So many ppl criticises Sly cause he cant act or sucks at it. But i personally have enjoyed most of hes movies cause they r fun, specially the Rocky series....
@vassephardi i think its more of a manager thing, like they say, "okay heres the deal, we're gonna try and get youre rating up just a little more. you're gonna sing, its what most actors do and now youre gonna do it." i think its more of a job kinda thing then them believing their mothers :)
I have this LP and I play for anyone who will listen. Sly has a fabulous voice. Amazing control and excellent pitch. Instead of backphrasing, he leads. Unusual for the time. The only actor I've heard that sings better is Robert Downey Junior. The movie was fabulous as well. Tom Waits was in it for crying out loud. How much better can you get that that?
@i8movies are you serious? have you ever seen bodybuilders who take steroids and growth hormones? They're HUGE, Stallone has crafted an image as a strong, tough guy, but let's face it... he was pretty skinny. The little musculature that he did have was all him, you don't need steroids to look the way he did.
they cut out tom wait's scenes. in fact he was quoted in 1981 saying how excited he was that he was in the film. he sat his wife down and when it came on he said, "look honey here i am! shit where'd i go?!"
because they had him sit at the piano for 3 weeks working on this stupid movie THEN THEY CUT HIM WHAT THE FUCK?!
And Stallone singing is sick (not in the good way, as in sickening)
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this clip!! Paul and I were like brothers growing up.Both only children and 1st cousins. I have a letter from Paul stating that after Lords of Flatbush Sly asked him, 'Hey meatball-you wanna be in my next movie?' He said sure and the rest was history.
Unfortunately Paul Mace died shortly afterwards, otherwise he likely would have found his way into future Stallone films like Frank MacCrae and Joe Spinnel did. Sly always took good care of his friends. Frankie the Thumper is classic beyond belief.
Stallone has always be slated by the critics..But what a lot of people do not realise is that he has one of the highest IQ's in the world..He is a very clever and talented man...I LOVE SYLVESTER STALLONE TO BITS...xxxx
Danilofrancavilla, If you love sly, your gonna like this movie. Like much of his work it illustrates one man in a struggle against the odds of life and still overcomes them. I personally enjoyed it alot. Sort of like Rocky with a little twist. The song is good too.
An underrated movie. It really surprised me! Surely not perfect, but well acted and very well done. Great forties atmosphere, brilliant use of slow motion, a realistic NYC and a script with some very good lines and interesting characters. Stallone should be proud of his debut as director. And be ashamed of bad stuff like Staying Alive and Rocky IV. I think that only Rocky Balboa and Rambo (both really great) are better than Paradise Alley.
I have it on DVD. At the time it came out the critics said "Rocky goes into wrestling", etc. Some think this was filmed before Rocky. In any event Sly cringes at the thought of this film as well as FIST but they're both not bad. They're better than most of what passes for entertainment today.
very good song. stallone may not be a singer, but he does it with passion and that means something. good memories of this song and wrestling film from my youth. rock on.
i want to know the subtitles to the song

What the hell posseses some actors to try to sing (Philip Michael Thomas, Don Johnson, Sylvester Stallone, Eddie Murphy, and some others)?????
I guess that when they were growing up their mothers said "Son, you can sing really well". And the doofus actually believed it.
