I think that the greatness of this film is measured by the emotion that it elicits from the viewer. Even though I've seen this movie a thousand times and I know exactly what will happen, this scene still gets me every time. when i watch this scene, it makes me want to have a guy like carl, and a relationship like ellie and carl.. simple yet very powerful love.. :) its very rare nowadays.. :( this really shows that Carl loves Ellie so much, and even though Ellie passed away, he continued his promise *cross your heart* and Ellie showed that Carl was her greatest adventure.. and that shows that life isn't always what we wanted, but try to enjoy every bit of it.. in our own ways with someone that we love :)

The animation has truly come a LONG long way from its humble beginnings, and watching this, being an artist, I pay attention to that. The storyline, ooh... Such beauty... This along with the montage of Carl's and Ellie's life are by far the most emotional parts of the movie. The combination of the seemingly anticlimatic goal to reach the falls, the irony behind the book, the scene's aesthetics, lack of dialogue, and especially the music make this particular 2 minute scene stronger and more impacting than what most romance stories attempt and fail to do in 2 hours. Pixar Animation studios is a guru of computer generated animation.

I have to say that when I first saw this scene, it was the quietest moment I've ever exerienced in the cinema. No one, not even the chatty children in front of me said a word.

Mind you, there was one instance of loud sniffling that turned a few heads... it was me.

There is no greater film than one that reaches out to it's audience and Up definately did that for me. It showed me that life is for living, and friends, family and love are more valuable than material possesions.
