such violent contrast between each section of the movement...violates the unity of the sonata form and makes me think that there are 3 "pieces" within this mvt. Plus the tranquillo at 2:52 is very hurried, not at all heartfelt.
It is a pity that most performances nowadays use this model for this mvt...just simply awful. For this reason, Rubinstein and Gilels cannot be touched here
This is absolutely Dinu Lipatti with Ackermann. For sure proof beyond the great musical differences between Czerny-Stefanska and Lipatti, note the audience-member's cough at about 3:58. Lipatti is a live recording, Czerny-Stefanska is not.
A recording of Chopin's First Piano Concerto, originally released under Lipatti's name, and said to have been a recording of a live performance in Switzerland in May 1948, proved not to be his contribution at all — in 1981, it emerged that the soloist on this recording was in fact a Polish pianist, Halina Czerny-Stefanska playing with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra under Vaclav Smetacek. However, later on, an authentic recording by Lipatti of the Chopin Concerto was found.

phemt666 hai ragione!
No words of mine can do justice to this performance, and this performer. Lipatti is without equal, it's as simple as that. This Chopin recording was (I think) from a live concert given with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra not long before his tragically early death.
Many thanks, marcbarbu, for taking the trouble of posting this.

I wish he'd recorded the second concerto also. That's my favorite. What a tragedy (for me).

The most beautiful piece ever written for piano played by the greatest pianist ever...only Chopin could have played this piece like this...
