  • item timing is not hard, it's simple math...

  • @noobyvids3

    2+2 is simple math

  • @noobyvids3 it's not the process of doing the math that makes it hard, it's being able to time both mega and red armor (whether it was you or your enemy who picked it up) while focusing on anything else that may be happening - where your enemy is going, do you have good positioning, weapons, etc.

  • @MCHanzz That's because you listen to the sounds of steps and item/weapon pickups. It's easy to know where the oponent is.

  • @Czchar Strafe jumping isn't really that hard. I learned it in maybe a month (though in Warsow, not Quake, but they're similar). Much harder is to learn timing items, using weapons and using the appropriate weapons depending on the situation.

  • fome

  • ggggggggggggg

  • Halo or this game guys?

  • @fuckjohnboy halo 3 mlg was probably the best console shooter for competitive play but quake is much better

  • BTW Shane 'rapha' Hendrixson is "cocked-eye", probably from too much FPS gaming..

  • @Czchar the biggest thing is strafe-jumping and knowing when to run away from a fight. Being able to time the respawns of armor, health, and weapons in your head is important too.

  • 00:05 l;o.llloo;oolloololooloo

  • Whoever recorded this needs to upgrade their comp to handle Fraps + Quake 3. Your ATI Radeon 9700 Pro & Intel Pentium 4 isnt cutting it anymore.

  • @AalexX136 It's more of a hard drive issue to be honest, i have a beast pc, but fraps lags out exactly like this now, never used to.

  • QL Rocks!

Ah this reminds me of my old quake3 days :D

  • nice man watch my profile #profile/summary/lexus2k

  • quake is the best fps, i use to halo 3 over 3000 ranked matches, now i am hooked on quake live and its just dominating everything else

  • gg. glad they removed dm6 from the map pool for this year though. getting boring as fuck to watch.

and i really do wish rapha would work on his accuracy.

  • boring match

  • Dah dah dah dah dah

  • DaHanG's plasma between 5:30 and 6:30 is really nice

  • This is what I call pro-gaming! Fuck Halo, Fuck MW2, FUCK CONSOLES! FPS BELONGS TO PC!

  • @123phobia123 Consoles are nice for backup like for different fun.

  • Nice movement, but seriously rapha cant aim THAT well.

  • @BlairParker88 Well, he is the world champion :D

  • @BlairParker88 good player vs good player = less accuracy than a good player vs bad player

  • go promode or go home, this crap is to slow.

  • @malekizzle . it may be slower, but its also more mind-game heavy. Whereas promode is just aim aim aim. In Quake live you win based on the decisions you make, not based on your LG accuracy.

  • @malekizzle

I like it. It means brains play a big part in the game and not who has the better aim. Watching CPMA or something similar like painkiller gets boring since all you see is players rushing around and getting into fights. Rinse and repeat. Here, we see players controlling items and players trying to break that control by railing or using position to deal massive damage.

  • @malekizzle how the fuck could you play this game any faster? I can't even see it!

  • @grinick look up "CPMA done by Vo0".

  • @malekizzle and what happend when the promode community got to have a tournament at dreamhack? along came vq3 player fox and made short work of them.

  • i see when player accelerate very rapidly when they are bout to bhop how do u do that ??

  • @antiunis Its called a circle jump

  • Ich hab "Rapha" heute live auf der CeBIT gesehen. :-) Nicer Zocker. :-D

  • @Runkuz

what? I am sure this is basically like quake 3.

some coding might be different and the lg isn't as awesome as q3. but skills of the players doesn't change much

  • Zero4 is still playing. Not sure but I think I've seen Aim involved with QL aswell.

  • @Runkuz

The players here are forced into a sort of boring, low-risk style of play, probably because iD Software thinks that these ten-minute duels are somehow more fit for prime-time. o_O

It doesn't leave any room for mistakes/comebacks, like the 15 minute duels of old!

If you watch carefully, rapha executes some crucial skill-- including his meta-game, i.e. player prediction, and capitalizing on an advantage.

If I had my way, they'd move to 12 or 13 minute matches as a sort of golden-mean.

  • nice spawn Rapha.

  • shittiest initial spawns ever?

  • the concept of the game is simple but the execution is hard as fuckKKkkkkkkkkkk

control the armors and the health, and pick and choose when ur ready to fight...and hit crucial shots when they come available...

thank god i started playing this while i wait to play CS again...good challenge.

  • This was so much better to watch live. o_o

  • I love to watch both these guys play, GJ Rapha.

  • yeah its hard but soon you learn basic circle and strafe jumping and it becomes 2nd nature. it's one of the reasons why the game is so fun, because you can become very good at just moving around the map, like you're controlling a vehicle or something, doing a lot of tricks. then on top of that, you of course have to fight other players. it's quite a crazy game.

  • Well, they had 10 years of practice (Q3 -> QL)

  • Not many of today's Quake pros started Q3 the year it came out.

DaHang for example hardly ever played Q3.

  • orly? I know, but you can pick up a thing or two from the other quake games.

  • HOW??!?!?

  • 5:10

  • Yeah i agree at 5:10 how the crap he reacted in a tenth of a second???

  • Because rapha was anticipating it. That's why he switched to rail before DaHang was in his view. He wanted to be ready to land that shot in case DaHang was on the 2nd floor.

  • lol yeah,, and because he saw dahang running up the stairs the moment rapha uses the jump pad up :)

  • he heard Dahang running in the area in front of him. from the sound, he knew almost exactly where he was, and then with his fantastic aim that pros tend to have, made the final adjustments

sound is unbelievably important in Quake. your ears are more important than your eyes, as was clearly demonstrated here.

  • rapha is beast

  • this game is bomb i am new at it but it rules

  • These pro matches on Youtube are so much fun to watch!

  • @JohnnyK98k agree

  • @JohnnyK98k yeah you got that Right!!

  • lol at 5:35

  • The map knowledge demonstrated by these players in this match is a true testament to their skill.

  • how is quakelive doing anyway? is it a huge success or not so much?

  • quality is good, but the video itself is rather laggy, thanks for the upload!

  • No higher quality avaible? Cruel to watch.

  • Gotta wait for it to finish processing.
