i always say that EPMD were ahead of their time with the samples they chose. this Joe Cocker sample was slept on back then but fast forward 6 years later in '95 "California Love" is a big hit. i honestly believe if EPMD waited a few years they would have been huge outside of rap, but theyre still rap legends & pioneers

How are people gonna change the definition of what a 80s baby is all of a sudden when i was growing up in school they called us that it never applied to music untill jayz said "Im a 80s baby mastered reganomics" but never the less agree 2 disagree
@yungkr Listen to Eric Sermons so called freestyle on (Tim Westwood TV) on Youtube. He referred to himself as a 80s baby. EPMD first album "Strickly Business "came out in '88. JAyZ first was 89. Its not the year you were born. Its the year of your first widespread music. You never heard nobody call themselves a 60s baby in HipHop.( Barley a 70s baby but we know they' re out there.
Why did K-Solo misspell bird. This line is crazy funny. He said "I'm from C-I-L-I-F-L-Y like a B-R-I-D in the S-K-Y". What is C-I-L-I? and I didn't know a B-R-I-D flew in the sky. Maybe he meant "I'm from CALI FLY like a BIRD in the SKY". K-Solo should stay away from spelling if he can't do it. Those are simple words. My 7 yr old caught that too.
@jfactor007 Never noticed that until now? Kinda' weird... his whole deal is spelling, yet he spelled "bird" incorrectly? Not a big deal though, cos' he's K-S-O-L-O ;o)

@onehungblackboy dont be surprised but u come close to my top 3...I have KRS, Rakim and Kane!! then Kool G rap and Nas....i'm from the golden era kid!! Never judge but much respect to ya for those three....I always though Tupac was overrated!
@MrMorningside125 pac wasnt overrated but he was simple my generation doesnt read as much as urs did,so pac was easier to understand on the other hand Rakim will lose u if ur vocab is limited!!Jay z now hes waaay overrated!!
@onehungblackboy True! K-Solo would rape Jigga mercilessly. KRS-1 would out think him and De La Soul would slaughter him for originality. They're just the first three on the list. BIG, BIG L, Redman of EPMD era, Keith Murray, God don't get me started on Jigga. The Hip Pop Generation don't have a clue. No Disrespect to Jigga but his place is certainly not the greatest rapper alive let alone challenging for the greats. LL Cool J of Wallking with a Panther era.... I'd better stop now.
@vdotme That was a joke right. K-Solo is super wack. DMX endedhis career. You are severly delusional. Jay z is by far the greatest alive. Jay z at his worst would destroyKsolo, de la soul, and ll fool j put together. Thenly sensible shit you said was about KRS one. Krs is the only one who could pose a threat to hova. This nigga said k solo.LMAO! Ksolo is on eof the worst rappers ever right p there with vanilla ice and mc hammer. You need to get your head examined.
@vdotme BIG and Krs one is the only to people you named who could fuck with Jay z's catalogue. I could tell you probably never listened to a Jayz album in its entierity. JayZ 1996-2003 kills everything except Krs One 1986-1993. Rakim now that is who is overrated. LL cool j is a bum who was murdered by canibus and ll was also his generations version of drake , a love song making corn ball. Yes I was there back then and unlike you I have a long term memory. You are a bitter old man.
@onehungblackboy Really? You funny. Pac was waaay overrated and given a pass on lyricism because he was shot one million times.Pac is the most overrated ever right up there with lil wayne. Rakim was boring and his flows are limited.Jayz is more of a balanced rapper than him and has a waaay better catlogue of classic albums then rakim. Rakim's career lacked stamina. He is not even the best of his time. KRS lasted way longer and had way better albums.
@MrMorningside125 I agree, I think Tupac was overrated too. KRS, Rakim, Kane, G Rap, Nas, Biggie, Slick Rick, Ice Cube and Big Pun are all actually than Pac better in my opinion because they're either more complex lyricists or better storytellers and I prefer all of their flows over his. I still bump Pac's shit though cause' he was good. But not the greatest I don't think... Rakim or KRS will always hold that title for me (I can't decide which, I'm split lol) and B.I.G. is my fave to listen to.
Solo went IN!!!!!! Straight blazed this shit.. I miss the good ol days of Hip Hop... Peace to everyone that came up in that Era, along with myself., and peace to the New Generation, that embrace and preserve that Real, Raw, Hip Hop shit.
nothing's new under the sun. some people still think the roots are the only rap group to use live instruments. i guess no one ever heard of boo-ya tribe or the beastie boys.
610dirtbikr Why would you say that if you have no idea This is EPMD they are a great rap group that alot of us grew up listening to and loved its Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith and they are still around they were making music from 1986-1993 1997-1999

The Dogg Pound did this beat with the song with the same name and Dr Dre and Tupac used this beat for the California Love song

The original song was put out by Joe Cocker, it's called "Woman to Woman"
Tha Dogg Pound covered Knick Knack Paddy Whack for the album :In The Begging There Was Rap" a tribute to Raps forfathers.
