  • I get the people who are dissappointed that most of his stuff is written, but he's got to be prepared. Also, many of the funniest things he comes up wth are on the spot, things he can't plan for, like at the Star Wars premier when he made his comment to the pregnant woman or the guy eating the filet of fish. Most times you can tell when it's made up right on the spot because those are the ones that tend to make him chuckle.

  • I love seeing Smigel, His expressions make the jokes even funnier. That guy was the only reason SNL was worth watching for that short period where he did the video funhouse....

  • he has his hand in triumph's butt :(

  • @Gr33nsk1ttl3 it's actually triumph's vagina, he's a hermaphodog

  • Triumph should go to Adult con.

  • ohhh the star wars skit was one of the funniest ones i laughed my ass off in that one.

  • Where can I find the original that aired on Tv? That one was just as funny as the Star Wars skit if not better.

  • I wonder how many times he has gotten punched in the face. Not the puppet the puppetier.

  • seems pointless when u see the actor

  • I've been reading alot of comments and most are disappointed that this is "scripted"...

trust me, I've done a fair share of live theatre, radio, went to U Ma for communications.

I can tell you that the majority of "improv" started somewhere with notes, an outline, or even a script.

  • SNL is only funny every third skit, and when it is, it's a safe bet that Smigel wrote it. He was largely responsible for helping Will Ferrell find his strange, unconventional comic voice.

  • he's a rip off of Ed the Sock.

  • @robvollman you do know that they are nothing alike exept the cigars

  • I really like this guy... he took a rubber dog puppet (which I found and bought myself years back - yoo hoo!!) and turned it into comic genius!!

  • Seriously? Most comedians write their material before the fact. The important part is being able to deliver the line well live, which he could.

  • @DualShooter yeah but the thing is it didnt even look like he wrote he's shit as he couldnt remember it u dont see stand up comedians coming out with a big ol peace of paper and reading from it this shit disappointed me

  • I was bummed to see he had a script with him, but now I don't care. It seems like most of it is improv-ed and he just brings a list of suggested lines anyways. He is still a master one-liner.

  • @Lonewolf1126 and if you watch the star wars video, he has way more matieral to improv off of at the star wars thing, such a higher concentration of super nerds in costumes.

  • All this time I though his humor was off the top of his head. Oh, well. As long as "Which of these buttons calls your parents to come pick you up?" was improv I'm happy. That Star Wars bit was hysterical. I was crying.

  • Well he does come up with his own stuff... he writes his own scripts!

  • Yea, I agree... I hoped he was improving, but this is just ... I don't want to call it pathetic, but for the people being "humiliated" on take #2?

    Well, he's still funny :)

  • well it looks like he thinks of jokes he can say about stuff he knows will be there or they will talk about. so if he remembers a joke he wrote down he'll look down and read it to make sure he gets it right. but it also looks like the majority of it is improv.

  • well that's odd, i always thought it was improv.

  • somehow the guy that has his hand up triumph butt I fully expected him to look like that

  • yeah that's Robert Smigel... the guy who did all the cartoons for SNL

  • your not the REAL loser that does that voice!

your a FAKE loser that does that voice!

    omg LMAO right there!

  • didnt realise this stuff was scripted! i thought this dude come up with all this on the spot.

  • of course its scripted. hes on a major network they cant afford to go unscripted. but ofcourse some of his stuff he comes up right there in the moment

  • It's not fully scripted. They go in with as many jokes as possible about the kinds of things they will be talking about, and the rest is improvised.

  • @kalam518 cant be that good

  • @kalam518 naaa I knew it was scripted because he is always laughing before he is about to say the funny parts. Check out the star wars thing and you can tell.

  • @kalam518 Alot of it is actually.

  • kinda disappointed that he really isn't that quick, that it is mostly scripted

  • He could have then said

"No kidding you're hands are too busy in your own pants watching anime porn in your parents basement"

  • Yeah, I didn't mean any offense to that dude he's hilarious and I watch him all the time--I'm a big fan--but I was just putting something out there. Really I was wondering how much the dude gets paid to that sort of thing, it seems fun.

  • heh, I haven't even watched it yet and I lol'd

  • Bad dog Bad Dog you make me laff.

  • He uses a teleprompter too. I can't help but feel the slightest bit dissappointed.

  • And I bet he have 100 comebacks prepared to that very comeback. You need to be more original than that if you want to compete with someone who do this for a living.

  • Stay in school.

  • It's Robert Smigel... he's the man...

  • That's the puppeteer that plays as Triumph. Don't worry, I know it's a dog puppet character. I'm not surprised about it too.

  • well what do you think Triumph the Dog is a real fucking dog?

  • Um, dude, of course he is.......

  • misseyeliner101 , are u brain damaged?

  • Yes, the reason being that some man is sticking his hand up Triumph's rear end.

  • Are you suprised in any way shape or form?

  • Seeing him pause to look at craploads of pre-carefully written jokes is painful. Thought the guy was just very clever / funny.

  • yeah :(

  • the one person i remember calling smigel out on this is jay leno, which is ironic as i find leno not that funny. but in smigel's defense some of the funniest comedians have 2 prepare in advance in order 2 put on a good show, whether it was johnny carson back in the day or letterman, jon stewart, or stephen colbert today.

  • OH YES!!

  • He looks like Louis CK with black hair.

  • funny u mention that, their good friends and business partners who worked together on conan, the dana carvey show, and snl. smigel even did a short film that was directed by CK that u can find on youtube, just type in robert smigel louis ck.

  • Apparently Robert (or Triumph) is a New Jersey Nets fan.

  • He's a fake??? Wha? o my gawd

  • So that's who does his voice...

  • Yep, yep. He's a New Yorker.

  • like most comics he writes a premise for a joke and when he talks to the people, the base starts it, and off the top of his head he comes up with all the lunacy. he is an actual comedic genius.

  • What you guys don't realize is that people that come up with jokes "on the spot" are usually recalling and stringing together jokes they already know. Professional comics write and rewrite their jokes to get the best reaction. It's not as easy as it looks.

  • "dying is easy, comedy is hard" - Rodney D.

  • aww wut i thought he came up wit his jokes randomly :[ but still...diz guy is freakin halarious xD

  • you guys dont get it.. he DOES know that he looks like a nerd as well. This guy picks up on nerds because its a way of makin fun of himself, a lot of comics do that.

and I think he's awersome, wheter he reads his jokes or not

  • its not about look like a nerd but behaving like one.

and ill give u a fucking list of jokes, and I bet, you WONT MAKE IT FUNNY they way smigel does it .. sorry, reading the stuff just aint enough, there has to be a certain touch to it ..

  • now i know why people look at the camera all funny when he's insulting them...

  • O wow. I thought he made up this shit on the spot......

  • Yes, you discover that it takes one to know one!

    Smigel is a comic genius!

And to the lame idiots who are disappointed that he prepares to do these bits by bringing ready made jokes:

Seriously, go enjoy an amateur night at the local bar, that's the only place where comics don't prepare their jokes in advance.

    Long Live Triumph!

Thank you Triumph, I'm a big fan. Let's go have 20 beers.

  • @ROLtheWolf Its the intelect behind the jokes that you roll on the floor for. But to write great jokes you seriously gotta be a funny guy ,and Conan has - "had" greatest staff out there.

  • lol, he looks like the nerds he makes fun of... The disappointing part is that he reads his jokes from a list...lame

  • He looks like a Star Trek nerd.

  • the funniest take trimph did was the star wars one

  • SPOCK!??!?

  • i never knew what the guy actually looked like

  • i never knew that was him! wow thanks...

  • kickass to see him behind the scenes. thanks.

  • this is raw footage. it's called editing.

  • 0:43 ...did somebody just fuckin say my name?

  • Robert Smigel is a genius

  • He most certainly is...for me to poop on!! :) ..Sorry, Bob..lol

  • he's a genius :D

  • I prefer it when you don't see Smiggel

  • Robert Smigel? Wow, that guy is behind some of the funniest crap I've ever seen in my life! He was even in Happy Gilmore as a SIDE project.

  • I have the biggest crush on him...

    WEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • you shouldn't have a crush on somebody if you're married, tsk tsk

  • LOL!!! Just because I have already ordered doesn't mean I can't still read the menu!!

    WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

  • Wow, that's kind of weird seeing the guy with the puppet actually on his arm. I mean, they don't show that on TV.

  • for those of you who don't know who it is, that's Robert Smigel, he's a writer for SNL, he created TV Funhouse..it isn't just some random guy with a dog on his arm lol

  • Superman as a competitive eater. LMAO

  • the guy looks like howie mandell in the early 90's, but i love him, hes extremely funny, and owns fags verbally

  • You know that room smells like milk dud farts!

  • leave it to nerds to turn this into a debate...

  • Im pretty sure its mixed with scripted and improvised events.. Like when Triumph dissed the Star Wars guys, thats probably improvised because it really isnt that hard to come up with something insulting to say to them ^^

  • Ha! Who is he to make fun of the nerds. The guy who does Triumph looks like a nerdy geek himself.

  • it seems to me that he still improvises, but uses the script when he can't think of anything in the moment. a great performer must come prepared.

  • Seeing him in action ruins it.

  • ruins it 'cause he's not good at all, if he were good, it wouldn't ruint would it?

  • Did you really expect the guy to remember everything he ever wrote, of course there is a script and maybe a second take. Doesn't make it any less funny.

  • It has the good side effect of reminding the person that it's just about the humor, not about making them feel bad.

  • ur completly right

  • Couldn't agree more.

  • i spect him to remember, yeah.

it does make it less funy.

  • So what you expect, has to be right? Isn't that a bit spoiled?

But I disagree very much. It doesn't make it less funny. It makes it normal. No one in the world can remember that much for so long.

To think he could is a bit naive imo.

  • wtf he read a script

  • yeah dude, he aint that good, he's just a regular tv-worker

  • I wish I never saw him.....

  • this dude has script for his text?

  • oh man he's got a script, he lost 90% of the points

  • yeah but he is the person that wrote it so he gains back that 90%

  • his script is just piece of huge shit, he repeats jokes from other comic-con'. It aint original no more

  • Well he could have no script and then you lose 1/2 the humor. What would you rather?

  • i'd rather not see him repeat once and over again the same stupid joke that he cannot say correctly, making the person wait 'til he finally finishs. And by the way, his jokes aint as old ones, he should think about retiring

  • So what if the jokes have been used before? I couldn't give a damn if the jokes are old, simple, shallow or childish. I found them funny while watching and surely that is a good thing in your books? That other people have got enjoyment out of a piece of entertainment?

  • Damn, that guy is an amazing comedian!! He's god!

I regret a bit seeing who he is though... :(

  • i know, i was all excited to see what he looked like, and it just....runied it!

  • Seeing the actual guy is disillusioning.

  • Triumph is a PUPPET?!?!?!?!?!

  • Triumph friggin' rules!!

  • saw this is Conan last night...HILARIOUS!

  • yea that shit was funny.

"i think your power is to kill erections"

omg that one was my favorite

  • What station is that show on and what time? I wanted to see it.

  • NBC: weeknights from 12:35-1:35AM Est.

  • TV Funny House! SNL misses Smigel

  • Hey, that's cool. Thanks for uploading that. I've always wondered who did the voice. How funny that he comes up with the jokes in advance; kind of kills the illusion, but still cool.

  • Man, Robert Smigel is such a bad ass.

  • Great behind the scenes stuff. Thanks for sharing. Very enjoyable.

  • You are welcome! Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • Do you have anymore? Me and my friend were right in front of him, but he was doing a different act. He was making fun of some green puppet thing and some cat girl. We were right behind that girl, it was so funny to see him.

  • Sadly, that was all I got. But thanks for watching and commenting!

  • I was right next to the cat girl. It was funny when Triumph gave that guy a wadgie.

  • i couldve sworn he was going to joke us cause he kept looking at us, especially when he was making fun of her about picking up boys or whatever. I have the film, so I'll upload it later, but I was hoping someone else would have it so I could see myself haha.

  • I didn't know all his insults were scripted.

  • Wow harrisonm, I think I was standing right next to you through most of that. Your video started about when I got there and ended just after I left. What do you think the chances are that this ends up on Conan?

  • Let's hope it gets on the air! I think the Spiderman bit was pretty funny. :)

  • hi hey just a question, im from mexico and im a big fan of triumph my question is, is he still appearing with conan or in tv? i hope he's still performing hes amazing and funny...

for me to poop on hahah XD

  • Robert Smigel is a genius! Cool video!
