  • He's always seemed so happy and humorous when answering questions and making speeches he always has a whitty or sarcastic line and you can see him laughing afterwards, which for someone in his circumstance is heroic and legendary and considering what he has acomplished throughout his career as a none abled person is amazing! ***THUMBS UP

  • wow, people really making fun of Mr. Hawking? unfortunate. I can't fathom that heartlessness. I also can't even begin to imagine how we're all affected by the fact that he is ill. Can you imagine what kind of contributions he could make without such a daunting hinderance of doing things like communicating? He can only speak I think 4-6 words a min. Imagine how much is locked away simply because he simply doesnt have time to say it all????

  • Gravitationalist, for uploading this series, I love you!

Stephen Hawking is one of my intellectual idols

  • Im loving this series. Thanks a bunch for uploading it!

  • are u making fun of hawking, i think that it is very unfortinate that hawking is sick, ive got cold right now and i cant wait till it ends, ill be very happy when it goes away, but i cant imagine wat it is like to be paralized for the rest of life, i think it is so bad, it better to be dead

  • @Zee96969696 Its not better to be dead than paralyzed. I'm disabled too. When your in such a situation things get very different, and you simply HAVE to adapt. Hawking did well. Getting "pity" or stupid assumption from healthy people is VERY annoying. About everyone disabled I know HATE pity.

  • lol, you getting annoyed with pitty? well, I don't feel any pitty for you asshole, why don't you go and die somewhere, I don't give a fuck. does this make you feel better dickhead? I hope not

  • @DoomNoMore - What is *most* amazing about Hawking is not his contributions to physics, themselves. Others have made arguably more significant ones. But consider that Hawking speaks and writes at 5 words a minute... and declining. And even simple diagrams or equations are a problem. He just has to keep all that complex information organized in his head. It would have been so easy to give up. But operating under severe constraints, he's done fantastic work. He's a living inspiration.

  • @Zee96969696 What a stupid foolish statement coming from a stupid foolish person. The problem with you, is that you are weak. Weak minded and weak willed. Having such a weak nature and being filled with such fear, I am sure you have accomplished very little in life--much less certainly than the so called "disabled" Stephen Hawkin.

  • @Zee96969696

@Zee96969696 He is much stronger and more couragous than you can ever hope to be in that despite his difficulties, he has achieved very much not letting anything stop him. I would prefer to be him anyday, rather than a weak, pathetic, retard like yourself. At the smallest amounts of pressure and difficulty, you fold in.

  • @Zee96969696 You are pathetic and sad. And we can tell this because you are whining over a stupid common cold and you can't spell for shit. I feel sorry for weak, sniveling creatures like you, not the "disabled" people because they have proven that they can overcome challenges in life. Life has a lot of challenges, and for your own sake, you'd better hope none come your way because you'd be the first one to jump over a building, slit your own throat, or blow your brains out. I pitty you.

  • @NordicCaveResistance

Yes i talk to my wife about such things..

she's a black woman & has insights that i dont.

    are you married ?.....:)

  • @Zee96969696 You already are dead... BRAIN DEAD !!!

  • dude. think about what you said. gravity doesn't exist because you can't see it? so that means you've seen God? not being disrespectful, just showing you how you need to be careful when you make a comparison.

  • It's been 2 years. Does anyone know how Chris Stubs and MACHOS is doing?

  • Let's just face it, gravity doesn't exist. For one, gravity is never mentioned in the Bible. Secondly, you can't see gravity, you can only see different objects be pulled by it, which of course means that what we see as gravity is really just God moving things around.

  • titan - just because one cant see ones arse from ones elbow but doesn't mean they dont exist. but maybe you are right maybe God playing gravity.

The funny thing about physics - it just keeps on showing that God actually exists (when I say God I mean unknown all powerful something that controls all our destiny etc...).

  • No it doesn't. lol.

  • "99% of the universe maybe made up of of dark matter. "

so dark matter would be all around us?

Maybe the existence of dark matter proves that our methods and experiments are rubbish and their conclusions are incorrect. Maybe we can learn more about dark matter through astrology not astronomy. Think about that when you next apply for a grant. :)

  • did you know that our galaxy is only 10^-80 of the whoe universe dark matter is only present between galaxies not in them!! they might be present in the halos of galaxies but not near the planets if it was near our planets we wouldnt be able to see it

  • so how do you know its not near the planets if dark matter can't be detected?

  • using the same techniques that astrophysicists used to deduce the existence of dark matter in galaxy clusters and in their halos... they simply applied the same techniques of observation to try and detect dark matter in our solar system, but they did not find any similar anomalies pointing to the presence of dark matter around, so they deduced that it cannot be near us.

  • but maybe the techniques aren't sensitive enough to detect at relative close distance?

  • maybe the techniques aren't sensitive enough to detect dark matter at the relatively close distances within our solar system? how did they prove that is not the case?

  • remember that we sent many ships to explore the outer space, well if dark matter was present near those ships while hey were on their way then the signals returning to us from the ships would have revealed anomalies in the space arround it thus laeading us to the conclusion that dark matter is arround us. BUT no such anomalies were noticed... you can do the aftermass yourself.

  • also remember the deductions from nasa dark matter is thought to be of massive gelatinous texture so if dark matter was present arrround us then when we sent the ships they would have stuck in the gelatinous matter if it was gelatinous as science predicted.

  • spatlik: You know I am right. My statement makes perfect sense. It only looks like you're weighted down on the earth because of perspective, when in reality you are floating around near the earth.

It's the same with other things you've been led to believe, like the flow of water. It only looks like water is flowing (through water falls and such) but in reality it is nanobots with the sole mission of creating the illusion of water flow that is responsible for it.

  • man you shouldn't watch too much movies, im an astrophisicist and im telling you, better yet im assuring you that water particles are no nanobots or whatever.. they are H2O molecules bounded toguether with hydrogen bonds. and you are not floating near the earth you are making contact with it which accounts for the friction we feel, if we were indeed floating arround the earth cars will keep accelerating and it would be impossible to break!!!

  • Gravity isn't real, it only looks like we are kept on the ground, but in reality we and everything else is floating free.

When you look at the moon from the right perspective it also looks like it attached to earth.

  • I think i speak for the educated part of the world when i say

    LOL NOOB

  • gravity is more real than you are. gravity is when a massive enough object bends the space-time arround itself causing objects near that interruption of space-time to be attracted towards it, man read more physics and stop watching too much Sci-Fi.

  • "gravity is more real than you are "

yeah right. I possess my own gravity AND I can make a really tasty chocolate mousse. Never seen gravity make a chocolate mousse. Seen it destroy one but never seen it make one - it wouldn't even know which ingredients to use.

  • god damn it man ur brain is fried not because you cant see a thing it doesnt mean it exists at least you can feel gravity to deduce it is present oh by the way have you put your hand in the water and got bit by a nanobot???

  • " because you cant see a thing it doesnt mean it exists "

where did I write that? sounds like you are getting personal.

  • i didnt quote hat i said that!! and no its nothing personal!! hehe

  • Ok, back from looking it up. 2 sources, 2 different answers.

But I believe the source that says IT is TRUE.

    Example given:

Mercury .... 107.7 thousand miles per hour

Pluto .... 53.7 thousand miles per hour

BTW: Us .... 67 thousand miles per hour Smooth ride at that speed, huh?

  • To clarify, she DOES state that the planets on the outside move SLOWER than the planets closer to our sun.

Meaning, that Neptune moves SLOWER than Mercury. Once again, I ask, is this really accurate?

As far as STARS orbiting a galaxy. It makes sense to me that they travel relatively at the same speed.

  • it is easy to imagine a sun orbited by planets as the "center" and main source of gravity for that system but in the case of vera rubin, what was the reason that she could assume the center (from a distant observation point-her telescope on this planet)of a galaxy as equivalent to the central location of a sun in a solar system? thanks for the help on this.

  • Oops sorry now I actually watched the video... I see now...

Is it possible that the presence of other stars around any particular star may be influencing the orbiting speed of that particular star (as opposed to dark matter)? For instance, surrounding stars would distort spacetime around any individual star, and pulling that star into that direction...

More fundamentally, what are these stars orbiting in the galaxy... a black hole?? What makes our solar system orbit around the galaxy?

  • At 4:20 she states that the planets on the outside move SLOWER than the planets closer to the sun.

This is not true, is it?

  • Yes it is... -_-

  • stars maintain their speed around centre of galaxies (correct me if I'm wrong). A reason for the existence of dark matter (I think thats correct)

  • QUOTE: "A reason for the existence of dark matter (I think thats correct)"

Do you mean a reason for the DETECTANCE of dark matter? I mean, I don't think their speeds CAUSED the dark matter. Rather, dark matter (just the name given to an elusive force) seems to influence the speed of matter. On another note, I think the original commentor was referring to planets, not stars.

Are you saying that objects (stars or planets) on the outer perimeters of orbits are just as fast???

  • sorry should read "their speed was part of the proof for the existence of dark matter"

  • Wrong, Dark matter holds galaxies toguether as clusters and it accounts for empty dark spaces between the clusters it is thought to be a gelatinous matter that can bend light arround itself so it cannot be dettected. it is thought to be present in the halos of the galaxies. Dark matter does not account for the speed of matter. but it is thought that there is a called Higgs field created by Higgs particles that the CERN labs are still trying to find using the LHC.

  • no, in fact the stars close to the supermassive black holes spin at interval speeds, they move in an eliptical orbit arround the hole ..so when the star is far from the hole it moves slower but when they are closer they tend to speed up and move amazingly fast!!!!

  • yes it is!. closer the objects the faster they move, that's why mercury needs less time to orbit round the sun than earth does..

do the experiment for yourself tie a string round your finger, on the other side tie an object now make it spin... as the srting tightens arround your finger and the string between your finger and the object becomes off less length, the object will move faster and faster untill the whole string is used up.

  • Graaaaaavvviiiiitttaationalisssttt !!! Do you know what you are doing ?? Man you are going to change the world single handedly. Like they say in my Hindu religion "From darkness lead us to light.. from falsehood lead us to the truth". Are you sure you aren't an incarnation of a Hindu God ;-)

  • lick my balls you cock, do you wanna suck gravitionalists dick, gay bastard

  • Long live Stephen Hawking

  • Thanks for uploading, I was upset at the lack of nudity, but the physics stuff was great.

  • @bgg0071 You wanted to see Hawking's nude? I love this science stuff as well mate but dude............

  • @BKKRED2008 No, he doesnt like it that youtube doesnt permit nudity in videos.

  • Thanks for posting the series - excellent matter!

  • good post

  • Thanks for posting!

  • Thanks man!

  • You rule gravitationalist.

    Best videos on youtube.

  • ty for uploading this man

  • 15 views... so perhaps noone will ever read this message (except gravitationalist) ^^

    thanks for uploading.

  • How could you be alone on this?,..No way!!Take care,.
