  • Things with great mass create energy when accelerated at enormous speeds gain more mass, so intensify gravity which bends space and the denser something s the faster time travels but the faster something travels the slower time becomes equaling out each other but when something is bent you would make sure it was bent where we wanted to go because smaller objects attract each other I'm not sure if i made sense but I think I did. I hope this makes sense and helps some people.

  • I really don't care how advanced the antimatter-drive propulsion technology gets, there's no way I'd step onto a ship to take a supposedly 60-year-long round-trip to Andromeda, no matter how much the Earth is supposed to age in the process. Not even for 1/00th of the trip in 6 trip-months. Great test for GR enthusiasts though. I can almost see it now ... All aboard who's going aboard! ... but with enough unhealed extrapolated global warming hitting me on the head ..., well, you just never know.

  • wow nice comments if could say stuff like that reading your guys comments was sweeeeeeeeeeeetttttttttttttttt

  • Couldnt hear a thing!!! :(

  • This is my Physics prof...

  • the cientific comunity ad a colective orgasm when they discover a diferente geometry of that of Euclides and sense then 100 year past we still try to push them in our best physical theory. now we have to listen for 2450 years a lot of rubish... maybe Einstein will be the next Aristoteles ??

  • @lcabosa Einstein has been proven wrong on several things, he was not perfect, but his relativity theory has been tested and is one of the correct things, time dilation has been confirmed to exist in an experiment done in the 60s, using 2 atomic clocks, one on a plane, and one on the ground. many of his other theories have also been confirmed in the lab. his energy-mass equivalnce theory also is real, though scientists still disagree about the exact meaning of the equation E=mc2

  • @VERGIS92 hello, i know that relativity is "proved", the question is; why mechanical systems change their configuration when in movement ? E=mc2 is real, but when we give to a photon the ability to produce gravitational force by is own presence something is wrong. theres deep conection in nature that the current theory of force carriers and camps do not adress. txs.ps. fuc strings and matematicians they are starting to look like some heird pitagorian sect.

  • @lcabosa Relativity is much more complex than shown in documentaries, and high school, but it appears that time dilation is caused by the curvature of space time, gravity and relative moton of systems of mass is what causes it. So in effect all clocks, and biological organisms sense the rate of time, even digital clocks deep down are affected, the GPS system was designed on relativity theory, it's a practical application of it.

without Einstein GPS could only work using geostationary sats

  • @VERGIS92 time dilation is caused by moviment or gravitational field, curvature of space is an interpertation.

  • @lcabosa Actually GPS could not work without relativity at all, even if you use geostationary satelites which are in fixed point relative to the ground! because time dilation still occurs, even f you place one clock on north pole, and the other clock on the equator (both clocks at sea level), they still undergo time dilation by many μS per day, as the clock on the equator goes around much faster than the one on the north pole. GPS cannot accept error more than 30 nS, let alone 30μS

  • @VERGIS92 starting to think u eat a clock (o:

  • @lcabosa Einstein critics and non believers claim that the 'twin paradox' is false and that relativity doesn't exist, citing that the earth also 'moves' at light spped relative to the leaving spaceship... but the twin-earth mass system is different to the moving twin-spaceship mass system, what's your opinion on this?

Sure there are clever critics who may spot mistakes and inconsistencies, but most content is written by people, even physicists with little understanding of what they teach

  • @VERGIS92 the problem with einstein is not the numerical solutions, the problem is the interpertation, nowdays we have another step in the understanding of nature, quantic mechanics, in cosmological studies of the gravity becouse we assume the time-space distorcion we now have dark matter, dark energy and some more dark rabbits, just becouse we are reluctante in give up general relativity and the base of this construction.

  • @VERGIS92 + every once in a while clocks on communication satellites have to be adjusted or we'd be getting TV signals a tad too soon. They whiz round the Earth so far & so fast this affects them! It's real alright! For a fascinating time, at Youtube go to The Real Time Machine. We're much further along with a practical application than is realized! Black Professor named Ron Mallet has workable, affordable plans for a table top time tunnel no one with knowledge in this area is laughing at!

  • Suppose the lensing mass is transparent to neutrinos, neutrinos can take the shortest path straight through.

Another thing about neutrinos - a stellar core-collapse neutrino burst supposedly can precede the photon burst by hours or days. A website called "The MACRO gravitational collapse page" mentions this. Seems to me at first glance to be evidence of superluminal neutrinos, although facinating alternative explanations are numerous and quite often ingenious.

  • i swear sometimes this is why our species is dying you cant use a percent of brain power everyone to damn worried on whats the latest style or whats on the tv instead of learning people stop learning at a certain age they just degenerate slowly if you were to read enstiens notes you would learn that a lot of travel and technology we have today is cause of people like him if we were all to think the way most of us think in the box we would be f@#$ thanks to people thinking in the impossible

  • @zabulon1987

    Unfortunately you are correct.

My generation is the dumbest yet

  • Lol nonsense video. Einstein was full of shit

  • @1stTrillionaire Obviously every living scientist since that day the theory got established too, huh?

  • @peronkop What you want the answer to be genius.

  • @peronkop what ever you want the answer to be genius

  • Why, if gravity bends spacetime, do people say gravity bends light?

Here's another - what if a large gravitational lensing mass is partly transparent, say it has a large hole in its center, then the shortest path of light from the lensed object would be straight through the lensing mass, but there would still be an Einstein ring around the lensing mass - so which path is the true geodesic, the one through the Einstein ring, or the shorter path through the center?

  • @CACBCCCU Both, according to Feynman. For more on his 'photon probability amplitude' work, check out the "Four Lectures From The University Of Auckland" series. They're bloody excellent. ;)

  • @zarathustra2k1 I think I can appreciate your answer, having read a bit of Feynman, but all his partial probability photon paths are not shortest paths, so it seems I am back to asking whether space is bent by gravity or is it just the light that is bent. I wanted to see the Feynman lecture series you mentioned, but it's not showing up on youtube search.

  • @CACBCCCU Was funnin' there kinda. Sad geek-joke.

According to General Relativity™, spacetime is warped by mass - end of story. Everything travelling through it, including photons, must adhere. In the Standard Model™, The light is packetised & again merely following said gravitational curvature. Here the two seem to agree. :P

PS The lectures are up on Usenet - as long as you have >160 days retention. I'd happily email you the NZB if that helps - or I can up them to Demonoid.

    Cheers.

  • @zarathustra2k1 Thanks for the information on the lecture. I'll take a look at it later if I can find the time. Still looking for a good answer to the question about a ring-shaped gravity lens, the straight path through the ring still seems to be the shortest. Maybe it's more a quantum mechanics type of question than a GR type of question.

  • @zarathustra2k1 Maybe the effective length of a GR geodesic has to be small, at least compared to the entire path of gravity-lensed light. Visualizing a light beam following a gravitationally-curved sheet, my understanding of GR and SR at the moment is that the sheet's vertical displacement has no real distance associated with it, so it does not slow light, but still redirects the beam, and there is a blue-to-red shift when going down-to-up. Straight through seems to remain the fastest way.

  • @CACBCCCU ...except that there is no 'straight through' in this instance. That'd be akin to the photons 'jumping _off_ the rubber sheet' - or travelling through hyper- (or warp-) space if you like.

    I think... :P

  • @zarathustra2k1 No matter how one chooses to visualize it, with sheets or not, there's nothing to bend the light in 3D space if it takes a straight path toward the center of a ring-shaped gravity-lens instead of taking the curved path around it. All the gravity well would do to the straight beam is blue-shift it before it enters the ring and equally red-shift it back afterward. So, the straight path in space remains the shortest path in space, as it always has been. See, nature can be so nice!!

  • @zarathustra2k1 I would agree that the shortest path for light in the vicinity of a gravitational lens typically has to be path with a bend.

Now gravitons, on the other hand, apparently wouldn't bend in space by gravity, but that's a seperate heretical topic, I know.

  • @CACBCCCU Gravitons? Next you'll be telling me that there's such things as Tachyons or, heaven forfend, Higgs Bosons... :P

  • @CACBCCCU Gravitons? Next you'll be telling me that there's such things as Tachyons or, heaven forfend, Higgs Bosons... ehe

  • @zarathustra2k1 I think all science could get from finding a Higgs would be a chance to better understand the universe we can see by telescope. Like most people, I can enjoy Hubble photos but I cannot relate to particle tracks. I try to avoid tachyons, if allowed then hopefully not with the raising of macroscopic causality breaks, but to me it seems to be built into the concept of gravitons not bending along with light. That does not seem to necessarily violate causality. I suppose, anyway.

  • google Doe's Account, its mindblowing

  • I just needed to say that I don't think a single person that posted to this page know what the hell they are talking about. You can not learn relativity by watching a 10 minute lecture. Try 4-12 years of actual studying and maybe you'll have a handle on the intelligence behind it.

  • Interesting lecture. Thank you for posting it.

  • As per my understanding, this man has failed to comprehend what he is trying to teach. The space-time 'is' warped not in the shape of a balloon or earth or melon, but it is warped under the influence of gravity that completely changes the shape of the affected space-time 'area'. I am not expert on Relativity but I sure as hell know this man got it totally wrong!

  • shutup you dickhead it is right what he said

  • Inability to read is a serious handicap. Read the first four words I wrote. After that read how I put forth a reasoning, unlike any abuses that you did. I would suggest you start by learning to read.

  • Nonsens and hoax. Take the ART - dgl for the limit of Newton and you will see the hoax: It is the same as Newton! And who is c ? The ART calculates with unlimit speed of gravity as Newton!

  • This lwcture shows only some observations and consequences but not the basic postulates of the theory which is very confusing. I wouldn't understand anything he said without knowing the basics of the theory.

  • I'm thinking about doing physics at uni in 2010. This idiot man is putting me off a bit

  • I cant understand anything!

  • Because he is not articulation. Idiot.

  • Nice grammar.Fool.

  • link or gtfo.

  • @megadethqc Perhaps one of the most honest, as well as one of the funniest, comments that I have read on YouTube. I am sure that almost everyone can attest to your sentiment. Keep at it, and it will all begin to make sense...

  • Im sick of professors , teachers or who ever trying to explain this use this same basic image of einsteins theory and not realy explain that you cant get a real picture of the concept......I listened to this with no sound and im sure he diant explain it properly....

  • If the teachers were really so good that they could explain it to students completely clearly, they would not be teachers but physicists.

  • So this is part of a regular class? how far into the semester/quarter or whatever is this? cuz i couldnt just sit there and listen 2 him go on id be asking 10 questions after every sentence haha

  • what goes around comes around? Unless...

  • sounds like I should go to bed, or get some real sound sleep while listening to him lecture.....

  • relativity theory is not the topic for lay men

  • dude i dont fucking understand what he's saying

  • i hope it is me who is the slow one but this lecturer does not sound worthwhile listening to.

  • fuk dude i cant understand or see the shit!!!!!!!!!!!

  • haha this tomanyasses guy seems to be really pissing people off!

  • asshole

  • same t u.

  • Lol actually gravity is an illusion. Gravity is the bending of space-time. So a piece of matter like earth makes a bend in space by been placed within space and that bend in space is what makes gravity. That is why a black hole's gravity is so intense because it is bending space to such an extent so that space is travelling almost like a funnel rather than just having space merely curving around it like it does when a planet is in place. So the greater the bend in space the stronger the gravity

  • wow what an amazing and well thoughtout reply tomanyasses. Are you retarded? And yeh that was a rheotorical question xD As for been a dork the word offends me greatly you worthless, ignorant and narrow thinking faggot =D

  • You are correct! You get a cookie! Tomy gets to go back to school....

  • Just a cookie? How about a piece of your sweet ass as well

  • Sweet? More like Hairy....

  • "im professore ass head"

    wow

  • O_o some teacher you are.

And what kind of name is "to many ***es"?

  • bent space is the what gravity is dumbfuck. a mass in space bends spacetime to give the illusion of gravity

  • really? seeing as you have 6 thumbs down and 3 ppl telling you that your wrong .the only idiot here is your faggot ass

  • Very informing. What class is this by the way?

  • this space bending is not compatible with what mass realy is

  • I agree with you. People are brain washed. Space is a concept humans invented to quantify matter as much as time is a concept invented to quantify velocity or cycles.

  • wrong, ass head
