la UCC (unidad de control de combustible) de este avion es una pieza de relojeria....uno de los mejores diseños de la historia....ni el propio fabricandte penso q tendria tanto exito...
@dsoutherngent1 And a tough little bird as well, durable and economical are rare traits with military aircraft. It's good to know that some countries still use these,it proves that a good design will always be appreciated.
@Bmuscutt A-7's a great aircraft to have in that dream hanger....just beware of people stepping in front of the air intake...can suck a man in from 20 feet
A4 Skyhawk fueron piloteados por HEROES DE GUERRA en 1982. Pilotos argentinos los que reflotaron un avion de la decada del 60. La task force britanica lo recuerda muyyyyy bien!!! ;)
@marrinauta Despite not agreeing with the invasion of the Falklands by Argentina, and despising Galtieri and what he stood for. No one can dispute the bravery of those argentinian pilots. I know many British who deeply respect the bravery of those men. Nowadays, the Skyhawk is being used both by the Argentinian Air Force and by our Navy (Brazilian Navy). Tough little airplane, the Skyhawk.
@CaptFOU Argentina no invadio jamas.
The hooks are for tie-down chains. When carrier-based planes are parked, they are chained to the deck for obvious reasons. Where was the airshow? Did you see the Blue Angels? They flew A-4's in the '70's and '80's (after the F-4's but just prior to the F-18's, which they still fly today).
@PSNgregiskool They had a catapult connector on the nose gear for taking off from carriers, and an arresting hook for landing on them (to catch the wire).
@19580822 No, I was at an airshow and they had a Skyhawk on display and there was no launch bar, just yellow hooks next to the gear. Apparently they were connected to the airframe, reinforced so they pulled the plane, not the hooks.
The Skyhawk can be seen at the Palm Springs Air Museum on Gene Autry Trail. One is parked outside in front of the Museum. It is a little thing with a nasty sting.
@fixdeluxe1 Simple, our government decided we didn't need a strike wing and also cancelled our F-16's on order. They said the cost of operating them didn't justify having them, a complete load of bullshit of course!
Worked on the A-4 "Mike" @ Cherry Point. Beautiful and agile plane,. with a tight turning radius that made it good in air-to-air combat. Also loaded the "silver buller" nukes...
Our airforce (RNZAF) used them till the early 2000's, our ones were updated with a "glass" cockpit. Pretty much like the f-16's. Which is what were supposed to have got after the skyhawk, unfortunatly our government decided to retire our skyhawks and scrapped our attack wing. Such a shame considering the proud history we had in world war 1&2. Our skyhawks are still sitting in hangers waiting for a buyer.
@humpingbird We no longer have a strike wing, we were due to have F-16C's replace our skyhawks but the government decided we didn't need a strike wing anymore and disbanded them. So our airforce now are Hercules (now being upgraded) orions (being upgraded) our Iriquois are due to be replaced starting this year with the NH-90.Our skyhawks are still in mothballs waiting on the americans allowing them to be sold to a private company, our aermachi trainers i think have been sold to the same company.
A-4 is one of the best planes to have ever entered service.

The Skyhawk is just one of those basic designs that just worked. Light, easy to fly, can drop whatever you need. Beautiful piece of machinery

Correction. The US Navy pre-1962 aircraft designation system was also under use of the US Marine Corps.
