightning will be one step ahead of the SS!

Had an 89 5.0 mustang conv and fuk it was a dog. 'ol woman in a wheel chair were faster than me. Gas mpg was kinda shitty but not bad. 1/4 mi was a blazing 16 sec @ 84 mph. Think I needed a helmet for that one

Seriously though, The 5.0 mustangs were dogs in stock form. You needed to swap out the heads and upgrade the transmission before they really start to move.
The stock heads on windor engines (302 / 351) were designed to pass emissions, not to make power.

The Japanese have been using variable valve timing for more than 20 years; the Americans are finally just catching on. European engines are a good example of what American engines could be if American engineers weren't so lazy.

After just a tiny bit of research I have confirmed it, just about any Japanese v8 is superior to any American v8 of similar displacement. Here are just a few examples; 2UR-GSE 4969 cc 417 hp 373 ft.lb torque, 3UR-FE 5.7-liter (5663 cc) 383 hp 401 ft.lb torque, Nissan VK45DE 4.5 liter v8 490 hp 380 ft.lb, reportedly capable of 790hp without homologation restrictions. There are no GM or Ford v8 engines that can achieve these performance numbers from the factory. Should have gone Japanese...

@streetpunk83 The 5.0 Ford engine outputs less horsepower and you can bet it's not as reliable as the Toyota's. In fact the Toyota 2UR-GSE would be putting out 500+ horsepower from less than 5 liters if the Yamaha engineers had their way; it was Toyota that insisted on 200k + reliability. The simple truth is that any given displacement or configuration of engine from a Japanese manufacturer is more efficient and powerful than its American counterpart. That's not an opinion, that's fact.

The new 5.0 engine is up to 446HP now. (It was 412hp) And Ford once had a 6.2 liter N/A 620 HP V10, when they built their Ford Shelby GR-1 concept car.

Just take a look at the 4.8 liter v10 in the Toyota LFA; it makes 550 hp and 390 ft.lbs of torque from only 4.8 liters. Can you imagine what Toyota or Honda could do with a 8.4 liter engine like that in the Viper? Dodge can only manage 600 hp from an engine nearly twice as big as the 4.8 liter in the Toyota. Doing layman calculations we could roughly estimate Toyota would extract nearly 950 hp from an engine with 8.4 liters of displacement. Any more questions?

Both are great trucks. Driven both. Yes you could mod a stock Silverado SS and that would kick a stock lightnings ass, But then you could just mod the Stock lightning and it would smoke the Chevy. I'm a fan of Ford and Chevy, but i like Fords more! In this battle The lightning will be one step ahead of the SS!
