  • there are great richie

  • I could grow my hair long but I could never grow my sideburns out like that.

  • Banjo is Larry McNeely (I think).

  • I grew up watching this show--I can't think of Glen without Jerry. What a wonderful video--thank you.

  • takes me back good song

  • Banjo player? Bela Fleck?

  • VERY COOL!

  • With the possible exception of Toots and the Maytals', this is the best version of "Take Me Home Country Roads" I've ever heard.

  • Beautiful. Beautiful. Two of the greatest pickers.....extreme authentic talent.

  • Anyone who has seriously plays guitar knows that Jerry Reed was an incredible picker!!!

  • most of the time you only saw jerry reed doing simple strumming.....however he could really play well. I saw one performance on youtube where Reed was playing some seriously complicated stuff.....I was shocked, I didn't know he could play that well. Same Deal with "Elvis Presley"........he could play guitar fairly well but he chose to use his guitar mostley as a prop

  • What year was this?

  • @Johnfarleymusic This show was on from 1969 to 1972....so somewhere in there :-)

  • jerry is gone but glen is still here with us

  • they are both home with the lord. jesus saves us all

  • @emmtampa Glen is not dead

  • wasn't he the evil coach in the waterboy?

  • @greenpilgrim50 Sure was!

  • Back when musicians had real talent. No auto-tune, no hiding behind studio engineers, playing your OWN instrument while you sang - at the same time even! I'm not even a big country fan but I could watch Jerry Reed all day.

  • Talent!

  • This is the most spectacular thing I've ever seen!

  • @JesusChristsuxCocks was that the official cause of death? lmao

  • I loved this show when it was originally broadcast, but I love it even more now.Who knew that real music would become an endangered species?

  • I love this!!!

  • Damn, I gotta grow me sum sideburns !

  • hey these two vets sound pretty good harmonizing...man this was TV..I mean real TV that entertained us week in and week out........music was great too.....ty.....alyagotado

  • Damn I feel old! Love the music still!

  • 3:15 Rip it off ! - Love it .

  • who is that banjo player? Looks like a young, hairy bela...

  • The banjo player is Larry McNeely. He took over for John Hartford after the Goodtime Hour's first season and played with Glen for several years.

  • straight up - Jerry was Bad-Ass. So many comments here ease that sick feeling in the pit of my stomach which today's "industry" constantly feeds. 4 anyone who hasn't, watch the stuff here at utube with Jerry & Chet Atkins. It's insane.

  • great to see new fans enjoying Jerry, the man was totally unique.

  • Wish I discovered him so much sooner. I discovered SRV in 1983. Should've listened to Jerry Reed then.

  • thanks for sharing~~~

love this~~~country roads take me home~~~

  • This is real music! HA HA, SEE. Washin up all the bushes! I love it

  • Compare these guys to a "star" of today like Justin Bieber. It's a joke what entertainment has become.

  • Remember working as a roadie hack for a local equipment rental company in Toronto back in 79 or 80, and we were setting up for Glen at Ontario Place. I had the privilege (unbeknownst to Mr. Campbell, no doubt) of "playing" his top of the line Ovation.

On stage he comes a few hours later, with his hand wrapped in bandages. Broken thumb? Sprained wrist? I can't recall....consummate professional and one hell of a player.

  • Jerry's personality is unequaled in live performances.....he was a guitar hero and inspiration.....

  • The banjo player certainly has fast hands. They are all very talented.

  • I hate that I am so late to the Jerry Reed greatness. RIP Jerry. You have a new fan and I'm glad to call you one of my favorites.

  • Okay....Gonna Cry....Beautiful!!!

  • RIP Jerry Reed Hubbard (March 20, 1937 September 1, 2008)

  • LOL, I love the comment that this was when country was more authentic...Glen Campbell is one of the guys that took country much more urban in a move that lasted from the late 70's into the mid eighties and was ended by Strait, Travis and company. I am not saying things were are the same, but it was not necessarily more authentic to old school country. This sound you hear is more of a holdover of the Chet Atkins "Nashville Sound".

  • This is what I miss. Ever since Nashville went teen vote.....Country music has rolled off an assembly line. God bless the imagination, dedication and creative"ness" of music back then that musicians like Jerry Reed and Glenn Campbell made. They poured their hearts and mind into creating and playing the music they did. I will always remember them for their music. And when I die my children will have the burden of dealing with the mountain of a collection of their music I left behind.

  • @matth3177 not just that, but they actually mastered their instruments, wrote most of their own songs and were entertainers as well. They would go live on these shows, crack some jokes, do some skits, and sit down and do one takes on their own songs.

  • If you look closely you can see the dark leather of his heels. I think he is just wearing very light colored boots.

  • Jerry Reed is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Why was Jerry barefooted?

  • Why not? Makes you wish more people would stop hitting their guitars and learn how to play them

  • @RatPakFan incase he needed to show how amazin he his by picking with his feet

  • WOW, nice! Jerry, you are missed!

  • jerry reed is the greatest musiscian ever . if you disagree ill fight you

  • i'll stand next to that

  • i am sorry but sad to say 'was' rip jerry

  • lmao.

  • @bluecheer17 you won't get any argument from me

  • Yeah, Jerry Reed was a very underrated guitarist. Very talented man!

  • Thank you for the post - and can't wait to share w/my man - he plays acoustic bluegrass. Watching Jerry play the intro w/out pick is impressive - and then switching back. And there are few who can just toss a guitar down and pick it back up w/out missing a beat.

We miss him already and know that he is playing his heart out and givin' the angels something to giggle to...

  • yeea with mom and dad workin kids are getting guided by the mind controled sick things i dont even have to mention

  • reminded me of being a kid.. and gathering around wih the family to watch... things are so differant now

  • In case nobody's said this...the banjo player is Larry McNeely.

  • Just saw this for the first time and that I was wondering. Actually searched down the comments to see if anyone else had said this.

  • That banjo player looks like Bela Fleck.

  • I first saw this video a week ago. I've been back for more since. I never realised Jerry Reed was so very talented. I think Glen is wrecked on booze, the way he tells Jerry to "Rip it Off!... I'll join in" between songs! lol. Very funny. Doesn't stop him playing and singing like the legend that he is though. God bless that man!

  • My God........ I havent seen this since I was a little kid.... . Thanks for posting it.

  • Thanks for posting this classic clip

  • You just can't get stuff this good on TV anymore...

  • Amen!!!

  • I don't even watch T.V. since I discovered youtube!

  • You, mate, are SO right.

  • @pegcage I agree with you. Just discovered You tube this year and I now listen to music, buy CD's and have been to see Neil Diamond and Bob Dylan recently in Glasgow. I am now a very young 63!!

  • wunnerful...educate me!

  • luve it

    gr8 job guys

    R.I.P Snowman

    xxxorange hawkxxx

  • To xSnoweyeexp below me: I wrongly said your comment was spam. I was going to reply to say that the 'musical community' is dead since the advent of the internet. Even now, millions of people are subjected to the 'popular musical searches' and other bollocks that subtracts from the truth of music :) Jerry Reed was a living musical revolution, and was ignored by the populace sadly :/ I sympathise more with modern children however, the first album my child will hear will be Dark Side of the Moon.

  • This is when TV was worth watching.

    Great video thx for sharing

  • two musical legends thanks to you tube we can watch Jerry over and over again.miss this guy.

  • lol ??? was it good ?=???

  • love that song well sung jerry

  • They were really good together.

  • bad ass !!! =)

  • COOL!!

  • does anyone know if he wrote this?

  • Country Roads was written by John Denver, Ko-Ko Joe was written by Jerry Reed.

  • Jerry Reed Hubbard (20 March 1937 1 September 2008), known professionally as Jerry Reed, was an American country music singer, country guitarist, session musician, songwriter, and actor who appeared in over a dozen films.

    RIP

  • before the drugs

  • These guys were the real deal. Bad-asses.

  • compare the talent there to when say.....

    Snoop dog jams with 50cents.....

what the fuck is the world coming to?

  • Ho Ho... I shouldn't laugh but it's so tragi-comically sad it's almost amusing. How right you are.

  • yes its really fucking sad.. the less talented (musicians) i wouldnt call rap music are the fuckinr richest and most appreciated and the reall stuff is gone. Well it motivates me to play even more

  • @xSnoweyexp

    Amen, brother!

  • @xSnoweyexp Don't worry x music is universal, no one owns it and there is an infinite supply.

  • Crappy pop music is just musical junk food. It detunes your ears, then something comes along with complexity...like Jazz and your ears can't understand it. Today's rock musicians can't comp 2-5-1 pattern.

Jerry could play with the best and he could play any style. Today there is plenty of great players... you got to get out and see them.

  • @shrineme i couldn't have said it better myself !

  • Outstanding.....

  • Just had to love Jerry! Rest in peace!

  • unfortunatly I came about Jerry and his Music in late July. His music was in my opinion the best I'd ever heared. when I saw the headline that he had passed I was in utter shock. Now I've realized that it happens and that hes gone to a better place. Hes up there now playin with Johhny and Waylon and I bet there havin a good old time.

  • As a child of the 70's you had to grow up loving black trans am's and this music. Rest in Peace Jerry, you are a true legend. God bless the Snowman!

  • rest in peace jerry!

  • This was great! You sure don't see entertainment like this anymore. Such pure talent, not like today. That cover Jerry and Glen did of John Denver's classic "Country Roads" was really well done. Jerry will definitely be missed. Truly a legend and so underrated as a song writer and entertainer!

  • I was born in 1977. I used to sit around in my diaper listening to Jerry Reed. NowI realize the true genius he was. Heaven must have needed a good guitar player. God Bless Jerry's Family

  • Rest In Peace Jerry !

    We all miss you ! ! !

  • Great Song!! Rest in Peace Jerry!! I'll miss you.....

  • jerry reed was a good songwriter and he will be missed. god bless you.

  • in answer to your observation.jerry reed and many that grew up in the south to become artists and guitar pickers learned their craft from black blues, jazz, country, folk

pickers.hank williams is a great example.

    and possibly jimmy rogers too.

many others had their own style.

  • They don't even know Cletus Snow exsist.Oh they don't well move over good buddy we gonna introduce ourselves to the boys.

  • a classic. Jerry we love you rip a genious of his generation, miss you already

  • RIP Jerry. YOu will be missed. :(

  • すごすぎます。

    I love country!!

  • Wow, back when people said hello, we didn't have to choose between gas or food, cherish the memories for they won't likely be replaced by new ones any time soon.....

  • IT'S ONLY GREAT SONGS, BUT I LIKE IT.

  • May we always remember the Talent that is Jerry Reed. I will.

  • great..

  • on that note. Whats the difference between a banjo and a trampoline? You take your shoes off to jump on the trampoline.

  • The primary difference between a fiddle and a violin is that nobody cares if you spill beer on a fiddle.

  • Cept west virginians do their cousins, no lie.

  • sorry for swearing but jerry reed is the shit

  • Nevermind. Did some research. Banjoist was Larry McNeely.

  • This is the America I remember. Back before bitches, hoes, and bling.

  • Well said...

  • I knew there were some folks out there feelin' the same way I do...thanks for pointing it out...

  • Yes, before people used rude usernames akin to "RAM IT UP YOUR SNOUT". Problems like domestic abuse, misogyny, homophobia, racism, poverty and the misuse of government power didn't exist. He's playing a banjo!

  • looooove it!!!!!!thank you

  • What was the banjo player's name? I can't recall.

  • Larry

  • That's Larry McNeely--a great West Coast Banjo player.

  • Can Jerry pick it or what? You're absolutely right emdogg.

  • I remember Glen in Albuquerque when we were kids... His Uncle Dick Bills. Glen played at the Hitching Post on Central avenue... the good old days.

  • Jerry Reed is a god!!

  • larry looks like be his "feeling " good lol

  • everytime i watch this it gets better everytime two legends

  • musicmikeal has the right idea on the difference between a fiddle and a violin. There is less arch in a fiddle bridge to make it easier to play "double stops" (two strings at a time). Many fiddle tune melodies are noted on one string while a second open string is sounded, creating a "drone" effect (owing to the Celtic origin of many fiddle tunes; think of a melody playing over droning notes as on the bagpipes). Also, to compete with the volume of other bluegrass instruments, fiddles are......

  • .....strung with steel strings. I believe the wound strings of a violin are gut.

  • does any one know who the banjo player is. he's good he could of doubled for the duelling banjo's in deliverence.

  • John Denver would be proud!

  • Jerry Reed is a total original...

  • that's right!

  • god bless you Jerry .... Please come to Spokane Washington

  • I miss really good cussin' music

  • We need more music shows on TV !! RIGHT !!

  • Jerry really pushed open the envelope for country. Superb picker and of course hollywood actor back in his hay days

  • aint no one better than jerry reed!! it dont get no better than that!

  • la cago.... ls cagoo

    muy bueno

  • that banjer player is called Larry McNealy (or McNeely) he recorded an album in late 70s early 80s w/ Jack Skinner and Geoff Levin called Confederation Bluegrass. Great pickin' on there, execept it was dedicated to L. Ron Hubbard, I'd have preferred it dedicated to Arthur Clarke, a much better Sci-Fi writer.

  • Ha ha! Best comment ever written!

  • it's amazing how many music artists had variety shows all the way into the late 70s!

    do you see that today??

  • JR is certainly one of the most versatile performers of our time, not to mention pickin to die for.

  • Americans have alot to be proud of, They in entertainemt alone have given my small walk in life some pretty impressive Idols in muisic, But its later on in life where you get to see the old masters Like Chet Atkins With Younger Artists Like Mark Knoffer where you can even across borders and ages, Music has to be the universal constant,

  • Well we Americans can't be proud of Knopfler....he's from Scotland.

  • x3, Be proud of any of these young artists who get the chance to play with the greats. Mark though didnt he turn country? He did a vid with Chet Lonely boy blues i thinks still on ytube.

  • Yeah I think so. Mark Knopfler is great but he seems like he has no musical direction. He bounces around with all different genres. Jerry Reed and Chet Atkins are definitely legends though, I definitely agree with you there.

  • Jerry reed is the best! Amos Moses is his best in my opinion.

  • Wow!

  • Denver never sued Reed or Campbell. All thre appeared on many specials together in the early 70's. All were considered country/pop. And the plane crash story is confused w/ the Waylon Jennings/Buddy Holly legend...which in fact is true.

  • According to Tim O'Brien, the real difference between a violin and a fiddle is that you can't spill beer on a violin.

  • John Denver sued them for using his song without permission. Jerry Reed said in 1976, "I hope he crashes his plane." How prophetic was that?

  • where did you read that he said that??? that is insane.

  • Saw it on the Internet, so it may or may not be true.

  • thats B.S

  • this song is good no matter who does it try the music of Gospelpkr

  • (Country Roads) Lovely song. Lovely performers. It was a mistake to use violins instead of fiddles. There's a bunch of players I could hear helping this song a lot more than the strings do.

  • Violins ARE fiddles. Different name, same instrument.

  • Ha ha! I love these silly arguments!

  • almost the same. "fiddles" sometimes a flat bridge whereas violins use a rounded bridge... there might be other diffferences
