instead of working with, .14x multiply the whole equation by 100 making x equal a whole number.

.14x+.06(5000-x)=396 becomes

.14x+300-.06x=396 then simplified even more it becomes

.08x=96 then simplified even more it becomes

.08x/.08 = 96/.08 or x = 1200
