This was one of my favorite shows. I grew up watching this show in Brazil and it was called "Joe o Fugitivo". I always wanted a German Sheppard due to the inspiration of this show (never got one...). Anyway it is great to go back in time. Does any Brazilians remember the show?
You know, it's a shame that Will Corey and Josh McCoy never got the chance to meet one another before the plug was pulled on this show.
If they had, they might have fallen in love, celebrated a gay marriage..and then they could have watched over Joe together! Just two men in love...raising a big German Shepard with lots of love!
But then again, this show aired during the mid-1970's...and middle-class America just wasn't ready for that sort of thing to be aired on TV at that time!
Someone with handle Frankenberry contacted me awhile back that he had dvd's of some episodes. I can't retrieve his messages anymore. Frankenberry, if you see this please contact me again. I'd love a dvd of this.
I am wondering if there are any other 40+ people like me who watched this show as kids and were moved my poor Joe's plight?
.
I try and talk to my nieces and nephews about how Saturday Morning Cartoons were back in the day......they just look at me like I am from another planet.
.
These poor kids....they are plugged into the Internet and their IPODS and IPHONES like they are a bunch of BORG!!!.
.
Sad.
.
I am SO glad I grew up in the 70s....I would not change that for ANYTHING!!!!
@ThoughtTraveler The 70's was a better time when things were simple and fun. I loved the first coin op video games and still play them today. Sure, they had some questionable fashion sense back then, but overall it was a time of change and wonder for most of us who are in or around our 40's today.
@ThoughtTraveler I remember. I wanted 2 take in a dog like that the Army used.
Joe, like all other dogs used during the Vietnam conflict were framed for crimes they didn't commit so the Army could justify putting them down. Some dogs used during the Conflict like their human counterparts found readjustment to civilian life difficult because of post-traumatic stress & were deemed dangerous so the Army felt the dogs had to be put down. Unfortunate Sgt. Corey was recalled & never found Joe.
"together they work their way across the country finding new friends and adventures wherever they go.." LOL! This sounds just so natural for the seventies; you would NEVER have that as a plot for a series today.
I'd like to see TV Land get this and some other shows from the 70's & 60's. This was 1 of my favorites. Family channel also use to show some good old westerns, etc. Haven't seen this anywhere.
I always loved this show too, very dramatic for a Sat morning kids show. It had a good objective, and would even make me sad at times. Great shows back in the 70s, and can never match the garbage on TV today. I wanna hug a German Shepherd!
It seems that the 1950s, 60s and 70s had better shows than the garbage of today. I rarely watch much TV these days unless it's a reality show (Even then there's garbage!)
OMG! What a flaskback! It was a classic and ten times better than Lassie and Rin Tin Tin! I named my cat Joe because we couldn't have a dog in our apartment building back then!
Yeah i guess the human hanging with him helped the story ,but since his owner was looking for him ,to try to clear his good name mind you, i think the new guy actually interfered once or twice, with good intentions of course! ha ha lol... and of course if the army guy he "ALLEGEDLY" attacked found him the show would've been over- what a catch22 for those os us who wanted him cleared!
I'm 39, and I remember this show as well. It was one of those frustrating programs though where the person in persuit never catches up with whoever, or whatever he is chasing.
i'm 39 and i remember this as a kid i loved it i always wanted a german sheperd when i was small so i could call it joe....ended up with a hamster..o'h well
I was just wondering-is the dog that is in this show related to the dog in Komissar Rex?(An austrian show, but the dog is owned & trained by an American & usually takes commands in English)I'm amazed to see all these shows from my childhood, especially this one.Joe reminds me a lot of Kommissar Rex.
I will be 44 in June - so how old was I when this was on? Remember the show clearly; just don't remember how old I was. Along with Shazam, Isis, Speed Buggy, Scooby Doo, Lidsville, (never settled for the newer ones), Land of the Lost, etc. etc. etc. I shoulda had a life as a kid, eh? In the end, nothing compared with Looney Toons!
I remember this quite well. Came on "Smiling Saturday Mornings On NBC" And I remember 'Johnny Whitaker'annoucing it in the closing credits of 'Sigmund The Seamonster': "Now stay tuned for 'Run Joe, Run".
Loved the show. The second season sucked azz though because Joe was with a hippy instead of traveling the country doing good deeds, while his master was looking for him.
I recall the first season was more Kung-Fu/incredible Hulk/Fugitive type of show. The second season I guess was more about traveling with a hippy.
Josh McCoy .. a boy and his corn-cob. (Because of the way he walked.)

Later still, they attempted to repackage the S1 episodes by adding to the S2 intro with something like :
"...but there was a time when all Joe could do was run, and hope he could evade his relentless pursuers..."

@unconventionalmeans I don't think anybody is ready for that to be aired even now. Not because of the gay theme, because it sounds really stupid.

The guy hunting Joe across the country must have been pretty hard up for $200.
The entire premise for Run Joe Run is suspiciously a lot like The A-Team...wanted for a crime they didn't commit.
