i have the ibook 4g and i have this webcam when i pluged it in my ibook didnt read it.? it doesnt read anything i plug in the usb ports. and i just got it. someone help.
@kristincandy apple comps don't read video feeds from the USB ports, they only read the firewire ports.
it's retarded and I have to say one of the biggest faults on apples side.
if you want a webcam for your ibook g4 you'll either need a USB to firewire adapter hub or you'll need to buy a firewire webcam (preferably the external isight which was made by apple for enhanced quality over the built in webcams and for those who don't have built in webcams)
Of course there are going to be some differences when you are comparing machines that are years apart. Technology changes and improves over time, so the comparison really isn't a valid one. If anything it shows that the ibook has held up well after so many years. Better than any windows laptop of the same age. The ibook is still a viable machine.

I couldn't even count how many times my friends have had their PCs pwn3d by this virus or that virus and meanwhile my Mac keeps going trouble free. I have an iBook G4 of my own its great, its 5 years old now but I have yet to encounter it being too 'old' for something people do currently.

During the PPC era the Apple processors smoked whatever PCs were using at the time but now since even Macs use Intel chips how can they claim that much of a performance edge over any other Intel based computer?
it is kinda a no brainer. The iBook was great, but the macbook smashes it in specs like that. Let the iBook name live on through the app for iPad and soon to be on the iPhone for reading books

@rotfrulez Do not get any type of powerbook. they no longer support PPC processors so iLife '09+ and Mac OS X 10.6+ cannot be installed. a MacBook would be fine. it also depends on what you want it for.

Portability-seeing that the G5 I have is a PPC anyways I wouldn't really be downgrading except for the processor. Heck if I could find someone willing to trade a decent PB 1.6 GHZ 15" for my 1.8ghz PM G5 I would just so I wouldn't have to lug this thing everytime I move, lol. The PB itself won't run iLife '09? Cause I have it on my PPC PM. And I know NO PPC's will run 10.6.
@rotfrulez If its a PPC G5 at 857mHz with 1.5 gigs of ram, and an optimal screen resolution, then it will run but iLife '10 needs the Intel Proccesor at 2.0 gHz

This video isn't entirely fair because the specs of both systems can vary greatly. The G4 can take up to 1.5 GB of RAM and any size hard drive, as well as the G4 can also include a superdrive. So the only real difference between the two is the CPU type and the webcam.
I absolutely lovee my Macbook. I have the one that came before the aluminum (the white one.) I bought it last year in January and it's amazing. I would never go back to Windows.

i gotta say... i have a macbook 2 core duo, an ibook g4 1.42, and a powermac g5 dual 2. I favor the powermac to both obviously, but in pure perfomance and reliability i trust the ibook more. The Macbook is faster, but it seems like error rate is far less.

1- 1/2 hrs but does not come with charger.screen has no dead pixels that i see and there are no scratches.computer reinstalled with tiger so when you turn it on you will get the start up video and can enter the computer in your name.
tehe at 1:04 thats where the air is sucked in, not out; therefore helping to cool the harddrive, and the air makes its way towards the processor and video card (on G3's the video card was in the corner and never got cooled..) , and then eventually the air makes its way towards where the hinge is, where the air is exhausted from the machine :)

Well iBook G4 became outdated eventually but they didn't constantly update it over and over and make it better, like Macbook. The MacBook is going to be there probalby for like a decade because of it's updates... at least a decade. Every upgrade the iBook becomes more and more crappier.
@liquiddesignsinc i still see some people in my college using iBook and it still run smoothly. Maybe it can't does heavy gamming or great graphic like new computer, but for daily use i think it can still last long. I got this iBook when i was 7th grade and i can tell you how greatful it was.
I just got mines for music production and it's working well and fast. As long as you run older software and OS X 10.3.9 - 10.4 or 10.5 you're good. I'm getting a new Mac Book Pro later this year but I will still use my older iBook.

The reason why the iBok is thicker it because the platic shell is thicker than the macbooks 0.7 mm thin case as the iBook is 0.98 mm
