The Chariot and Norma jean are pretty much the most technical bands in this genre. they seem disorganized and out of touch

but they're actually incredibly tight and the parts they write are so much more musical in so many aspects compared to 99% of every other hardcore/noise/rock/whatever band out there.

just so you know, I'm a drummer of 9 years, undergoing a music diploma, i play everything from jazz, latin,, metal, funk and I have a noise band. Until you start a noise band and realize how hard it is to write music that is not only disjointed and chaotic, but still powerful in a musical sense you don't have any grounding to say that this style is not technical. Given, they're simple when it comes to chords and progressions, but they're phrases and concepts are what makes them tech. =]

but even then i'd disagree with you. my view of technicality in music stems from jazz and the use of interesting phrasing, different time signatures. Bands like Dillinger Escape Plan are the definition of technical in a contemporary aspect, the chariot use a variety of different styles, phrasing idea's, lyrical idea's and a mix of time signatures which would make them "math-core" by definition, a genre reserved for more technical bands. there's more to being technical then soloing and sweeping

What can you guarantee? That he's not a very technical bass player, and that's why he can move around like that, because his work load doesn't demand he pay attention to his playing-because it's drowned out by two distorted guitars anyway. I listened so hard the 2 times I saw them and could never quite make out his tone in the mix. He could not play at all and it wouldn't make a difference.
