I think that the greatness of this film is measured by the emotion that it elicits from the viewer. Even though I've seen this movie a thousand times and I know exactly what will happen, this scene still gets me every time. It's as beautiful a scene (And movie) the first time I saw it, to the billionth time I will see it.
Every movie you guys have made is a masterpiece, a work of art that appeals to everyone, regardless of age or movie preference in general. So basically, YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME
There's not a single regret for me crying over this masterpiece. It makes you laugh, it makes you cry, simply captures the heart! What more could we ask for? UP! 2 that's what we should ask for, or not :'')
when i watch this scene, it makes me want to have a guy like carl, and a relationship like ellie and carl.. simple yet very powerful love.. :) its very rare nowadays.. :( this really shows that Carl loves Ellie so much, and even though Ellie passed away, he continued his promise *cross your heart* and Ellie showed that Carl was her greatest adventure.. and that shows that life isn't always what we wanted, but try to enjoy every bit of it.. in our own ways with someone that we love :)
Only just watched this film tonight....but 3 times tonight!
Fantastic film, and yes I let buckets out during this scene and the bit at the start too...Rare for an animated film to get such an emotional nerve, but everything: music, storyline, the pictures themselves just hits you
Out of all the Disney & Pixar animated stories I have seen, this is the BEST one! I wish I could thank the person(s) personally for writing the story. Wonderfully done work. Thank You!
@raphaelmartinsdf Well said! That's the thing this scene wants to show! The biggest adventure of one's life is to live with each other till the end! I love this movie very much. Up and WALL-E are both my favorites.
Couldn't agree more. My Grandpa saw this and said he loved it. Like Carl, he is a widower. I thought it was cool how the hero was an old man like him.
I think it's absolutely amazing that Pixar managed to take a medium that most people had superficial feelings for and can make movies like this that bring people to tears. It's a real achievement.
This movie, as a whole, was absolutely touching to me. The way it was presented, God, so beautiful... The animation has truly come a LONG long way from its humble beginnings, and watching this, being an artist, I pay attention to that. The storyline, ooh... Such beauty... I was amazed at how easily this movie stirred my thoughts and tapped my emotions.
I know, I feel the exact same way! The storyline was so beautifully thought-out and the animations have really progressed since the days of Toy Story. Everything was so beautiful, imaginative and wonderful!
Every single time I watch this, my heart aches a bit and, of course, I cry. It's an absolutely beautiful moment, that deserves a place of honor in the history of movie making.
Wow talk about story telling, with in the first 15 minutes of this movie with just pictures and no dialog Pixar had everyone in tears. They managed to put a whole movie's worth of story in 15 minutes with no words.
i was crying throughout the entire film, the graphics were so beautiful and the storyline was touching, i enjoyed every second of this movie. pixar just keeps knocking them out of the ballpark.
This along with the montage of Carl's and Ellie's life are by far the most emotional parts of the movie. The combination of the seemingly anticlimatic goal to reach the falls, the irony behind the book, the scene's aesthetics, lack of dialogue, and especially the music make this particular 2 minute scene stronger and more impacting than what most romance stories attempt and fail to do in 2 hours. Pixar Animation studios is a guru of computer generated animation.
I have to say that when I first saw this scene, it was the quietest moment I've ever exerienced in the cinema. No one, not even the chatty children in front of me said a word.
Mind you, there was one instance of loud sniffling that turned a few heads... it was me.
There is no greater film than one that reaches out to it's audience and Up definately did that for me. It showed me that life is for living, and friends, family and love are more valuable than material possesions.
you can always tell great animators if a 2 minute scene can make you cry with no dialogue, I love this film great job....this has just inspired me to finish working on my 3d course work today :D
Going to see this movie was the first time in quite a while my mom and I had spent some real time together. It takes a lot for a movie to make me cry, but frankly, we were both blubbering during this movie, especially at this part. Thank you so much for all you do, Pixar!
