Every damn time I hear David hit that first NOTE, I instantly cringe! It's like it hits my heart! I guess it's because of the words and the way David delivers that PAIN that only a trouble soul can.....*sigh*....geniuses are usually troubled, too much going on in their head, David was no different. God rest his soul AND Roger Penzabene's soul (the song writer). Damn shame how both of them went out but such a blessing how their music lives on.

David Ruffin is amazing on this song, as always. But, everything about this record is perfect -- the harmonies, the counterpoint, the instrumentation. I once visited the Hitsville studio. It is amazing that this big and wonderful sound was created in that little basement. Nothing equals Motown -- in fact, nothing else even comes close!
