Why geeks? I think the biggest geeks are the iphone buyers because the buy this phones because they have inferiority complex. Maybe because they think that after buying it, they will be cool and than they can show off.
@klramon By geek he clearly means person who enjoys understanding and exploring computers and this phone allows for a lot of different things. You're dumb. You can also hack using this phone as it runs on a linux based operating system and wireless card supports all 3 modes.

It is true that they always show off with their brand new iphones which can do "everything" and that many of them just buy this phones because they will be accepted by the others as "stylish" or cool. Don't forget how many fanboys are amoung apple buyers it is simply ridiculous. Anyway I know all specs of this nokia and that it has linux and I like it. It is still a multimedia monster in contrast to others.
So what if there is a little learning curve? It's awesome fucking phone even in todays day and age. If you want a user friendly phone for small brained idiots, then get an iPhone! This mainstream idea of user friendly devices is holding back Android too!

well this is nothing else than a little bit smaller version of n800 or 810 but with GSM module, and faster processor with new maemo, WITCH ALL n800/810 WILL LOVE, AND I LOVE IT TO, iPhone sucks, becouse of it user - friendly interface for complete idiots with small brains hehe, if this mobile would be implemented with "iPhone-like" soft- it would be a comlete disaster. Sorry, the guy who is presenting this review has no clue about smartphones. He even doesn not know all the possibilities that maemo offers and how to use them. Most of the other reviews came to another conlcusion and even rated the n900 higher as iPhone 4 or Samsung Galaxy!
I'm a 15 year old guy with this phone, and I find it piss to use :L after breaking the lcd screen by accident (getting hit by a golf ball) but you are right, it isn't a mainstream phone, and it isn't hard to use just for a phone! I truly think you must be a total retard if you can't work this phone :L
I have N900 and Samsung galaxy. Maemo on N900 is far friendly than Android. In maemo, what you want to do is what you will find. Is is so easier to use. The layout and functions got common sense. This reviewer is just a straight hater. Usability, man,, you are blind.

Oh god, this review sucks. Even a blind dog can figure things out on n900. Everything has to be idiot-proof nowadays. Seems like people are afraid of thinking! You're complaining about icons not having labels? Really? How about using the big GET STARTED feature?

I was going through the exact same thing a few months ago when trying to decide between those two phones, in the end I got the N900 and I'm quite happy with it :)
I think Nokia 900 is a better phone. I did a comparision and find Nokia 900 way better, though i dont own one,but i intend to buy. X10 is more of a Phone, while N900 is a computer. Yes, More apps in SE X10, but more utility in N900. Am going to buy one in a day or two.
The KDE plasma is coming for the N900, so if you've already got a KDE desktop for your computer the whole experience will supposedly be more streamlined in the future. So therefore I'm getting a Nokia N800+ whenever it is avaiable.

This is a great phone none the less but it's aging. I personally just bought a milestone over the N900 because the milestone i got for $300 while if you buy this online it will be around 460-500 dollars. You'll be paying for old techno. So i'm just waiting for the Sucessor which i'm saving up on :)
@iBreakerz Nokia N8 it's more better. But Symbian is outdated. If you want you can wait for the N900's successor. which is the N9 cominout out the Q1 or Q2 of 2011.
i have an htc touch pro 2 and to be honest this looks to have the same sort of problems, which is it can be a bit fiddly to use and nothing is instantly accessable, which is a pain on the day to day. But to be fair it is a very good phone. And this looks to be the same.
@KrZvTbOy you should wait for the successor of the N900. If you love this you'll love the N9 because it'll come out with meego in Q1-Q2 of 2011. :) i'm sure waiting on it. i was a little skeptical when i got this phone but it quickly became my favorite phone. Im a bit of a techy so i got used to it quick. it runs great, never crashes, great interface, lots of space. its all out a great phone and i will enjoy it for a long time

@gzero26 wont go through the details but the sgs is a year newer, 1 ghz processor, sgx540 gpu so it has twice the graphics power, also capacitive screen and android os! of course keyboard is personal preference but i like using touch keyboard personally. n900 is last generation hardware, simply cannot compare to sgs...

@07liberian ok valid points. android os is very fragmented compared to maemo, which is only on one device? so you can see why android could be a little slower, no centralized development. on sgs, you can have a capacitive stylus, pinch to zoom, real multitouch, and did i mention superior hardware?? sgs is going to get better and better as time goes on, but n900 is a good device, lets agree on that ;p

@iBreakerz Nokia N8 it's more better. But Symbian is outdated. If you want you can wait for the N900's successor. which is the N9 cominout out the Q1 or Q2 of 2011.

i have an htc touch pro 2 and to be honest this looks to have the same sort of problems, which is it can be a bit fiddly to use and nothing is instantly accessable, which is a pain on the day to day. But to be fair it is a very good phone. And this looks to be the same.

@KrZvTbOy you should wait for the successor of the N900. If you love this you'll love the N9 because it'll come out with meego in Q1-Q2 of 2011. :) i'm sure waiting on it. Just bought a milestone cause i got it for 300 isntead of the N900 for 460-500 for old stuff. Gonna wait for the amazing N9 to come out :)

Lately...NOKIA has been the most annoying devices with the largest numbers of crashed devices from it...MADE IN CHINA.
Sony Ericsson MADE IN CHINA also but do not have such large numbers of crashed devices.
What about the N900 ... Still MADE IN CHINA...or it overcome the IDEA that i planted in my head????

i was a little skeptical when i got this phone but it quickly became my favorite phone. Im a bit of a techy so i got used to it quick. it runs great, never crashes, great interface, lots of space. its all out a great phone and i will enjoy it for a long time

could some one help me make a descision please! Currently i have the samsung vibrant (Galaxy S) and i love it is great but i am also looking at this phone as well i love the everything that the n900 has the big draw is the keyboard plus the emulators ESPECIALLY the N64 emulator. could you please list some pros and cons for both. thank you very much

@gzero26 wont go through the details but the sgs is a year newer, 1 ghz processor, sgx540 gpu so it has twice the graphics power, also capacitive screen and android os! of course keyboard is personal preference but i like using touch keyboard personally. n900 is last generation hardware, simply cannot compare to sgs...

I Tested My 800mhz N900 Against The Vibrant And Its Surprisingly A Little Bit Faster Than The Vibrant Because Android Is A Heavier OS Than Maemo, If I Overclock My N900 More To 1Ghz The Vibrant Would Be No Match For The N900.
Winter Is Coming Soon, One Of The Good Things About Resistive Is That You Can Use The Phone While Wearing Gloves. Try That With A Capacitive Screen LOL

@07liberian ok valid points. android os is very fragmented compared to maemo, which is only on one device? so you can see why android could be a little slower, no centralized development. on sgs, you can have a capacitive stylus, pinch to zoom, real multitouch, and did i mention superior hardware?? sgs is going to get better and better as time goes on, but n900 is a good device, lets agree on that ;p

it's a new OS based on Linux for mobile phones.
There are allready a few groups, who got Ubuntu working on the N900, but it's not perfect yet.
