I'm pretty sceptical about this. Kicking and punching are done at completely different ranges, no'one falls for a dummy jab at kicking range, and kicking at punching range results in rubbish kicks, and caught legs. Could someone please explain this? Or am I right in smelling a fish?
Just like everything else, it all depends. If your opponent takes a step back in response to the jab, it might make sense to follow with something long like a side kick.
My main problem with this combo is that I don't like side kicks.
in my opinion it would be better with a round kick. side kick ain't really that effective when is comes to hurt someone.

I have a sick combo.
A flee Right Jab, A flee Left jab. Roundhouse kick to the side. Then a fast jab to the nose.
If you do this in order and fast. Youre opponent will be done.

that was a pretty snappy side kick... more snap than thrust...
