@noobyvids3 it's not the process of doing the math that makes it hard, it's being able to time both mega and red armor (whether it was you or your enemy who picked it up) while focusing on anything else that may be happening - where your enemy is going, do you have good positioning, weapons, etc.
@Czchar Strafe jumping isn't really that hard. I learned it in maybe a month (though in Warsow, not Quake, but they're similar). Much harder is to learn timing items, using weapons and using the appropriate weapons depending on the situation.
@Czchar the biggest thing is strafe-jumping and knowing when to run away from a fight. Being able to time the respawns of armor, health, and weapons in your head is important too.
@malekizzle . it may be slower, but its also more mind-game heavy. Whereas promode is just aim aim aim. In Quake live you win based on the decisions you make, not based on your LG accuracy.
I like it. It means brains play a big part in the game and not who has the better aim. Watching CPMA or something similar like painkiller gets boring since all you see is players rushing around and getting into fights. Rinse and repeat. Here, we see players controlling items and players trying to break that control by railing or using position to deal massive damage.

Is this the best the quake scene has to offer these days? Man, I miss the "good old days" when the top players actually had some mad skillz. Just try searching for players like Zero4, Lexer, CZM, unkind, Aim... etc. etc.
The players here are forced into a sort of boring, low-risk style of play, probably because iD Software thinks that these ten-minute duels are somehow more fit for prime-time. o_O
It doesn't leave any room for mistakes/comebacks, like the 15 minute duels of old!
If you watch carefully, rapha executes some crucial skill-- including his meta-game, i.e. player prediction, and capitalizing on an advantage.
If I had my way, they'd move to 12 or 13 minute matches as a sort of golden-mean.
yeah its hard but soon you learn basic circle and strafe jumping and it becomes 2nd nature. it's one of the reasons why the game is so fun, because you can become very good at just moving around the map, like you're controlling a vehicle or something, doing a lot of tricks. then on top of that, you of course have to fight other players. it's quite a crazy game.
Because rapha was anticipating it. That's why he switched to rail before DaHang was in his view. He wanted to be ready to land that shot in case DaHang was on the 2nd floor.
he heard Dahang running in the area in front of him. from the sound, he knew almost exactly where he was, and then with his fantastic aim that pros tend to have, made the final adjustments
sound is unbelievably important in Quake. your ears are more important than your eyes, as was clearly demonstrated here.
item timing is not hard, it's simple math...

@MCHanzz That's because you listen to the sounds of steps and item/weapon pickups. It's easy to know where the oponent is.

Whoever recorded this needs to upgrade their comp to handle Fraps + Quake 3. Your ATI Radeon 9700 Pro & Intel Pentium 4 isnt cutting it anymore.

@AalexX136 It's more of a hard drive issue to be honest, i have a beast pc, but fraps lags out exactly like this now, never used to.

what? I am sure this is basically like quake 3.
some coding might be different and the lg isn't as awesome as q3. but skills of the players doesn't change much

the concept of the game is simple but the execution is hard as fuckKKkkkkkkkkkk
control the armors and the health, and pick and choose when ur ready to fight...and hit crucial shots when they come available...
thank god i started playing this while i wait to play CS again...good challenge.

Not many of today's Quake pros started Q3 the year it came out.
DaHang for example hardly ever played Q3.
