The other reason you can tell it's fake is because they're playing on a clay court and when Roddick protested the call, he did not ask the umpire to come down and check the mark which they do all the time if a call is in question.

I remember I posted a comment on this video like 4 years ago saying that it was definitely real. I guess I thought it was real because there are real tennis commentators like Cliff Drysdale and it didn't sound scripted to me. Now, I'm pretty much 100% sure that it's fake. First of all who is that clown Roddick is playing with 80's looking groundstrokes? Second, you can't see much of the crowd at all. Third there are no advertisements on the walls of the tennis courts.

This is a commercial for POWERADE. The idea was that Andy plays a match in which he just received a bad line call. Upset with the call, he takes his frustration out on his next serve which is so hard that it sends the ball right into the ground of the clay court he's playing on.

Great commercial. If anyone remembers, there was a string of these ridiculous stunts that were Powerade commercials on TV. Anyone that thinks that this is real is extremely gullible. Andy Roddick serves at crazy speeds all the time so this would be something that would happen again and again. If the ball actually created a hole, then the match would be suspended until it was fixed. It's as real as the Roddick vs. Pong commercial.

Then it made a buzz, everybody talked about Roddick's greatest serve. And when the video became really famous, it was replaced by the one with the product (Powerade) at the end.

This is a very efficient marketing trick based on rumor: create a fake video, that looks real, and once it becomes famous you show the product at the end.

Plus the speed of the rally is like women's tennis in the 70s: pathetic. There are so many errors in this video I don't even know where to start. Plus the speed of the serve was at most 90 mph, probably less.
