It's a question of faith. No, God can't be scientifically proven, but I believe in my heart that there's a higher power out there, and that's good enough for me. Whether that power is a he, she, it or they I don't presume to know, but that doesn't stop me from believing.

With christians we know they all believe in the one god. where because an atheist does not believe or disbelieve they may have different perspectives on things. Basically an Atheist by definition is willing to take the stance that there is not and deny there is a man in the sky. An Agnostic by definition is someone who does not know and is unwilling to take the stance or commit to either side.

Do you believe in god? Is only a yes or no question. Unless you BELIEVE there is a God. You must answer no. THAT'S IT. The question "Is there a God?" would warrant the answer of I don't know. A theist would say Yes, but anyone else would say I don't know. Unless they make the claim that there IS NO GOD. But, Do you believe in God? is indeed a yes or no question. I'll tell you this too, Webster was an avid theist an actually hated atheists. Evil and wicked used to be next to the word atheist.

It's a question of faith. No, God can't be scientifically proven, but I believe in my heart that there's a higher power out there, and that's good enough for me. Whether that power is a he, she, it or they I don't presume to know, but that doesn't stop me from believing.
My personal belief is that some things I have faith in (there is a benevolent deity, there is something after death) and some things I just don't know. If I'm meant to know those things, then I will. If I'm not, then so be it.

Atheism and agnosticism are not mutually exclusive positions. Agnosticism deals with what you know, while atheism deals with what you believe. So for example, I'm agnostic about fairies, but what can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence, so I also don't believe in fairies. Therefore, I am an afaeriest.
I can't know there isn't no such thing as a deistic god, however I believe such a thing is made irrelevant and unlikely by Occam's razor. The Abrahamic religions are bs.

Agnostic simply means you do not know. Atheists usually take a hard stance that there is not a god, Theists take the opposite. Agnostics simply just do not know and are "undecided" for lack of a better word. I don't really see the problem with that.

People need to stop with the "this is a Crhristian nation". Even though I am a Christian this country wasn't founded on a one fundamental religious belief and early settlers came to this country to practice their religion freely. The term "happy Holidays" engulfs all holidays that form this time of year. Christmas, Hannukah(sp), and Kwanza. So instead of addressing each one and not knowing what one celebrates we say Happy Holidays.

Either you have faith in a thing or you don't. Saying I don't know if I have faith really means you've not asked yourself. Not having faith is not the same as having faith in the absense of a god. So agnostic is a schroedinger type evasive answer, as long as you don't check you can pretend both are true about yourself. Most theists and atheists are agnostic they just are willing to look inside to see if they believe in a god or not.

for me it's more of I feel it to be a bit ignorant to go all the way to one side. If you say I think God exist than its fine but you say "I know he does" it feels ignorant as your not open to the idea that he may not. same goes for atheism for anyone to say "I know for a fact he doesnt exist" feels a bit ignorant as they wont even humor the idea of a god and so i remain agnostic as i like to keep my options open but not because of a fear of one or the other. thats just me though

Because most agnostics don't adhere to one belief it would be hard to define them as one group. With christians we know they all believe in the one god. where because an atheist does not believe or disbelieve they may have different perspectives on things. One may believe there is a spiriuality to the world where the other may not but both would still be open to the idea. so i'd agree most agnostics don't know the meaning of the word because the word doesnt define what they believe

Only DistinctiveBlend has gotten this right. It is perfectly possible to be an agnostic theist. You have faith, but no certain knowledge of any supreme being. I would actually hazard a guess that there are more agnostic theists in the world than gnostic theists.

I'm atheist because there is no evidence of god.. Now that doesnt mean I wouldnt believe if there was evidence..
The word agnostism is hijacked by punch of wannabe atheist who see how stupid religion is but still want to keep the idea alive even thou they have no evidence. The fact is you would reject the whole idea if you hadnt born in a christian or muslim enviroment.
To make an experiment ask yourself what is the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of the word god?

Even thou I'm atheist even I think of the christian god when thinking about word god. That's because our culture is hijacked by christian who want to stuff their religion on to us.
what is even more annoying is that you call yourself angnostic but in reality you believe in god. Because every atheist is agnostic in some sense. That's right! Christians and other religious nuts are using this agnostic as a trick to keep smallminded people still in the grasp of religion.

Agnostic to me is open to possibilities, although I highly doubt any Judeo-Christian spin. Anyone who is 100% certain there is no God (whatever you define God to be) is just as bad as the Christian zealots.

I disagree with you on that. Not on the definition, you're completely right on that. But the idea that "God" doesn't exist isn't always a form of extremism. many atheists believe in a more nature form of spirituality. The idea of new energy and life force comes to mind. The idea of God is only one idea in many. You don't have to be a radical extremist to believe that there is a more natural form of spirituality than a being that is all-powerful existing in another plane. Just my thoughts on it.

I'm not a closet christian, nor do I really care for the longevity of Christianity. All I said was that Agnosticism is not a pussy choice, because it is an open belief structure (through the use of reason, hence the doubting Judeo-Christian spin).
I can tell by your composure and your reasoning that your nothing but a blind zealot that wants to force his agenda down everyone else's throat (like fundamentalist Christians).

Agnostism is a stupid word. It's not a belief system because if it would it would make every theist and atheist an agnostic. Because no one would be sure. That's why it's called Belief and not know it system.
Yes you want to make friends with everyone and be happy and gay. but I see trough that bullshit and I want it to be known by everyone that these so called agnostics are just "zealots" for christianity and theist around the world.

It's still trying to keep mids locked by the religious right. it's to make religion hip again for kids so they can be converted to christianity in older age.

Agnosticism is not a trend it is the most logical choice for me. I'm not a fence sitter, I think Christianity is rather pathetic, but I also don't like zealots like you that think you have all the answers and that Christianity is the only problem we have.
