For the third prize, they should bid at least what they think the minimum price is plus the number of steps left. He has 21 steps and bid 30. Certainly he didn't think that ice cream maker was 9. If he thought the actual price was 30, he should have thought that the lowest possible price was something like 25, and added 21 to that making the bid 46. He would have been off by 1 instead of 15. Also, the prizes go up in value and the cosmetics were 33...

I wonder why they would only sometime mention the airline and/or hotel for the trip? Sometimes they woudln't mention it at all and I wondered if they were just going to sleep in a box for a week. :)

Easy answer to that. Sometimes, hotels and airlines (gasp) DON'T want to be on TPIR, which means they have to buy airline tickets and/or a week at the hotel instead of getting them for free in exchange for a plug. So if you see a trip being plugged on a game show and no mention is made of an airline/hotel, it means the show had to buy the trip.
