  • what a nice ass

  • What is enlightenment? Is your quest for truth beginning to feel like running around in circles?psychic abilities and powers, it is all possible.THE-HIDDEN-SPIRITdotCOM it is time to wake up.

  • best speach ever

  • oh.my.GOD. these guys are fucking insane!!! TOOL!

  • THIS SONG IS AN ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE! seeing it played live (and the whole concert for that matter) was without doubt one of the single greatest experiences of my young life. HAIL "][" [{}] [{}] [[_ !!!!

  • Maynard is a king of Lyrics and bringing them to life, his voice may hold anger, but damn does it hold some truth. I wish one day I may sit with this man face to face, and understand what goes in that head of his, because if his music is only a taste then we are in for one of hell of a trip otherwise.

  • The four hidden dynasties which control a nation are political, educational, religious, and monetary. The plague of one worldism has not reached the religious phase yet but it's coming and people will grab it...hook, line, and sinker.

  • @flagwaver1969

So many of you idolize celebrities, technology, and financial gain. You'll worship anything. You'll be easy for them.

  • @stellarshore I have noticed that a lot of Tool fans are narrow-minded individuals with short tempers. I Blame wal-mart and burger king. But to be fair As long as you don't insult Tool they're actually pretty cool people... Although I Don't know why you'd wanna insult Tool in the first place, they're brilliant artists and are not responsible for the crap some of their fans say. I'm obviously a Tool fan but I'm not a fan-boy

  • At 8:17 you can hear someone in the crowd scream "Prying Open My Third Eye"

  • YAY. THINK FOR YOUR SELF!

  • @thewaterwillcome if you pursue that feeling once again, you may acheive nirvana. don't let everyday be the same. don't follow what others have told you to do with your life. This life is your experience, your perspective, your personal philosophy creates the meaning for your life. Follow it. Don't persist in delusion. for your own good, for the good of all of us

  • @4v3ng3d im not sure i could handle another one, it wasn't nirvana unless nirvana burns on a molecular level, like being a run away nuclear fuel rod. im not even sure how i could do it w/o accidentally dosing myself again! i also cant believe in anything now, not god, not merkaba, not anything. i am here so that the DNA molecule can replicate itself, the only reason i can even think is bc the DNA replicators have been getting more complex every generation for 3 billion years

  • The meaning of this song is to listen to it when you're high. It all makes sense

  • @softlyfeather The meaning of this song is revealed when listened to high.

  • sometimes i actually read the tool comments and fuck, reminds everytime to not admitting i think these guys are pretty good, typical tool fan = bullshitter with his head so far wegded up his fuckin ass, i tell you, id imagine maynard would get a good laugh reading you so called enlightened pricks, you sad sad fucks.

  • @stellarshore You're just being like the lot of them. All I see you doing is pointing fingers at who is stupid while you put them below you for no reason. It's also very ignorant if you to summarize such a large group of people in a ridiculous stereotype.

  • THINK FOR YOURSELF.....QUESTION AUTHORITY.....

  • Everybody should tattoo this beginning line.

This line becomes more vital as the world evolves.

    "Think for yourself"

  • @morphinlounge101 I was actually thinking about doing just that. They are very profound lines.

  • what's the really meaning of this song??? very deep!

  • @speraza53 whatever you need it to be, thats the beauty of Tool's music.

  • @speraza53 It took a very horrific unintended trip for me understand this song i had my "third eye" ripped apart, i didn't know what or who i was, i had no memory of my life i was stuck in a sorta loading zone, if i looked at any piece i got sucked into it then started have memories of other peoples, objects, and animals lives i finaly gave up and fully sunk into one and my memories began to flood back in but for a while i did not believe them, sometimes i still dnt. now this makes my heart race

  • @thewaterwillcome Ego Death. I had one. Let it change you forever, hold on to that mental state. Try to achieve it again.

  • @4v3ng3d it wasnt a pleasant, i came close to ending up in a mental hospital. i get flashbacks and panic attacks i can barely recall emotions from before it happened, my memories are like someone else's home movies. the way i think is drastically different on a fundamental level, i can fully dream while im awake. ive had dreams that were not dreams but communications between parts of my sub conscience, these parts can think, and communicate w/ eachother but they are unaware of my existence.

  • @thewaterwillcome It's not crazy. Your mind is a sixth sense, a third eye... like you didn't know this already though =P. My memories are the same way. My entire life i view as if i was watching television. You felt the truth, your mind started using philosophy. The mind can see past the dimensions we see, into other dimensions. we are inter-dimensional creatures if you allow yourself to. Merkaba. Panic Attacks... You didn't want to let go of the ego, but it had already let go of you.

  • they opened with this at Bill Grahm Civic Center too it was fucking awesome but did anybody else think his screams at the end were too high pitched

  • Is this supposed to be a new version of Third Eye from Aenema?

  • i saw em back in June. they opened up with this. i practically melted. i was in the very front too. the only thing that could top this. would be like. Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin.

  • TO THINK FOR YOURSELF YOU MUST QUESTION AUTHORITY......

  • This was insane live!! They opened up with it at Red Rocks

  • I loved their performance in OKC at the Ford Center. They opened with this. A yellow face came up on display and started speaking. Think for yourself....question authority. The whole place roared and you couldnt yourself scream, it was so loud. What a concert man. These guys are damn good.

  • It is Timothy Leary.

  • Yes, who is this at the beginning? I want to say Timothy Leary, but maybe not.

    Thanks.

  • No, that's bill hicks

  • @UnknownArtistBand It's Timothy Leary. Bill Hicks was on the version on Aenima

  • Can someone inform me on who is speaking at the beginning.

  • @xReinhartx

    Timothy Leary

  • Absolutely incredible. I cannot even express the feeling with words. The music travels through you. I appreciate what Tool does enormously. I have been a fan for quite some time now and I will continue to be until the end. They are absolutely the most talented band that I have ever or will ever listen to. I only wish I could do their music justice with words... Once again, only emotions can describe this.

  • Can someone help me, where were the live songs for this album recorded? What tour are they from?

  • i had to question my self if it was live or not.

  • is it just me, or does the face maynard describing seem to resemble that on shpongle's album cover? google it and youll see.

    AMAZING live by the way

  • i have no words to describe the multitude of feelings/journeys/emotions,this song blooms within me and im sure everyone else feels somewhat neutral!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this third eye is much better than the one on aenema

  • lol 1 person doesn't like this song

  • Tool should name their new album Vagina so i can justify stickin my dick in it

  • @usernam4444 There's always Puscifer V is for Vagina. I stuck my dick in that. It was kinda nice XD

  • @UnknownArtistBand: i was there too and ya its so well done

  • I saw that live, it was their starting song and it was amazing,

  • @UnknownArtistBand So did I, It was freakin amazing

  • @biggestTOOLfan yeah that was my first tool concert im 11

  • @UnknownArtistBand lol it was my first tool concert too and i'm 13!

  • Saw them in New Orleans last month.. The visuals were intense!

  • One idiot can't think for himself.

  • Comment removed

  • @SalSanMar3 Good song, but you may want to rethink that statement.

  • what is maynard saying from 4:14 to 4:40 ? this song was amazing live this year. started it out with the salival intro too which i like alot better than the original.

  • really 1 person dislikes..... must be a lady gaga fan

  • saw this ive drunk as fuck in kansas city!!!! amazeing preformance! i loved the leary opening too !

  • WHAT HAPPENED TO.TODAY A YOUNG MAN ON ACID...?

  • @INTERPOLFAN17 I recall a rare interview where he talks about playing the role in Tool in that specific headspace and how it can drive you insane... thats why he pulls away from it to do other things as a means of dispersing that kind of energy and exploring new areas.

  • PERFECT

  • i just saw tool a couple nights ago and they opened up with this song.. i went crazy

  • @G3n0cyde where in cedar park? i saw them tuesday and they played this song as well

  • @G3n0cyde Hell yeah man I saw them in OKC and this yellow face came on screen and timothy leary started speaking and the lights all went out. The whole place was roaring and i got chills baaad. It was fuckin SICK. I was so hoarse afterwords. It was awesome

  • @DarkTower13thGate The same visuals were on screen and projected upon the rocks at Red Rocks Colorado last week. Was fuckin insanE!!!

  • @DarkTower13thGate dude i also saw them in OKC! It was so epic

  • I'm not saying doing drugs is for everyone, and like many other things in this world, they can be abused. All I'm saying is you should do your research, not everything you've heard is true. Question Authority.

  • how do you join two audio tracks on itunes?

  • No drugs. Things like this come from a life of observing and vulnerability. The conditions must be right to cause a persons mind and thought patterns to undergo changes and see things differently. Maynard is one of them. Im sure he did drugs but its not the drugs the create music like this.

  • @booogie226 Listen to the Third Eye album version. it talks about acid. maynard loves his drugs. know the band before you judge their motives.

  • @booogie226 he stated before that the "goal is to spend the next 10 years trying to reach those places without drugs"

  • @booogie226 pain and sufering work very well. They strip the layers away at amazing speed.

  • Best song intro ever to grace the Earth.

  • play this with lost keys at the same time. kicks serious ass.

  • They really need to bring this song back for the 2010 tour.

  • OBEY THE VOICE!

    QUESTION AUTHORITY!

  • incredible energy my god this is one of my favourtie songs and it means alot to me, even if im not 100% for drugs yet, it still is incredibly badass and I applaud tool for making it!

  • Complete masterpiece.

  • watched these guys at ozz fest blew my mind how great live they are can't wait for the next tour

  • Born in Mass, went to holy cross in Worcester taught psychology at Harvard for years. Could you believe he broke out of prison with the Weather Underground and escaped to Algeria. interesting fellow. Him and Ken keasey; a former military member made the merry band of pranksters; a rag tag group of psycedelic users. Keasey was project MK ultra

  • @TheFragile89 I like Hunter, but he was dead wrong about Leary. Leary thought you could sell consciousness expansion to everyone, when it was only truly good for people like Maynard, Me, other geniuses, maybe even you. But the Taylor Swifts, and Mariah Careys of this world could not have known the true nature of reality. They are busy chasing dick and money.

  • nail on head- sex and money will always be the god of those bound by nervous stimulation- and the irony is we can't even rely on natural selection to be rid of that- those are the first people to reproduce and always will be... so what brings about the next step of our evolution if our society promotes growth of the corrupt? the death of the planet?

  • @durrr123 those people will eventually wipe themselves and each other out. i think that it take those people to lose their money, sexuality, and egos as a whole for the next step of our evolution to be brought about.

  • @durrr123 the earth will shake us off like fleas if we start causing to much harm to it, but the corrupt cannot be that stupid to intentionally do that, those that are corrupt might just be smart enough to realize that, that and corrupt people probably don't take life so seriously other than by trying to control everything. i know what i said made not much sense but tool is a good band.

  • @XxINCHAINSxX Take care not to sell yourself short here. Calling yourself a genius might have been too subtle a hint for us all that you idolize yourself. But that we've cleared that up, I'm sure you'll receive due praise.

But really though, you're right about Leary, thinking it would do the same for everyone. It won't. Most people, I think, probably can't handle it too well. I personally stay the hell away from drugs, because I know how destructive they can be, if you can't handle them.

  • @Lleanlleawrg Cars also, can be very destructive, be wary of them as well. Also, you should add knives, matches, gasoline, and anything else that when used improperly could be "destructive." Good luck.

“I am 100 percent in favor of the intelligent use of drugs, and 1,000 percent against the thoughtless use of them, whether caffeine or LSD. And drugs are not central to my life.” ~ Timothy Leary

  • @XxINCHAINSxX I am not saying that people shouldn't do as they want, I am just stating that for me, the risk of being irrepairably brainfucked for the rest of my life, outweighs the benefits I could possibly reap from its use. Sure almost everything can be considered to be dangerous, I never suggested anything to the contrary. It's a personal choice, and I chose to not try this stuff.

  • @Lleanlleawrg Cool. I would take the red pill. I guess some of us are destined to be sheep. Baaaa

  • @XxINCHAINSxX I'm a sheep because I don't drop acid. Okay. Have you stopped to think that all you're doing is following another flock? There are plenty of drug users/abusers on this planet, you're not original and you're not in any way deep.

  • @Lleanlleawrg Baaaa

  • @XxINCHAINSxX Because using the same old stepped on sheep cliche really underlines your individuality. That's never been done before.

  • Comment removed

  • @Lleanlleawrg drugs are a tool. they help you open your mind. i only mean psychedelics. other drugs = bad. but, you think differently, it just shows you life isnt what you thought it was. people have realised this without drugs, but most people don't.

  • @4v3ng3d I know they can be helpful, but I know plenty of people quite well, who have had their lives ruined by psychedelics. Take my next door neighbour for example, he started shrooming at the age of 14 and to my knowledge he stopped doing that several years ago, but he's still brushing tiny imaginary aliens off his face every 15 seconds. He walks around licking his palms and smacking his own face, and saying stuff like "soft delicious tv set" and so on, quite a sad sight.

  • @Lleanlleawrg Not magic mushrooms do this. The ones that are bad for your health... "However, don't confuse psilocybe mushrooms with Amanita Muscaria (fly agaric). There is no psilocybin nor psilocyn in Fly Agaric and we don't consider it a 'real' magic mushroom.

The (red with white dots) Amanita Muscaria can cause a very unpleasent experience and health problems. "

Regular magic mushrooms don't give people health problems. He should have done his research.

  • @4v3ng3d Actually, he used Psilocybe semilanceata. Not Fly Agaric. I know the difference.

  • @XxINCHAINSxX Dr. Leary had something to say about that... "Acid is not for every brain - only the healthy, happy, wholesome, handsome, hopeful, humorous, high-velocity should seek these experiences. This elitism is totally self-determined. Unless you are self-confident, self-directed, self-selected, please abstain."

  • @XxINCHAINSxX I'm busy chasing pussy and money

  • @XxINCHAINSxX anyone can experience consciousness expansion, and it is truly good for everyone. stop thinking your so special, if you actually had experienced this expansion you would not feel this way and you would not judge other people's lifestyle or music.

  • whos the think for yourself guy?

  • @geoff101001 timothy leay

  • Timothy Leary

  • your name made me laugh, great.

    peace dude.

  • spoken by Timothy Leary

  • Timothy Leary

  • @geoff101001 Timothy Leary. He was the man who started the ball rolling in the 60's psychedelic movement. GOOGLE HIM.

  • is it wrong to feel this tuned in... but still wonder where this movement is?

    Tim Leary .... ... the 60's Thomas S. hunter

    Free thoughts..

    1984 and F-451.....dystopia.. confuses me..

    how close are we?

this shit makes me loose my self on weed... never mind LSD..love to hear someones thoughts on these ideas..

Sorry to voice my question so randomly on a comment ...

    thanks~

  • I believe you mean Hunter S. Thompson?

  • at one, possibly all their shows on this tour, they played the bill hicks & tim leary intros for this song.

    pretty sweet!

    i luv these guyzzzz

  • On this version its not Bill Hicks, Its Timothy Leary.

  • tool summons a wizard @ 6:20

  • Is This timothy Leary speaking?

  • yes

  • bill hicks

  • Yes

  • when i'm hearing this i feel like in the pussy's world. Best i've heard.

  • ya.

  • Would I be wrong in assuming the silent part where you hear the bass drum playing, represents the Subconscious Self knocking on the Door of the Conscious Self?

    Just a random thought.

  • part1? rofl. I love how this is 14 minutes long and always feel like it is the perfect length.

  • Think for yourself, question authority. :D

  • best tool song! took some time, but all the more i am mesmerized by it.

how do get to the point to write such a song????........so good to hear you again.....

  • "I thought you were hiding." I love it! haha

I'm not worried now. We've found each other and have becomes the best of friends.

  • so far i only see smart people commenting on this page take that for what its worth, mostly smart, informed people with a soul.

  • Does anyone hear musical similarities between this song and "Rosetta Stoned"? Aside from the drug references in the lyrics, the slower sections seems to be similar. I can almost jump from one song to the other when listening to them in my head.

  • This song is a masterpiece. Wonder how long it took them to even create it.. but playing it live in a quality like they do here is mindblowing.

All respect to tool, greatest musicians ever.

  • they did this live....that in itself, is absolutely incredible. It is a musical piece at its very least.

An ochestra does a similar thing, but the emotion that is put into this, is on a whole other level.

  • Thanks Tool for striving to not only entertain, but to enlighten. What other band has opened so many minds?

  • dude other things have had much bigger effects and much more life impacting effects but tool is what started it all and opened the door for me.

  • i did not realize how fuckin epic this song is after 8 years of listening to it for some reason. its like something finally cracked in my head or un knotted itself. probably a tumor...

  • Think for yourself.

  • Bill Hicks was so awesome. I bet the band misses him a lot.

I love this song, especially the hidden track on the actual album. It's actually silent, for several minutes that long I think... thus if you're doing something else...BAM! Out comes the gaping lotus experience. Awesome!

  • wrong album and song. the song is opiate on opiate

  • great song... but where is the ending :'(

  • part 2 link is to the right. Youtube puts a 10 minute limit

  • i hope they make another song lke this, somewhat but for like 30 mintues, cuz this feels so short, and its their longest one, almost at least i think

  • not 100% sure about this: but, i think it's fair to say that wings for marie parts 1 and 2 (10000days (wings for marie pt.2)) can generally be considered two movements of the same piece of music, and so, though different tracks on the albums, are practically the same song. much like Lost Keys (blame Hoffman) and Rosetta Stoned also on 10000days album, and Parabol and Parabola on Lateralus, and Intermission and Jimmy on AEnima. Wings is 17mins24seconds in total. But it aint no 'Third eye'.

  • Longest single Tool track though, Disgustipated, last song on Undertow, 15min48secs. Such matters seem trivial though. Tool songs are parts of albums as a whole. The energy of "cold and ugly and jerk-off(live)" on Opiate, The dirty wetness of Undertow. Lateralus and 10000days seem to be exploring the whole "trancendental" thing mostly. But for me, Aenima, and in particular "Third eye" are true Magnum-Opii in the most spiritual sense, right up there with the great works of Mozart and Beethoven.

  • yeah they should, and there logest song is Disgustipated at a whooping 15 min! but its not half as good as this one, theres like ten minutes of nothing...

  • well the track is like 15 or 16 mins, but the actual SONG that they even played live is like 4 or 5 mins i think

  • @ToolKid21 I think 10,000 days is. If you count both the parts

  • 100% agree with KesORhaN, Tool is simply beyond art. When I listen to them it is beyond words what I feel, it runs through me, and i cant possibly describe it. If some1 asked me what does Tool sound like, I would simply say I cant possibly explain that, listen and you'll be enlightened.

  • right on the money

  • 2:20-4:00 jesus fuggin EPIC.

then 4:40, couldn't get any better.

  • man if you like this buy/dl the album the version is waaaay better ...

  • I disagree, overall, this, the live version from salival is better. The Timothy leary opening is better (im a bill hicks fan btw). the drumming is a bit more distinctive in the album version, particuarly the 4 bars b4 the "Child's rhyme..." whispery section, and the 10x "Prying open my third eye"s at the end of the album version do create a better sense of discord between the drums/guitar/ bass vocals. but to pull off a complex, layered song like Third Eye off live is fuckin amazing in itself.

  • I can't even explain how I feel when I listen to this pure art. I can't even call it a song because it's so much more than that. Words cannot describe.

  • Same to me, sometimes the art cannot be explained Kesorhan

  • Comment removed

  • this is a sample from the comedian Bill Hicks which tool sampled in this song. The song is a tribute to Bill Hicks!

  • Nah dude, thats the other version. This one is Timothy Leary :)

  • Yeah dude it's Timothy Leary in this one. Bill Hicks is at the start of the Album version one.

  • does this sound like right in two? When i first heard it, i got a right in two vibe, but it was probably just danny's drumming

  • My son was born 3 weeks ago. I named him Maynard. My wife has no idea whom I named him after. Hahaha

  • @6Ott7 you are awesome dude :D

  • there is only 1 absolute "Tool" you can use to pry open your third eye, LSD will put yourself in a state of open minded chaotic confused vulnerbility to inform yourself...tune in turn on drop out, abandon the familiar, break on thru with immediate expierence, become aware and understand

  • .................. u mean DMT

  • Shroud-ing all the ground around me Is this holy crow above me. Black as holes within a memory And blue as our new second sun. I stick my hand into his shadow To pull the pieces from the sand. Which I attempt to reassemble To see just who I might have been. I do not recognize the vessel, But the eyes seem so familiar. Like phosphorescent desert buttons Singing one familiar song...
  • favorite part

    probaly the best lyrics ever

  • dude you are fucking mental. tool rulez. you're probably into crap like hannah montanah or some shit like that. you don't know good music when you hear it.

  • The Concretes - You Can't Hurry Love is shit.

  • like your mom?

  • good one.
