  • I remember my brother buying their live album when I was a teenager. I put it on the turntable and was totally blown away. Couldn't stop playing it. Thanks for posting this.

  • I think the guitarist Pete Gage organised the bands on-stage performance based on American acts he'd seen. The baritone player's style is based on Johnny Marshall one of the members of the Blue Flames. Later known as Bud Beadle who played with Mick Eve's band Gonzalez.

  • My bombers, my Dexies, my high.

  • My friend brought the album back from England " Geno Washington and the Ram Jam Band Live " Christ it still today great dance album........know have it on a CD.

The Oringal Ram Jam Band was ONE GREAT, TIGHT ............group

  • She Had Knee's Like Birds Eye Pea's..

If you are a Geno fan you would know that quote, Geno could really get a place rocking. Geno' Geno' Geno........

The Purdy Boys Norwich were Geno's Greatest fans........Ream Geno Ream

  • This is pretty unbelievable !

    I'm Lionel Kingham's nephew,

Lionel Kingham being one of the sax players,

haha I never imagined they were this well known in the 60's =)

  • Fripp tells a funny story about the early Crimson being put on 2nd of the bill with Geno by accident and clearing the house with Schizoid Man

  • The most under estimated 60's group ever...

    Keep the faith *fist*

  • Fantastic, me and my mates used to listen to this stuff as mod's in East Calder 1984, Vespa and Lambretta scooters, fishtail parka's and fred perry's, memories that make me glad I'm alive. If you like this check out Major Lance.

  • Another of my Cooks Ferry Inn favourites - how they got the whole outfit onto that tiny stage, I'll never know but the whole place shook!

    Great days,

  • My gawd..to have footage of that "Footstomping.Funky,But Live"?...that would be SOMETHING.

    I mis the audience participation here....Oh whell...still....LEGEND!

    bytheway...that alto sax player is h e a v y.

  • It's amazing. . . Geno is an American (born in Indiana) but he is virtually unknown here in the states. Geno would be lucky to sell out a small club

  • i think he was drafted in the 60's and was posted to the uk

  • class

  • Remember seeing him singing this at the Dorothy Ballroom in Cambridge,he brought the place down, can still recall the atmosphere and total excitement of that evening over 40 years ago,a classic !.

  • Must have been around the same time I saw him in Belfast - Yes, he really did appear in Belfast. It was pre-troubles Belfast and we used to get lots of great artist and acts in all the Ballrooms around the Province - Dusty Springfield, Stones, Little Millie, Drifters, Engelbert and many others.

That all stopped for nearly 40 years and we just hibernated until it all went over.

It's a little bit better now.

    Geno had great stage presence.

    Will never forget it.

  • Were you all on 'blues' ?

  • Great video Zeus! Geno would pack them in at the Southport Floral Hall. A bottle of Bentox wine in Liverpool, then off to Southport on the train. A few pints of Newcastle Brown, watch Geno followed by a good fight and maybe a good shag on the beach.....oh those days...

  • plenty of blues, dex and bombers for me!

  • Spring Hill in Birmingham

  • Have great memories of Geno at the Roller rink in Spring Hill. Always an high energy performance.

  • One of the best vids i've seen this year!

  • Willie Mitchell.

  • Saw Geno at The Sage, Gateshead, Feb 28 2009. Was amazing! However he was over shadowed by the most amazing little and large sazaphone act, you've seen nothing until you see this. I have a new love of this music, as I was not around in the 60's!

  • Simply outstanding!!!

  • Brings back memories from 1967 and 1968. Not one of my favourites I have to admit but it was great seeing this footage as it reminded me of the times I saw him at various Mod venues.

  • Seen Geno,1968 at Liverpool uni' knock out.Seen him again Liverpool Philarmonic, 2009! He's still the man! best night ever

  • Teenage hero of mine.....Ram Jam Club Brixton was a good scene too.

  • Brilliant band.Saw then several times in the sixties with my mates. We idolised Geno. The dancing was really wild.

Once saw him in a Dundee Hotel totally pissed off with an ignorant audience.I had convinced my wife to see Geno because she was more of a Neil Young fan.Saw him not too long ago too playing great -but slightly sanitised blues.

A brilliant video."You dont know like i Know"

  • We all ended up in Ashford DC after 'bundles' in Margate....c'est la vie.

  • The 'Dogs Bollix' believe it....

  • Just wondering who was in the Ram Jam Band line up for this video

  • I was just wondering the same thing! I met a man called Jamie Airth in the 80s who played with Geno at some stage. Would love to get in touch with him. :)

  • Brilliant to see this vintage Geno! Thanks for posting!

  • Hi Zeus,

I saw Geno and what was billed as the RJB in Belfast about 1969 with an impressively powerful brass line up on the stage.

    Top act !

Yet here there are only two sax players shown in the 60's, and this is definitely not as good !

Any video with the full stage brass complement.

  • 1st saw Geno and RJB at the 'Mojo' club in Sheffield back in 66/67

The last time was at Grantham at a big soul night about 1969

What ever happen to that club owner from back then;;someone by the name of Pete Stringfellow

  • Geno concerts were the only ones I would swap my rocker gear for lol!

  • Anybody got any 'gear'?

  • used to watch Geno simply best band around.Agree the Mods loved him and was one TV200! Brilliant times Clacton Margate and Brighton and we won the World Cup. Best years ever bring back the 60s!!

    and its good too!!!!

  • top track

  • This is great, Thanks for posting.

  • saw geno live at dancin slipper notts 1966, tore nottm up on scooters after show. brill.

  • When people talk about the Who and the Small Faces as being the big mod bands of the 60's, they're talking garbage. THESE guys (along with Jimmy James) were the top mod bands of the 60's!

  • FACT

  • Saw Geno in Hitchen in 1964 and 65 and he performed at the free Bedford music festival around three years ago - still just as good and the best performer with the crowd I have ever seen.

    Peter

  • cool =)

  • They were a great act to see live. I had the humbling experience of playing in a support band for Geno & the Ram Jam Band at Mister McCoys in Middlesbrough in 1966. Along with Jimmy James & the Vagabonds, they were one of the hottest club bands around at the time.

  • Not to mention the Alan Bown set, Graham Bond etc. Our parents were clueless as to who we actually liked. Oh to be 16 or 17 again and heading out to see one of those acts again.

  • I still think "Water" by Geno was, along with Stay With Me Baby by Lorraine Ellsion the best record not to have been a hit.

  • thanks for your comment i think your so right regards

  • Great to see him on here. Being 'oop north we didn't see as much of him. The local dance hall once booked him on the say so of a group of us, normally they only booked chart acts, about 4,000 turned up from all over but he didn't! Saw Jimmy James and The Vagabonds a few times, video of him seems to be harder to come by. Greatdays back then. One set of people going to see chart acts, the rest of us all going to see acts like Geno, Jimmy James,Action, Creation, and any visiting soul acts.

  • Yes WATER is a great song. Geno's voice really cooks on that track. I just love the organ and Geno's style really suits it. The Ram Jam band were a great tight outfit. Should have been a hit. Great track to have in the car and driving through the rain. Great song to get those feet tapping as well.

  • saw them on 9th Feb08 at Chatham Kent, great show even better suit worn by Eddie Floyd!

  • One of the best live bands of the sixties.

  • Simply brilliant entertainment - Geno is wonderful - The band are competent and rich -

Thank you so much for sharing. Great video.

  • as it happens never heard of you and talking about surviving geno is still going strongy you keep surviving and get a life

  • Brilliant to see this video of Geno. Used to be one of his most devout followers in the 60's.

  • I went to their website based on your comments. As an enthusiast for 60s UK r&b/soul acts such as Geno, Zoot Money, Cliff Bennett, Jimmy James, C. Farlowe, G. Fame, etc. I am intrigued. Are they a touring band? Have they released any CDs? How come I haven't heard of Stuart Widdall or Harlem John's Reshuffle? Is there anything available by the latter? Be genuinely interested to know and the website doesn't tell me that much.

  • Great, great band. Love to see a clip of them performing "I gotta hold on to my love". Please anyone?

  • In the sixties Geno was king. Now a sad parody. Absolutely awful now.

  • RGordonR, your pathetic comments carry no weight around here.

  • HandClappinFootStompinFunkyBUttLIVE! Those were the days!

  • H.C.F.S.F.B.L. was .... Great album too.

  • Great memories of the best live UK soul band from the 60's. I remember going to TOFF's in Folkestone to see them in 1967. Thanks for posting this . Dave.

  • Great in the sixties. Still great now. A true entertainer.

  • Just brilliant footage.he is a awesome performer.Remember seing him all over the place in 60s Always brilliant night out a non stop roadshow.Mods ruled lol

  • man they look so cool!

  • Remember them vividly as one of the best live bands in the 60s. So much energy and non stop osul

  • Geno Washington & The Ram Jam Band were a great band and all round fantastic sound. I hope these clips stay up. Fantastic clip too.

  • he is still performing and was in banbury a couple of years ago
