I have a 3G iphone and I ahve been using it to map my road bike miles. However, the problem I have is the stock battery for the phone does not last for the amount of time I go ride. Does anyone know if the solar charge part can ride in the back of my jersey and charge without direct sun on it? Basically through spandex.

There's a really nice looking solar iphone4 case called A-Solar AM 403 powerpack, BUT ITS ONLY AVAILABLE IN EUROPE. Its a full case & its thin. Anyone have a link to a review for this case ? Its too expensive to buy w/o seeing a review (60Euros not including taxes). 60Euros is $90 US dollars, + probably $20 shipping. Do a google image search for more info ... For the USA, a different solar iphone case just came out this week - Its called "Volt", from GoSolar. It needs to be reviewed as well.

Seems a shame that to charge the panel you have to put your phone face down, is there clearance from the screen to the floor via the unit's rim ?? do you have anything that also encloses the phone at the top ?

By the way, why would you qualify that it vharges the 8, 16 AND 32gb? Memory inside a unit has nothing to do with ability to charge...jeez. It's like Apple's qualification that the new iPad 2 has 10 hours battery life (under use) !!! That's how long my iPad 1 lasts.

Nice toy, but people are now buliding these things for themselves for free. We are tired of paying for someone elses idea! If you have a good idea, then it is ur duty to lead the horses to water, not charge them to sip out of your cup. You can make a functional usb solar device for 5 bucks and some old household items. Wake up, the only thing you cant produce is plastic!!

hey please reply, since it's charged by solar power, does that mean it will auto charge when left it the open exposed to the sun?? how does it work when it comes to charging the portable charge through solar?

@youronlycow The Surge uses a solar panel to collect sunlight, which it turns into electricity. If your iPhone is not fully charged, it transfers the charge to your iPhone. When your iPhone is fully charged (or when it is not inserted), the Surge transfers the charge to its internal battery. The charge from this reserve battery will transfer to your iPhone's battery as necessary.
