Methane Releases from Arctic Shelf May Be Much Larger and Faster Than Anticipated

NSF - March 4, 2010.

Research results, published in the March 5 edition of the journal Science, show that the permafrost under the East Siberian Arctic Shelf, long thought to be an impermeable barrier sealing in methane, is perforated and is starting to leak large amounts of methane into the atmosphere. Release of even a fraction of the methane stored in the shelf could trigger abrupt climate warming.

i wonder this.. remember hearing how alot of the earth was tropical back durring the Dino age.. and theory says big rock, BANG ice age.. well maybe the earth is just recovering from a big blow like that and the ice is not suppose to be here.. just maybe the earth is suppose to be mostly tropical and ice could be done away with . and its all melting

What they do not tell you is the lakes freeze every winter, thaw again, in different spots every summer (when it faces the sun for 20+ hours a day) All glaciers are either shrinking or growing, they are NEVER stable.

I prefer to live in a world where glaciers are retreating than advancing.

What changed since the Industrial revolution is helicopters that can get there and see it, not to mention coming out of the little ice age.

It's amazing that we see this thing happening since the industrial revolution and we didn't do a thing.
